Quoted from greenechidna:

Is that the one currently on Ebay?...looks clean and a reasonable price....me, I'm all out of $$$ but Pro Football is on the list

I just searched ebay au and didn't see it. All I saw was a couple flyers and a rubber ring kit.
If you have any interest at all just send wayner a pm - hover over his avatar and click on pm. I'm not even sure if he still has it for sale.

Looks great. Really like the gameplay of Central Park. It tests your patience when the ball is on either side of the flippers.

Quoted from Shapeshifter:

Wow, these big collectors make me feel sane

At what figure does collecting pins become hoarding?

100
200
300
400
500
???

Collecting in my opinion means having games set up and playing. Most everyone then has so many games in que waiting to be restored so lets estimate 25% of collection again in storage. I have been in a large metal building that held a personal collection that had 100 games set up. He wasn't hoarding - he had them all playing. Pretty good for that large of a collection.

Now, let's say someone had 500 pins and 100 we're set up and playing in his collection - do the other 400 qualify as hoarding? Does that mean those 400 pins are not available to others in the hobby because they're being hoarded? Some have dreams of placing their games in a museum so maybe in that case it's hoarding for later. Just curious as to what others think.

#3658 9 years ago
Quoted from wayner:

When I had 2 machines an American neighbour accused me of hoarding. He has 3 dogs so I suggested he was the one hoarding under his own criteria!!

Geesh wayne,

If you ever get up to 10 what would he think?

#3660 9 years ago

In a previous job I had to go into peoples homes to work.

I went into a home of an elderly couple who had collected so much stuff in boxes that they were stacked almost to the ceiling and there were little paths through the house to go from one room to another. I had to literally step over 2 ft. of boxes just to take my tools through the kitchen doorway. Repairman's nightmare.

That was hoarding!

Congrats Wayne! I wish I had an original playfield like yours.

Your neighbors must think you're in the pinball business as of late bringing home all these crated wonders!

Coming along nicely Ken!

#3733 9 years ago
Quoted from wayner:

Thks Dave. My garage faces the street so when I am working on a machine it is obvious to anyone walking past. There is a lady who cannot comprehend that I have more than one machine. So she invariably calls out "You still working on that machine!"

lol

Tell her you dropped a screw or a tool in the bottom of it somewhere a few months ago and you can't find it! Then find out who else she told when someone different asks you if you found it.

#3769 9 years ago
Quoted from Rat_Tomago:

Well this happened today. I sold my King of Diamonds and bought a Surf Side. I can always replace the KoD. Surf Side is just one of those titles you don't see pop up for sale. I also figured I needed to change it up.

_surfside.jpg (Click image to enlarge)

Looks nice Rat!

I don't see that title come up for sale very often.

#3771 9 years ago
Quoted from Rat_Tomago:

Out of curiosity Hoov.... How often do you see a Surf Side come up for sale. Then how many times have you seen a Surf Side with a perfect 10 non-faded backglass, 9 playfield and an 8 cab? Plastics are a 9+ as well.

I only remember seeing 2 or 3 in the last 5 years. The problem is I've never really looked hard for one but if one does come up for sale locally I'd grab it.

#3775 9 years ago
Quoted from jfh:

I would like to add an AAB - if you could pick between Flipper Parade and Majorettes, which would you pick and why?

I would say Majorettes from what everyone here has said about the game play being good. You will have a harder time finding it (low production) and pay more money for it though (you probably know there's a Majorettes on ebay). It's an easy title to re-sell because of the demand. You may want to start your own thread.

#3821 9 years ago

That Nags is sweet!

Way to go Ken! I put a lot of games on Sky Jump back in my youth.

Quoted from stashyboy:

Also for bonus points: Can you spot at least 12 differences between the two back glass?

