Quoted from woody76:

Dodge city is great. Just put about a hour of play on mine. Just cant hit 2000 points on it. It's a tough one. I made my slings less sensitive and it helps with this cheap drains.

I have a Dodge City. It is a great looking game but those long slingshots at the bottom of the playfield like to pass the ball back and forth to each other until it inventively goes over top and down the drain. The gates are great for skill shots but again the slingshots make it hard to setup a shot. It’s a challenging game.

Quoted from o-din:

Saratoga was the first modern pinball machine with active bumpers. Or as Williams called them "BANG BANG". Or Thumper Bumpers.
[quoted image]

My Exhibit Supply “New Contact” was made in the same month/year as Williams Saratoga and features a Patent Pending pop bumper design they called “explosion kickers” that “give action and thrilling suspense as never before”.

Quoted from I_P_D_B:

I corrected our "Saratoga" listing to point out it's the first game with active bumpers that used a metal ring, not a spring.
I changed the date of "New Contact" from October to September 1948 per Billboard.
Spring compression bumpers appeared as early as 1938 in Stoner's "Super-Zeta" and "Zipper".

EM pinball postings have been down all over these past few months.

I agree with that, so is the EM market!

Quoted from 85vett:

Were are you all finding your EM machines? I'm not on Facebook and really don't want to join, but I have heard it was a decent source. I've been looking out for a couple EM's for a couple years now and have even put out some WTB adds. Really been wanting a nice "300" and Space Mission but have several others in my wishlist. The look is fun to a point but after multiple years and not running into a single one on my list has been pretty discouraging.

I have the same problem as you although I have seen 300 and Space Mission pop up somewhat frequently around here with a wide price range.

With all that is going on right now, the pin market seems to be really weird. Maybe it’s because EMs seem to be more popular with an older crowd and people are just being careful? I don’t know. I check 5 or 6 sources daily and when one does come up it goes quick quick quick.

I remain convinced that pinball shows are the best place to buy and sell. Easy transaction for the seller and you can have your pick of games to play before making a pick. Unfortunately they’re not happening right now either.

Have a line on a HUO Aztek. What’s a fair price? Needs minor repair owner is not technical, his father bought in 76 for $750 so the story goes. Going to fix maybe buy it but I’m a Gottlieb guy.
[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

I think $750 in today’s money would be a fair price.

I would do two things:

1. Trace that wire or look at the schematic to see where it's going. Look for a switch or coil that is stuck on or a short to ground somewhere in that circuit.

2. I would clean up both the mail and female connection to make sure that's not part of the problem.

Just picked up this Super-Flite project. It’s in decent original condition. Should clean up nice! I can already tell it’ll be a fast game. Thought it might be a “buy and try” game but it might be sticking around longer than originally thought.

Wow that looks like its in great shape. If it plays like it looks it should definitely be fast. I'll never sell mine.

Haven’t done a thing to it yet other than windex the glass! Was sitting in someone’s garage for what appears to be a long time. Needs a deep clean and some worn parts replaced. Looking forward to playing it when it’s 100%.

I was pleasantly surprised with how well the cabinet cleaned up on this Super-Flite. Probably one of the nicest originals that I have seen. But nothing prepared me for the surprise I found while cleaning out the cabinet! The tag was hiding under the bottom board.

IPDB says 98 sample games were made out of a total of 1901. Looks like I found #37!

It’s a long-standing tradition in our town that the parents throw an all night party for the graduating HS senior class. I helped organize and took three of my games out of their man cave habitat down to the gym. Those games got played nonstop all night! I they were humming for sure. Was a great way to help these kids finish out a tough senior year.

I just finished a major refresh on this Gottlieb Buccaneer playfield, sample 1077S. This game does not seem to get much love on this site, but every example I have seen has a lot of wear and tear.

This one is not perfect but it cleaned up pretty well. No, those are not LEDs! It’s amazing what clean bulbs, clean plastics, and a clean playfield will do.

Which has a more dramatic effect - a lineup of wedgeheads or multi-players?

