Quoted from Garrett:

Agreed, any body that loves Gordon's work (I'm guilty) are attracted to these pins. Too bad the gameplay doesn't match the level of the artwork.

More important I think Gordon’s favorite work of mine is my favorite game strange world. And sorry for bombarding everyone with hopeful sale of blue note just looking for Gemini for awhile now hopeful still someone will want to trade two or three wedge-heads for one

Got one from my wishlist locally that was in someone's collection for 35 years. I missed the over the top buzzer since I got rid of Hokus Pokus and Captain Fantastic, and definitely cool to hear chimes in the garage again!

The pinball machine my friends and I played way back in 73-74. Gave up trying to figure out what the title was until I recognized it on EBay. It’s a solid example of the game and couldn’t me more pleased.

What’s the theme story going on with that Little Joe backglass and playfield?

#13506 11 months ago

The dudes are in trouble for gambling perhaps

#13507 11 months ago

Gambling and losing their money. That
guy puffing the pipe sack is full..

#13508 11 months ago

A roll of 4 is called “Little Joe” in Craps. In this game, it can award an extra ball.

What’s going on is the Groom is busted for gambling on his wedding day and the Bride is pissed and so are her parents.

#13509 11 months ago

Haha. Totally cool story. I like it. I don’t know anything about playing craps.

I've picked up 6 new pins in the last 3 weeks (4 EMs and 2 SS). This is my latest pickup and 1st barn find! Some before pics and then after cleaning 35 years worth of filth off of it.

Wow! Talk about finding a needle in a haystack almost literally, and if you really paid only $200, what a steal. You should start a separate thread for this one. It will be interesting to see if the sound board still works.

Only got a few games in last night. Had pulled the plastics, waxed it and put in warm white LEDs on the playfield.

It plays fast now but should be a real screamer once dialed in.

I did try

I hadn't seen one come up in quite a while. If the wife didn't blow out her knee earlier this week it wouldn't have happened. Gave me the day for the 8 hour round trip.

Sorry for the wifey but... be it fortune or fate(pinch, pinch). And it's great for a restoration as it's in pretty good shape overall. Way better playfield condition vs the Cleo or Aztec. The inserts are only slightly cupped as well. Play meter says 62K, very clean inside.

It ain't much, but it's honest work...

Two Kordek/Marche games nearly a decade apart, everything works and getting rebuilt/shopped along the way. Thoro-Bred is my first machine, brought home last summer.

Rebuilt the flippers on Triple Strike and quickly identified the weak/failing target faces. Tim Allen grunting commenced and repro's are in the mail

IMG_20230602_234602441 (resized).jpgIMG_20230602_234602441 (resized).jpgSpeaking of Kordek/Marche games, I picked up this beauty 2 weeks ago. Plays great, looks good, repo backglass on order. Absolutely blows my mind that the playfield is in as good of shape as it is for being 50 years old with 65,000+ plays. I couldn't help myself, I just had to repaint the horses. This one definitely is a "Winner"! (see what I did there)

So I have been some what dormant the last couple years working on games, but I finally decided it was time to finish off my Gottlieb Dodge City restore. Got my playfield back the other day and what a huge night and day difference.

Will populate it once the clear has time to harden.

I did most of the art work and sent it all off this this fellow for the reprint. https://fantasticpinball.com/

Makes me want to get my Dodge City out of the restoration que and get it rolling, looks very nice.

I'm assuming that is an overlay to apply to your playfield? Also it's amazing how much that peach color fades; very similar to King Of Diamonds.

Did you replace the orange inserts on the A-B-C-D-E roto target's? Mine are definitely very cloudy and I may have to replace them and was wondering a source if you replaced yours.

#13528 10 months ago

I'm almost finished with Triple action, a few minor touch ups to the playfield and cabinet yet to do. A fun game, plays fast when it's dialed in. I added a pop bumper ring light under the spinner, really liking that

I hope to have the Big deal ready for prime time by the end of summer.

No overlay, the artwork was digitally printed directly on the wood using what I assume is a similar process as what CPR now does.

All inserts are new, I believe the transparent orange I got from Marco, the whites, only place that had them was Pinball Resource and they had to be sanded to remove a swirl pattern and lettering.

Inserts installed, playfield sanded flat with a large drum sander to remove any divots and make it completely flat (I did have to fill some spots and repair the 10X holes using the wood filler as suggested by Vid in his PF restro thread). I also chamfer the holes around the top. Light clear coated applied to seal the wood grain. Image printed and final clear.

I just have to figure out an easy way to make the paper inserts for the roto wheel inserts as the original paper has yellowed quite a bit (I assume it was white). Plus figure out the correct weight of paper as well. lol

#13531 10 months ago

Got my hands on a cheap wedgehead. Gtb Pro Football. Not really liking it but the price was real cheap and was fully working. Turns out the match unit is shorting out the 10pts "line" so I removed it. Now the game actually plays fully.

1 more for the summer game room (garage). Back in storage in the fall.

It looks fun, although I've never shot a game on one...yet. I like what Kordek does with his slings and the unique flipper lay out has me curious. It just needs some love, I just need less projects.

Here’s a couple of videos of this great collection.

TL;DR: I purchased a game I believe is the oldest EM pinball from what was the first pinball manufacturer.

I managed to get what I consider I very special game today. Automatic Industries Whiffle-Zip (1932). It’s Serial number 105. I Would be pleasantly surprised if this isn’t the last one left in existence. It’s a little bit of a long story why it’s important, but it’s the start of pinball.
Arthur Paulin was an out of work carpenter during the Great Depression who made a game in December 1930 as a Christmas present for his daughter. After showing it to several people in town, a decision was made to convert it to a vending amusement machine and try and sell them.
Arthur and 3 associates filed a patent and formed a company eventually called Automatic Industries. They released the game and called it whiffle. This is generally accepted as the first pinball machine.
It was an overnight success and dozens of companies sprung up making whiffle clones. They couldn’t call them whiffles so the generic term of pin ball game started being used. Some of the companies like Gottlieb and Bally made improved designs that made the original Whiffle obsolete. Anyways, in September 1931, the original Whiffle patent filing was rejected and had to be resubmitted, which meant that all these companies could continue manufacturing without immediate threat of paying royalties or facing penalties.

By early 1932, whiffle sales were down due to the better games other manufacturers were making. Automatic Industries released their new game to put them back in competition. Whiffle-Zip. It’s the first electromechanical game by over a year and is totally different than what you would think of as a pinball. (keep in mind pinball was still less than a year old at the time) it was too expensive and Automatic Industries went bankrupt. Just a few months after the bankruptcy their patent on pinball finally got approved.

You don't appreciate how heavy these are until you hail them up 2 flights of stairs.
Had to move them up to the "pink" room to make room in my office for Space Mission and Aladdin's Castle, and the Genie and Lucky 7 project pins...

Gulfstream & Super Star... two pins I wasted hundreds of dollars | hours on in my youth honing pinball skills and escaping the stress of competitive swimming. My first purchase was the Gulf in 1986, and acquired a Super Star in the late 90s. Still have the Gulfstream and sold Super Star several years ago... great games!

I nabbed one of these a while back. It was a bit dirty, and the backglass is shot, but I'm happy with it considering what I paid for it. I've played others before, and I'm looking forward making it nice again. I managed to get a repro glass for it, so it should turn out pretty good.

Cool, looks like I'll be needing some caps for a 1964 Bally lockdown bar (anybody care to guess the game?). Was he making new ones or replanting existing? Anybody know if the Bally and Williams caps are interchangeable?
