Quoted from EM-PINMAN:

Super cool setup your friend has Mike.
Love the selection of EM pins including Black Knight.
Looks like it was a fun evening.
Ken

Thanks, Ken. It wasn't so much fun as frustrating. Getting the plastics into Black Knight was uneventful. But he had just finished shopping his Buckaroo which turned out great so I was playing a bunch of games on it. Looks great and plays even better - except I'm finding it hard to like Buckaroo. His game plays like a dream but it is hard as hell to hit the roto targets and win getting four in a row.

Quoted from Gerry:

They are all running. Still have a cab swap on Hurdy to do. Blue Chip is in amazing condition. Although she might have to go such SUCKS as I really like it. Cause I have an Ice Show coming an I need the room. My HLA is a blast to play and HG is an amazing game I love it. And the PF is like new and came out beautifully.

Well look at the bright side, at least you got some good pinball in tonight Mike.

I heard from a few people that Buckaroo can be frustrating so I'm pretty sure it will never end up in my collection. I'm a mediocre player at best and life itself can be frustrating enough.

Enjoy the rest of your night.

Finishing up the cab swap on Hurdy, cleaning and polishing every piece of metal, and screw by hand on both cabs..my back is killin me, but it will be worth it in the end..that should be up and running in the AM...

The other Hurdy will be getting its first power up tomarow as well..

Gotta do a light shop on the Blue chip buff/wax the PF and that one is good to go.. and will be listed for sale soon, as i gotta make room for the Ice Show !

but probably sunday if ya want later in the afternoon.. LMK

Collection is great Gerry...I admire your work....Wonder if I could play "em "too?

Sometimes on Buckaroo ya gotta let the ball drain between the flippers and sacrifice it to get the key '4' roto value, rather than trying to hit it. Really keeps you on your toes.

Getting the 4 was not that much of a challenge. On one game I got it on the drain. On others I was able to hit it. But being able to consistently hit other numbers was a real challenge. The openings at the roto numbers are too small and at the outlines are too big. I had a better chance of getting an A-B-C-D special than getting a four in a row replay.

I've owned a couple of decent Spin Outs, AKA the poor man's Buckaroo. From a play standpoint I like it better. The openings are fair. The shots through the upper side lanes flow better making the roto spins safer and easier. No way is it as pleasing to the eyes. Just seems more balanced.

#2262 5 years ago

I was recently playing a stellar condition Cowpoke, and man is that a hard game...

everything you said above is ture true true !

#2263 5 years ago

I think Cowpoke is a little more forgiving than Buckaroo. There is only one 4 on the Buckaroo roto, 2 on Cowpoke.

Man that game is truly sensational!
Where did Jeff get it?
Thanks for sharing pictures.

Hey Vic,

It's been a while but as I recall, he actually won it in on ebay. As to the prior history, I'm not sure. I do remember him telling a story that after the auction, the seller was offered an additional $1000 to sell to a third party but declined.

Those dang Gottlieb Rotos! The playfield is dimpled for two post positions, and the openings can be made a bit wider. It's not much, but helps some.

But it's not an easy game by any means.

Thanks, Dirt. I'll ask Kevin if he has the posts positioned for the largest opening possible on the roto. Every little bit helps.

I finally picked up my ACD and Big Daddy today.

Pics of the ACD for now. Kinda bummed about the condition of the bottom of the cabinet, but I should be able to fix that up secure. Check out the strange webbing on the backbox. Pics of Big Daddy to come

Nice pick up Dane. Will we be seeing another "Super Shopping" thread? I look forward to it.

The cabinet is fixable to make it solid. Litterally making some thin strips and gluing them to the portion that is left to hold the bottom panel in.

While the webbing on the head is more dense, that was par for the methods they used back then. Sometimes it was heavy and sometimes it was light.

Mike O.

#2269 5 years ago

looking forward to seeing your abra clean up Dane!

yes the back of cabs on those bust up pretty easy ... mine has some damage too as do most

interesting that the webbing is 'heavier' .. i had not seen that on some

great game - have fun with it!