Quoted from Ballypin:

Super rare 1971 Bally Round Up. 70 produced, never mass produced and probably only a dozen are known to exist. Design credit goes to Ted Zale but this *could* have been a Harry Williams design since it re-uses the Skill Spin Mystery Stop Bonus mechanism that Harry included in his Feb 1971 Bally Firecracker.
Restoration almost complete and Round Up will be in the Free Play area at Allentown 2022 on Friday May 6th only.

I played this game at Allentown and it was incredible. Very crisp and the bells were perfect. You could hear the game above all the others. Thanks for bringing it!

Here is a 1966 Midway Fun Ball that I picked up recently. It is appropriately named, as the main objective is trying to score as many runs, bonuses and extra balls as possible. I think this game could have had just about any theme, although baseball works fairly well. It appears that Midway used a similar layout for other games.

This is my first Midway game and it is different than pretty much any other game that I’ve worked on. Many of the game’s features are based on degrees of rotation of the motorized score reels. This puts a whole different “spin” on reading the schematics. Some of these less common manufactures don’t get the same respect as the Gottlieb or Williams, but I find that many times their engineering is more outside the box and often times more intuitive. I’ve worked out the bugs but am looking forward to cosmetically refreshing the game as a winter project.

I love a row a wedgeheads just as much as the next guy. But I feel that having a couple games like this in the lineup really rounds out a collection.

Quoted from jsf24:

Still miss that Stage Coach.

It’s a great game!

Quoted from Mopar:

And looks like you have the (moreless) add-a-ball version.
Years back I went through one that I picked up and it's a great player
with the 4 and 2 extra balls being part of the features. Couple years
later, I go through another, and it was different. I don't think
it had the 2 Added Balls, but for sure not the 4. I did some tricks so
it would add balls, but it wasn't the same as the 1st one which I still have.
Another machine I'm hoping to once again have set back up some day..

That is interesting. An original ad for the game indicates that regular, replay and extended play models were available. But this game seems to have both replay and extended play. The continually rotating bonus reel allows points, 2 ball, 4 ball, and specials which awards either 100pts or 1 credit. Extra balls can also be scored depending on which targets are hit and how they are lit. The game keeps track of how many times “STAR” is completed and will award a credit at a selected threshold. This feature carries over game to game. There are many combinations to win and extend the game which makes it a great player like you said. On top of it all, there is a magnet under the playfield for curve balls. The player can’t control the feature, but the operator can adjust the frequency of curve balls. It truly is a goofy game. It took me a while to figure out everything that was going on.

Does your game have the instruction card on the apron? Mine is missing and I think I’ll need to come up with something to explain the game to new players.

#13240 1 year ago
Quoted from Mopar:

I actually have a parts Fun Ball bottom cabinet which still has the instruction
card so I took a pic of it also.
The one with "Fun Park" in red is the one in my machine and I don't remember
doing so, but it looks as if I had that card made. I'm like 95% that I had, but
what the card states is exactly how the machine plays, and it actually does have
a Credit Reel, but the backglass window is blocked out. It's a good blocking as
if factory. I picked it up right here in New York, and being add-a-ball it probably
has been here all it's life.
My bg went bad, and years back I got lucky enough to pick up a spare head with
a nice bg. It has the Credit Reel window, but outside of that, everything else is
exactly the same.
[quoted image][quoted image]

That is really interesting! My game is closest to the top original card that you posted. Except that my game switches back and forth between 100 runs and a credit if a bonus target is hit and “Special” comes up on the continuously running score reel. Also it does not score 100 runs if STAR is completed. So not sure if mine is the “Regular” or “Replay” version. It makes sense that your other game is the “Extended Play” version with so many added balls.

I wouldn’t have expected so much variation in the games. At the very least I now have the correct looking format to come up with my own card. Thank you!!

Quoted from Sea_Wolf:

Just got this beauty home. Super clean bottom board, relays and steppers. It was in a family basement in Indianapolis for 40 years and it shows almost no playfield wear, just needs a good cleaning and new rubbers. Plastics are flat and in excellent shape. Backglass has a little flaking in the yellow areas but that’s about it.
Price was very reasonable for this title I think. $550.[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

That’s going to clean up nicely. Great find!