1. Lucky Hand/Jacks Open
2. Balls to Play/Ball in Play
3. Tilt Light in different location
4. Previous Score to Beat/ Replay Window
5. 100,000 light in different spots
6. Girl on right has white pants in Lucky Hand - red in Jacks Open
7. Queen not holding cards in right hand
8. Spades have holes
9. Looks to be rolls of poker chips or cylinders/barrels
10. Coat pointed on JO
11. Coat has different pattern
12. Lucky Hand has wider neck - wider pattern on band at top of her shirt
13. Lucky Hand letters come all the way down to guy holding card below A
14. Score is different
15. Her head is straighter on Lucky Hand
16. Has a vertical band w/playing cards coming down below her neck band
17. No Game Over light on Lucky Hand
18. Guy in back left has yellow pants/guy in Jacks Open has blue pants

If he does, a pair of them with shipping is a pretty good deal (at least it was when I bought a pair of those glasses from Steve).

You're right. Buying 2 restored backglasses from Steve is cheaper because he can ship 2 in a box as opposed to one. Plus, the artwork is already done

Don't want to ask a "noob" question but did you restore that playfield or use a better one? If you restored it then maybe there's hope yet for my Paul Bunyan playfield. It's a lot of fun, I play it every day and it has a great backglass plus it plays like new because it was shopped.

Quoted from EM-PINMAN:

This just arrived today via STI. The Gottlieb Flying Carpet has landed!
Could use a new paint job (or not) as it has the usually hard fade that turns into something other than the original color, but it's not in bad condition. Cabinet is in great shape with the right side of the Head having some minor laminate damage. Original Backglass is a solid 9 with some pinholes, the usual wear from the pads disintegrating and the glass rubbing. Playfield is a 9.5 with no paint touch ups. Original Coin Door is in great shape, best I have had to date for this style. Even has the Lockdown Bar with the end caps in super shape. Simply beautiful all the way around.
Now I just have to repair the usual mechanics as it currently does not work and see if I like how it plays. Most likely it will get it in the Shopout Que this August as I am currently shopping out my Gottlieb Sky Jump, so this will be next.

Hard to find that title with a good backglass (and cabinet). Playfields seemed to hold up pretty well in that era. You did good!

I can vouch for his doors also. I bought two of them and was very happy with the quality and communication. The more doors you buy the cheaper each one is too.

#4822 8 years ago
Quoted from pins4life33:

Just bought this yesterday, pretty pumped... Playfield in solid shape, backglass is perfect, just needs some cleaning and will be good to go... Anyone know if they do stencils for this title would be nice to restore the cabinet to collectors shape...
IMG_0127.jpg

That cabinet paint on the face of the head looks nice. I just do touch-ups to the cabinet paint so you maintain in the patina. Sometimes new cabinet paint and a 40 year old playfield and backglass look out of place. JMHO - your game - it looks really nice!

#4880 8 years ago

Thanks for sharing that game.

That looks like the aab to Outer Space even though it's a 2P - same playfield

#4893 8 years ago
Quoted from Shapeshifter:

I am so excited about this game. Winning 26 replays in one go is an amazing buzz - hope I do it! Will be a while before I play it as so much to do and other games to work on. This could well be a true keeper. It wasn't cheap but compared to modern SS games it was way better value - for me anyway.
Sweet Add A Line - 1955.
P/f was better in real life than the photos - not often that happens Cabinet 100% original, no touch up's. Repro backglass. Looking for an original if anyone has - highly unlikely!
Will do a video to show the 26 replay feature and put on youtube in next 6 - 12 months.

Thanks Dave. It's going to need some cabinet love from you at some point and some minor work, but plays pretty good as-is. Maybe another winter project for you? You did such a fantastic job on my ACD!!
Believe it or not, next isn't even a pin (gasp!) I'm supposed to be picking up a Crusin' World driving arcade from a friend of mine. Drew really wants one.
Really loving the C37, ACD & Atlantis in the lineup. It's tough to pick which one to play! Maybe I can sneak a Volley in at some point.

Good point.

Not a sample but nice enough for me. That's in my collection along with that '63 ML you noticed. Actually got that not too far from you down in Belleville - yes, it came from Randy. He has another listed on ebay right now for $950.

Here's a few of my Jacks Open that I got last weekend. I've chased this game for several years, finally got this really nice example. Little to no wear on the playfield, just needs a cleanup and shop job. Needs new plastics which I've already made arrangements for. The backglass is one of the nicest original ones I've ever gotten, no flaking and little to no fading. Cab just has a few nicks, other than that it's in excellent condition. The drop targets have the usual lines from the ball hitting them but again, an easy fix. Just needs the steppers cleaned up and a few things fixed up and it will be ready for the lineup.

