Someone took really good care of it. I love the look of some of those United games. This one's perfect.

But the theme doesn't got with Paul Bunyan.

Lol I agree, I need an "Arizona" game to go with this "UTAH" pinball machine.

Nice! I love seeing these restorations. Can we see the other side of the repainted cabinet for comparison with "before" photo?

I agree! It was stored in a basement for many years in non working condition. The tech replaced a burned out flipper coil, score step up units stripped and cleaned because they were seized solid, lots of corroded relay contacts cleaned, many failed lamps replaced, missing small bell unit replaced with a new one and two damaged legs replaced.

What's interesting is this "UTAH" pinball machine has flippers but they don't look like flippers. Can you find them in the playfield photo?

#4457 4 years ago
Quoted from pinwiztom:

I was only going to count
Hit the Deck,
as I consider Joker Poker and Sindbad as being in the Solid State Era
Once Solid State hit
more GTB's CAB base coats changed to more colorful stencils

I've owned a Williams Triple Action and a Bally Odds and Evens that had non white base coats on them. I currently own a Williams Triple Strike that I've done a complete cab repaint on.

We can argue the merits of game play all day long, but those games just stood out due to the different color scheme. I'm not sure TA's artwork was all that great, but the artwork on Odds and Evens was beautiful, both the playfield and the cab, and the colors were great. It wasn't a great player but man, it was a great game to just stand and look at. And it had a backglass on it that was just perfect.

Like all of them, there's always a small twinge of regret at selling it, but you can't keep them all...

The flippers are the horizontal rings just above the out hole. Funny how they created their own configuration after the main manufacturers came out with the original 2" flipper design. Kind of like Gottlieb and Williams shared but United was not in the club.

Also:

and the woodrail era was all different basecoats colors of course.

Yes, I saw it was supposed to have flippers and wondered where they are. Here's a photo of them.

Yup. Those United "flippers in disguise". Pretty cool actually. Nice game!

Thanks! I wonder if the "disguise" was intentional on United's part?

I'd like to clean it up first then touch it up and "restore" it to look like new (after consulting with Pinsiders here for advice and the best methods of course) since it's already in good condition. I'm an artist and really good at matching colors.

Sing Along/Melody cabinet was base coat white but the head on those had a base coat of blue so dirt you are 1/2 correct!

Forgot to mention the game has a coin box. I believe most pinball machines don't.

Picked this one up yesterday off the NH Craigslist. Several known issues, not the least of which is the fractured back glass. Original intent was to gut it as the donor for my custom P-ROC Pinky and the Brain machine, but as I am cleaning it up, the design is growing on me

Why does that always seem to happen? LOL!

Nice, I saw that one was posted. I bit of a drive for me and the broken glass was the straw....suppose to be a real fun game.

Speaking of United's with the Disguised flips... check out this Serenade I restored a few years back... no disguising these flips... they stick out very well. This game was a bitch to restore, but I was surprised how fun the game is to play... and the flips were snappy enough to get that ball all the way up the playfield... not bad for a very early flip game.

Another shot of the Serenade with my wife's reproduction S/I cards - we donated the files to the guys from Australia for their United files; happy to do so.

Rat, you may just have to settle for a One Million BC for the time being.

#4478 4 years ago

It took this long to save up for one, and find a game + theme I enjoy. Its not going anywhere for a long long time. Maybe to a restorer if it ever gets too daunting for me, but then right back in the basement afterwards if that happens!

But if deciding between O-din's 1 Million BC and a just as good looking 4 Million BC, it'd be a tough choice.

I was teasing. Or was I? Actually I will own a 4 million bc at some point. Congratulations on your first game.

They look good together! I hope you're not playing darts in the same room with them?

BTW, I notice we've all been "downgraded" to "Pinside member"?

It should be a pinball rule that you're not allowed to own multiples of the same game. You should be forced to sell to those who are less fortunate...

I know a guy who used to have 5 (FIVE) MM's.... Nowadays I think he still got 3, all fully functional.... I just do not understand......

We used to play darts there before I ran out of places for more pinball machines in the garage. I am really enjoying machines from that era now. Wishing Well is the most recent to get up and running and is rapidly becoming one of my favorites to play.

Picked up Gay 90's on CL recently and gave it a cleanup, new rubber, some bulbs n wax. Supposedly I am the 2nd owner. Still a list of stuff to handle but it's playable and super fun. That game is now at the top of my want list. The only issue is, I'm out of room and have to move something, and I don't know what I'd move. I have an idea, but going to be a tough decision.

I'm not big on multi players but that is one great game.

Out of all your games, Top Card seems like the least fun to me. I would prefer to play all your other titles before that one. I've never player a Surfers or The Wiggler... Hard Bally titles to track down.

Thanks! When I started buying machines a few years back, I'm not sure there was one woodrail on my list. But that seems to be the direction I am now going. I have had quite a few 70s machines, but after a while it seems nobody wants to play them as long as there are short flipper games from the 60s and prior available.

I am really loving the latest one Wishing Well, but one of my friends says it tilts to easy. I hadn't noticed...