Rat - that Slick Chick is really nice! I just picked up one of my own and have playfield envy. Did you do the playfield paint restoration yourself? Mine's got quite a bit of wear around the bumpers, but it is very restorable - just not something I can do myself very well. Wondering what yours was like before and how you got it to look the way it does now.

Allen

#2273 5 years ago

Thank you alb0711. The counter on my Slick Chick has 7000 plays. People find it hard to believe but I really think this sat in some old man operator's house covered and unplayed for 30-40 years. Maybe boilerman can shed some light as to where he got it from before he sold it to me. The cab is a repaint and the backglass is a repro. The playfield is the best original playfield I will ever come across on this title. There is little to no wear under the bumpers. This playfield is a solid 9.5. It gets the "WOW" factor everytime I walk into my game room and it has been at my house for almost 5 months now.

Pafasa, The ACD's all had crappy cardboard type chipped wood underneath including mine. If I was keeping mine then I would have a friend who is a woodworker craft a new bottom for mine.

Here is some pictures of my 1972 Chicago Coin "Casino".
This game is super fast and fun to play, actually it's a blast!
The game is now working 100% and is cosmetically finished except for having to repaint the Legs and Coin Door the original Charcoal Grey rather the the later Light Grey which will get done this Spring.
A lot of work put into this one but I think it paid off big time.
Cabinet 8.0 - Playfield 9.0 - Backglass 8.5.
Enjoy!
Ken

Wow! you really got that coin door to shine! You could shave with that thing!

Wow! you really got that coin door to shine! You could shave with that thing!

Thanks!

I would love to take credit for that Coin Door stashyboy (I will take credit for the Coin Bezel though) but I bought the machine with that part already done, along with the Lockdown bar.

The pictures I took really don't do the machine justice as it really looks great all the way around IMHO.

I repainted the entire Big Tree in the middle of the Playfield by hand as it had some Planking and gave it 2 coats of clear, touched up some of the Bonus numbers in the tree area, and all 3 Kickout holes got Mylar Circles so no further Ball wear will happen.

The middle Kickout hole was pretty chewed up form the Ball so I took some sand paper to it, a little stain, and about 5 Clearcoats to seal it. Very happy with the whole big Tree area turned out in general.

One could comb their hair while playing a game of Klondike.

Quoted from Rat_Tomago:

Well Dan, If you decided to comb your hair playing my game you may find yourself playing a very short game.

All 5 Pop Bumpers fully rebuilt except for original caps, along with both Slingshots, and Flippers rebuilt. Not as fast as DC Bumper action but still perky.

It's really the Slingshots by the Flippers that you have to worry about on mine as they act like they are DC.

Also a note that all my machines are set at a 5 degree incline.

That is one nice looking Klondike there. I have another playfield on the way for mine. The guy says it is really nice. I hope it's as nice as that one!

#2294 5 years ago

Ken, that looks awesome! Very nice work. I am on the hunt for another Klondike. I found one in KC but I have lost contact with the guy. Wish me luck.

If dan looks anything like the pics in his avatar, I doubt he could actually comb his hair, no matter how shiny the mirror/coin-door.

Sorry Ryan, I have documented a few but this was not one of them however I did take some before pictures of the other Klondike I am currently working on and will do a short restoration thread on that, however it will not be as nice as my keeper machine when it is done.

Thanks, Ken. I look forward to your restoration thread. Maybe you could announce it here when you get around to it. I'd be sure not to miss it then.

Hi Folks, here's my Bally Expressway and Gottlieb Solar City. The Expressway has been super reliable, I've only had to replace the flippers. The Solar City's recently been given a shop, with play field clean up and 2K clear coat, new rubbers and about 50 hour debugging dirty relays and motors. It still has a little freak out every now and then, but mostly plays well. I'll post some better photos once I've got 'em into the house. // Error: Image 204242 not found //

Expressway is in the set of the current Robin Williams TV show.