Congrats on the nice example - these are tough to find in the condition you have because they got played a lot on location.

Quoted from Matesamo:

While I do love my Sky Jump, the AAB version is even better for home play. Love the layout and shots.

Replays are fun in a "home play" environment too! Especially games like North Star, Kings and Queens, Atlantis, etc., where they're was no aab made.

They're good on location and in a "home play" environment. I have 12 GTB em replay's set up currently on free play. And, it's neat if people set their games to take coins too.

#7319 7 years ago
Quoted from Matesamo:

Sure, sure. With Sky Jump you work the whole game to get the roll overs lit to activate special mode which really gets the scoring going and another ball at the end would be HUGE. Last night my son finally got to that stage and the ball drained. He had enough for a replay but an extra ball there would have allowed him to keep his best game going a little longer.

Sky Jump is a good replay game. It wasn't designed to get the highest scores and extended game play from extra balls like Free Fall. You have 5 balls to get as many replays through specials and high scores that you can. Game time is quick and that's what I like. But, it's what you grew up with that determines what you like (for most).

Just completed a resto on my GTB 2001 which I acquired about 12 mths ago. Machine although working was in quite poor cosmetic condition & operation was at best sluggish.
Resto included cab repaint; strip, clean & overhaul pf, head & motor board-drive shafts of all steppers in particular were particularly gunked with hesitant movement. As is now customary dismantled score motor & service included lubrication of that hard to get to upper lubrication point. Anyone spot the cab repaint problem in pic 3?
Machine now plays great & a pleasure to dedicate it to ' the Factory'-the name of my gameroom.

..and finally got round to making up a t-bar tool (the T from a disused kitchen drainer & socket from our local recycling centre) for getting to those pesty pop ring & shaft nuts-works a treat!

Nice work Wayne! You'll enjoy 2001

Orange Dot Flipper Coils 5% more power, Yellow Dot 10% more, and the all new Red Dot with 50% more power for that extra zing that shoots the ball up the playfield, through the back of the cabinet, through the Gameroom wall, and outside into the yard for the dog to chase.

lol ^^^^

Quoted from o-din:

I've always found ways to maximize flipper efficiency with stock coils on all makes and models. It may be harder, but if the shot can be made with what's there, there's no reason in my mind to change it. And most have the longer levelers in the back. If a game gets too easy, it has to go.

I am excited that through a deal with a local business I do arcade machine repair for, that I am beginning my foray into public operation of pinball in the town of Ephrata, PA. (For those who do not know, my collection is in Union at my grandmother's house where I often stay for weeks at a time, but my "actual" home is out in PA. So no, I am not operating 3 hours away all the time!)

I think it's great you're doing this - I've always thought about doing it.

Just be very careful when you have machines available for the public to play. I'm not sure if you split in the profits at this "local business" but if you do here's a few things to consider:

Check with local, state, and federal authorities to see if zoning issues, taxes, fees, permits, certificates apply for coin operated devices available for the public to play.
Check into insurance coverage in case someone get's hurt playing one of your games and sues you.
Be prepared to respond to any service calls needed.

Maybe your local business has this covered - IDK

Here's a thread on this (there's many if you search) https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/getting-started-as-an-operator-questions#post-3528355

Good luck - sounds like fun!

Quoted from Otaku:

#26 has been picked up! I picked this game up (certainly a collector "favorite") from my friend David who owns the Morristown Game Vault (a spectacular giant retro arcade with 90+ arcade machines and 15~ pinball machines), which is inside of an old bank, hence the curtains! He is a good friend of mine and I spend many long nights there helping out and fixing machines so we worked out a great deal. This was waiting for me upstairs away from the action, planned to go on the floor as EM #2, but a few weeks ago we both agreed it would be better off in my private collection where it can be properly cared for and tuned up amongst its own kind. (But: hopefully one day it will join me in my pipe dream of a pinball museum while still receiving that proper care... just saying: public games are great for sure don't get me wrong and I'm not saying it wouldn't survive as they are built for that, he's just not an EM guy and that mix is not the best for it, so it will be better off with me! He had just got it in from sitting unloved in a basement somewhere and covered in stuff so this is certainly still a spike in this machine's future and its revival! Perhaps even much better... it will sure get the tuning, attention (both play, cosmetically, and mechanically) and love it deserves here!)
Welcome home, Mibs! I need to rearrange before I can bring it in and set it up, so I'll post more pictures later. So happy to add yet another pinball machine to the wedgehead "family" - and another already coming soon!

