Lookin' nice Rat!

Have you been playing one of them more than the others? I probably would just split my time as they're all good players.

We need more pictures of 1950s machines. Let's see those great woodrails!

I picked up a flipperless 47 United "Mexico" AMAZING pf, will clean up like new, no swirl or checking at all. I do need some help on it though. Anyone here have a 40s United I can talk to? The reset stack has no latch or coil, there is a coil mounted next to the stack going to nothing. I suspect a hack for avoiding tilt? Not sure but it won't stay powered up and the hold relay won't stay on. No schematics ;( PM me if you can help. Thanks!

Mike V. did most of the work. I just added a new backglass and drop targets, and waxed it. Right now it's my favorite pin!

Are you using LEDs behind the Sure Shot (Cool White Score reels) and Wild Life (hot spots behind Tarzan) Backglasses?

It will be an interesting comparison with Atlantis to see which one you like better.

Quoted from CactusJack:

Yeah, I'd go with 47's there. I was tempted to use LEDs with my new Shay backglass, but the 47's are pretty cool and they look much better.

#2976 5 years ago
Quoted from CactusJack:

Yes I am. Some like it, some don't - I'm not sure. In Wild Life they are warm whites and they show up way more spotty in pictures than they do to the eye. In Sure Shot I think the cool whites on the score reels and girls hair suit and they bring out the white better as a much more vibrant colour. There is a bit of visible flicker in them if you stare.

The one spot I really like leds, although not shown in the picture, is I have put frosted green behind the ball in play numbers on Wild Life and it looks really good - the numbers pop particularly on an old faded glass as mine is.

I did a full playfield swap on my Gold Strike the last couple of weeks. Found a fully populated GS playfield several years ago that had incurred a small fire on the bottom side and was taken out of service early in its life. I'd say the playfield it replaced was an 8 and this one is a 9.5. Turned out great.

Found my old photo album from my early collecting days. I've scanned in the pictures recently, and ran across this one. I think this might have been the only time I had at least one game from each of Bally, Williams, and Gottlieb in the lineup at the same time.

Three of a perfect pair

#2981 5 years ago

I'll get pics up in a few days, but here is a 1974(or 5) Gottlieb Soccer I picked up tonight (thanks vclover for helping out). We had to tie the door to keep it from hanging fully open as the pin is about 2 inches too wide for an elantra, but made it home safely, about 30 miles out. Can't wait to get it cleaned up, should play great once I replace a coil and flipper bat, clean the PF.

Acquired in the past year, my favorite new (old) toys.......both 1974, a Chicago Coin Dolphin & a Hi Flyer. Growing up in the late 70's, it great to hear the classic sounds again. Fun to play too, each has a free ball / same player shoots again feature

#2983 5 years ago

Dolphin looks like a lot of fun, with the captive ball feature.

So, when are you buying your next em??!

I'm kind of out of room and funds....BUT...with as much fun as I (and my friend who is not a pinhead) have been having with Sure Shot (it was the *only* pin we played this last weekend and he was here Saturday and Sunday) and how addicting it is, I have been having these crazy thoughts about selling one of my DMDs (MET?) and replacing it with 7 more EMs. Kind of crazy when you think about it like that. I do have more room in my garage.

I think I'd like my next EM to have AAB.

Metallica is a great game but 7 games versus one - well, if you got the space, 7 always better than 1

I think a game you would really like if you want an AAB , and a game to compliment Sure Shot is Lucky Hand ( 1977 ). Buckets of one more game addictiveness but fairly hard to find. Capt Card 1974 is another very good AAB.

here is a teaser peek of my latest ... finally !! !!

atlantis3.JPG

until my pbr goodies arrived i had no idea how the plastics had faded (and i thought they looked really pretty till i saw the new ones !!)

now who has a good tip for getting acorns nicely to seat on the posts above the plastics (mine came with the white rubber stoppers - a breeze to take on and off, but i like the acorns .. just having a heck of a time getting some new ones down on the posts!)

cheers, Ron

Are you using a yellow handle nut driver (5/16")? Drop it in and do a 1/4 turn and it should work as long as:
#1, the post screws are original Gottlieb and not some pre-threaded ones from Bally or Williams.
#2, there isn't a really deep groove already cut in the post screw.
#3, you didn't buy off the shelf acorn nuts that are designed for threaded screws instead of the original Gottlieb Speed or PAL nuts that cut their own thread.

If you are using original Speed Nuts, they may be too stripped out to grab well unless you fully seat them. If that is the case, I recommend replacing all with new.

What's up with the Bounty Hunter Pop Bumper caps?

Atlantis should have red 100 when lit caps

#2991 5 years ago

my atlantis caps were off as i was waiting on new clear mylars to replace the old grungy ones

the original caps are back on

as for the bounty hunter caps - they too are correct nos decals and caps - bh is my only non em, it needed a couple new caps as the ones i had had broken tabs

#2992 5 years ago
Quoted from manitouguy:

I have always struggled with the new ones that PBR sells and can't figure out the best approach to take. The new ones always struck me as being just a little too small in hole diameter to fit correctly on the posts and went on extremely hard - so much so that I was afraid I might over torque the post. For that reason I have never used new ones. I've had enough games come through here over the years that I have replaced the original PAL nuts with the rubber nuts on some of the games I've sold so I have some original stock for my keeper games.

That all said, using the 5/16 nut driver like CactusJack mentioned, I wonder if a PAL nut was originally intended to just be pushed straight down on the post for the first application. This would deform the inner race of the nut and possibly open it up so that when taking it off it would not be so tight. I've not tried this method but have wondered if it has any merit.

Mike O.

#2993 5 years ago

Buy a Palnut Removal Tool from PBR and hold the hex top of the post screw with the tool and then tighten the acorn nut with a 5/16" nut driver. Never had any problem installing new acorn nuts since I got the tool. It's also just as good for removing old acorn nuts when shopping a game.

http://www.pbresource.com/tools.html

Below quoted from PBR's site:

Palnut Removal Tool

Do you have a Gottlieb® pinball game with the Acorn Speed Nuts? Have you ever taken one off without the post getting unscrewed from the playfield? This tool is Gottlieb®'s answer , the right tool for the job! We have sold out of the original Gottlieb® Tool! It's been so popular, we have remade this tool!
Click on the thumbnail for the original Gottlieb® instructions!

This tool also works Great on those Nylon Posts Caps
(BLY-POSTCAP)
used on Williams and Bally games!

That's awesome! I've been wanting to get my hads on that one for awhile. I hope ya like it. And if ya wanna sell it ; ) let me know. I love me my reverse wedges. One of mine the (beat the clock) was painted and I used magic eraser and some alcohol and it came off and the original paint wasn't bad at all.