One of my favorites at the bowling alley when I was 12 yrs. old. That, Rack a Ball, and Kings and Queens I remember the most.

I finished my Gold Strike restoration last weekend. It was a big project. The previous owner stored the machine in a shed on wet ground, so the bottom rotted off, mice moved in, and lots of rusting happened. I had to give it a donor cabinet, a Wade Krause playfield, a Shay backglass, and a lot of love to make it nice again.

Great looking game room and collection Jason

Ok, let's guess on your row of pins we can see plus clues you gave us:

Gold Strike
Lucky Hand
Hit the Deck
Pin-Up
Mini Pool
King Pin
Joker Poker em
Fireball

Finally have my Flip-A-Card cleaned, rebuilt and glitch-free (thanks to some great tips from Pinsiders on repairing and adjusting the spin unit and spin relay which were really out-of-whack). Play field cleaned up pretty nice (for some reason I've rarely seen good play fields on FAC even compared to older Gottlieb titles).
Game had a nice back glass and cabinet was nice enough to not have to do much to it beyond a good cleaning. I know the back glass art is polarizing, but I love the colors (particularly the flashing green FAC title against the purple background) and as a former 70's college student, I do relate to the simple theme. Plus it's playing cards, probably my favorite of all the main Gottlieb game themes (cards, cowboys, "futuristic").

This is really a fantastic playing game. Love the asymmetrical playfield and variety of shots you need to do well. One of the best 'gotta play just one more' games I've owned.

Nice job. If you ever get tired of it lmk. That's one game I've been looking for.

Oh very nice! I have always been intrigued by that one. Sinbad is probably my favorite drop target game but being an EM guy I'd prefer EOT of the 3 variations.

Quoted from Vic_Camp:

I am scheduled to go look at an Eye of the Tiger tomorrow. I would be great to hear everyone's opinions about this games playability, looks, value, etc. Is this game sought after?

Bring it home and try it out Vic. It's a good player and adds a little diversity to your collection. The DC-powered pops and flippers from these late-era Gotliebs make this game play faster than regular em's. As far as price I don't know - not enough of them comes up for sale to establish a good price. You won't have any trouble selling if you decide to because of the low production run.

#8729 6 years ago

Looks good. Always liked pegging that vari-target shot off the left flipper - not easy to time. Gottlieb came out with those rubber post caps for the light shields but the op's we're being called out a lot on repair jobs when they came off - so they went back to the trusty metal acorn caps.

I'm looking for a Cleopatra myself. Congrats on finding one.

I'm looking to get into a few EM games. Never worked on one. I found an average Ships Ahoy needing rubbers and TLC. What do you think for a price? They are asking $1000, I'm thinking $500. Input?

$400 - $500

#8747 6 years ago
Quoted from Otaku:

Really? That seems low, I think I've seen most of them go for $600-$700 in only moderate shape. It really depends on condition though.

A $500 pin that needs a $200 shop job (labor value) and $100 in parts is now worth $800. And, that's not even considering a new back glass if needed/available. That guy is fishing with that price imo.

#8752 6 years ago

My price is for an average one as you had stated.

Sometimes guys will buy their 1st pin already shopped/working from someone in the hobby to get their feet wet - so they can enjoy it. You can get a little frustrated working on your 1st pin.

#8753 6 years ago
Quoted from Pinplayer1967:

No...... its not. You cant add labor to the value of a pinball game. A game with a value of $700 is still $700 even after someone spent time tinkering with it.

If I buy a pin for $500 and put 40 hrs. Into a shop job (average) I charge $700 for the pin if I sell. If you sell it to the next guy for $500 he doesn't have to spend 40 hrs on it. Time = money.

#8757 6 years ago
Quoted from NicoVolta:

Have to sell outside of Pinside & fixers like us to get anything for work done.

I make sure I buy low enough to justify the shop expense. If a game is worth $700 in the price guide that's for the price of a game that's in very good condition working. Deduct $200 for 40 hours of labor to bring it up to those standards = $500 project.

I will pay $200 more for a shopped game from a Pinsider than a project - and I have.

#8776 6 years ago
Quoted from Spg101:

Still looking. What price would you put on a fully functional MASQUERADE with no back glass? Can you even get back glass for it? Cabinet looks a little rough but playfield looks good from the pics.

I understand rectifiers and diodes wired onto DC coils, but I don't get why I'll see capacitors or resistors sporadically wired in some places. It seems to be only on later games as well. Anyone have any insight?

Late-era Gottlieb em's were using some new design functions of System 1 SS's in some ways - DC rectified components - flippers, pops, kickers, etc., for instance.

Ice Revue's flippers appear to be round top same as the SA which has double rubbers on the flippers unless I'm mistaken?

Yes, correct.

When I first started on the game I threw one rubber ring on took a pic later. Later on in the restoral, I placed a 2nd rubber ring on each flipper and did some other last minute things to the game (including adding 2 missing playfield posts w/rubber rings. I was in a hurry on that one.

Quoted from mbaumle:

What do they do exactly?

From Pinrepair.com:

The Score Reel EOS Switch.
Each score reel will have an end-of-stroke (EOS) switch for its coil. This normally closed switch will open as the coil plunger reaches its end of stroke when advancing the score reel.
The EOS switch's purpose in life is to break the power going to the score relay. If this switch never opens, a score relay can stay energized (stuck on). This can lock on the score reel coil on (energized) and any feature (such as a bell or chime) wired to the score relay. This EOS switch should be cleaned and adjusted properly. If a score reel EOS switch does not open, it will cause problems (particularly on Bally and Williams games), keeping the score relay (and score reel coil/chime coils) energized. However a broken, permanently open, or missing score reel EOS switch causes far less problems.

The score reel EOS switch keeps the score relay energized for a longer period of time (increasing the score relay's pulse length for the things it is controlling). A broken EOS switch can mean if a playfield target switch is activiated quickly, the pulse train may not be long enough to score the points (or features) for that target.

What about a missing or broken score reel EOS switch? In reality this is usually Ok, and very common. Often one of the blades on the EOS switch breaks off (from constant use). This leaves the circuit permanently open. Again, this is Ok in most cases. The only problem that can occur is if the EOS switch becomes permanently closed, not open! If there is a broken score reel EOS switch, just forget it until the game is all working (then go back and fix it). Having a broken normally closed EOS switch blade only makes the pulse slightly shorter for the score reel to move to the next position. The exception to this is if the EOS switch is a 3 blade make/break switch or a normally open switch. In this case it is performing a carry function and is critical.

Note that 10,000 point score reels usually do not have a score reel EOS switch. Since the 10k score reel is controlled by the carry-over "9" switch on the 1000 score reel, a 10k score reel does not need an EOS switch.

Sample games of Ice Review had yellow cabinets. The playfield bottom is different from the production game. It matches the playfield from Ice Show, the add-a-ball version of the game.
I had one years ago.

From IPDB under Ice Revue:

Sample games (test games) had cabinets painted in a yellow base color, with webbing, instead of the white color used in production games. The colored circles under the five round playfield bumpers were all red in production games, whereas the sample games had three yellow and two red. Also, sample games had six outlanes, while production games had only four. Instruction cards are different for the two versions, and at least one production game has been found having the Instruction card for a Sample game.

Here are some before and after picts, I was amazed on how much grime came off.

They look 100 times better after you clean them up and put new rings on them - you're lucky to have a Gottlieb "in the family". Sometimes a dab of 100% silicone caulk (some guys use tape) will keep those pop-bumper caps in place so the numbers look right.

Been on the lookout for a GTB 1965 Skyline for some time but they rarely pop up in Australia. But recently purchased a machine from US Arizona and picked it up last Friday at the port of Sydney.
[quoted image]
Machine fully operational 'off the pallet' but requires significant cosmetic restoration including cab repaint (lots of nasty touchups and structural issues) and pf renewal particularly around the lower flipper area. But I really like the game play on this title so anxious for the machine to look the part as well as play good.
[quoted image]
[quoted image]
[quoted image]
[quoted image]
On cab repaint I prefer to fabricate mdf stencils so as to replicate the original manufacturing process and also achieve the graphic bleed. On this title however it is a tricky stencil with so many unbroken lines. However this is made easier when the unbroken vertical and horizontal blue lines are examined. It is evident that on the blue lines this was originally a two stage process where the horizontals are done first and the verticals next as shown by the 'lip' and heavier blue at each line intersection.
[quoted image]
[quoted image]
I wonder how common this process was on unbroken lines using an identical colour?

Enjoy your Skyline Wayne! I liked moving the elevator up as I played. Retro artwork for sure.

Hey guys,

Been awhile since I've been on here because I've been so busy.

I've got a pinball friend of mine who's selling five games in his collection to make room for some newer games.

He's selling three now and two either before Thanksgiving or after Christmas (when I'm free).

Jack's Open ($1200) Plays good. All around good shape. One insert is wrong and will need to be sourced and replaced.

Volley ($1000) Plays good. All around good shape.

Buccaneer ($750) Plays good. Has some wear/graining on pf..

Selling later:

Strange World ($2200) (SOLD thru FB) plays fine but needs a shop job, good bg, some wear on pf, some fade in cab. paint..

Hit the Deck ($2900) Plays and nice.

These games are all playing and were shopped by a local Amusement Company tech. six or seven years ago - light play since. You can play them now and maybe change rubber rings later. He says he's firm on price but if you want to make an offer that's fine.

I'll be listing in the Marketplace with more pics.

CANADA DRY

Lucked out......

Estate sale in NJ. I told the estate co. owner to mention my offer to the game owner (with the estate) thinking at the end of the auction they may consider. He said it would start out higher than my offer which I expected. I said no thanks. Then, four days before the sale started he texts me and said seller would accept my offer (afraid coronavirus would shut the sale down). I'm surprised no one submitted an offer higher than mine for a rare game like this. - only 6 or 7 that I know of in US. Most all (2,885) were sent to France for their promotion/tournament.

Here's a Canada Dry post from rgp in 2009 that may explain the history of this one.

[email protected]
- show quoted text -
I had 1 (Canada Dry) sold it b4 I moved to va from nj there were cont loads of them
brought in to hillside nj in the late 70,s when nyc said it was ok to
have pins in bars

The game had a paper in it saying it was serviced in Oct, 1980 in New Jersey. Or, it never left the US which I doubt.

Really like the artwork and the silk screened backglass (glass) is in great shape! Playfield and cabinet have wear that had been touched up. It was definitely played on location. Plays somewhat but needs refurbished.

Just finished restoring this late 70's Gottlieb Rock Star. Some parts familiar to System One games include vinyl coated wire, coin mechanism changes and blue print schematic would indicate DC powered flippers, slingshot kickers and pop bumpers though this game was never wired that way. Sorry it is not for sale. Several people have asked me already. NOS Playfield swap, all the usual rebuild/recondition stuff, but the most challenging part was replacing 90% of the metal work in the game due to severe corrosion. Exhausted my supply of spare parts. Also upgraded the playfield rails to real solid oak as the cheap looking contact paper ones were showing their age. Game was stored on the Jersey Shore from what I understand.

Can anyone confirm for me (Pro or Con, but with very high certainty) that mid-1960's era Gottlieb EMs did *not* have what we'd consider formal Owner / Operator manuals ? Not referring to minimalist schematic diagrams here. I would have thought that such manuals went back even earlier than that. Like Slick Chick earlier, or even maybe to woodrails era ?
If not, as of WHEN did such manuals become fairly common ?

It makes me wonder that up until that time Gottlieb thought with factory parts catalogs it wasn't needed. But as they got into the 70's, there was either pressure from numerous operators who suggested they make the manuals, or maybe someone within the company convinced them it would be beneficial. I would think someone like Wayne Neyens would have been able to answer that question. Purely speculation here......
