Does one the the BLY Star Treks have the proto BG and plastics?

Yes, and CPR playfield.

Nice but they aren’t EMs.

I see you have the same "Seevend" sticker under you coindoor and German coin inserts in it that my Aces & Kings has. Do you know if your game was a re-import from Germany?

They practically are in terms of gameplay and capabilities. Heck I considered converting one to EM with chimes just for the entertainment value.

What a wasted opportunity by Bally.

They had a great theme to work with and made a solid state EM.

Xenon comes out the next year with the same hardware aside from sound and just crushes it.

Trek could have been so much more.

Quoted from gdonovan:

In 1979 I enjoyed playing it, never did I think Bally should have done better with the theme considering the tech in other Pinballs that year.

It's easy to say 40 years later they didn't do the theme justice.

Maybe if Williams got on the theme bandwagon at the time they could have produced a better product.

I have a Bally Night Rider EM. With the exact same playfield the SS version could identify as an EM no?

I do try to keep that in mind but I am comparing 1979 to 1980.

In 1979 Gorgar, Meteor and Flash all had better sound, voice and features in some cases than Star Trek. Bally did leap ahead the next two years to be sure and I might be looking at things through the lens of history. While Star Trek was a show that ran only 3 seasons there was a huge resurgence in the 70's and of course leading to Star Trek the Movie.

It was a hot property.

All three 1979 titles had tech that could have been incorporated into a ST easy.

But we got rudimentary sound, no voice, no magnet, no individual resetting drop targets. Hell, we didn't even get chaser lamps in the backglass or a spinner.

Maybe in the Bally design cycle Star Trek was just unlucky and missed out on features Bally was on the cusp of releasing.

Yes, in fact this is "JK" (the cabinet has not been repainted)

#12664 9 months ago

And backwards to boot!
I guess that is what being a JoKer is all about.

That would belong in the Transpinball thread

The original legs had a bit of rust, but about three hours of elbow grease and polish, and they look great. Has a complete paper packet as well. I've never seen this score card before....ever! Decent original cabinet too.

That looks great Raff. Duotron holds a special place in my heart as that was the machine that got me hooked on pins. The local kids and myself played one almost to death back in 1978 as it was the only pin in town in the local deli. We were always trying to light that damn special!

Quoted from bob_e:

Note: Bally EM playfields and SS playfields are slightly different.
------ The key is the pop bumper cutouts.
------ Once I had to do a playfield transfer of Bally's EK's EM pinball.
------ Everything was fine tell I got to the Thumper Bumpers...
------ had to use SS hardware to put the EM Thumper Bumpers together.

This game would have to be the hardest game I have ever played to get those special lit up.

Haha, tell me about it, but we didn't know any better back in '78 as it was the only pin around to play.
I remember the deli owner used to put a carton of coke and a little chalk board on top of the back box and the kid with the highest score at the end of each month won it. I never once got on that board, lol

Such a fun game - restored one earlier this year. Those arrow inserts can be a pain to get to sit flush

#12676 9 months ago

all the inserts are cupped. I'll need to clean it up and see how it plays before deciding to level them.

#12677 9 months ago

Is there a thread somewhere or a place to reference the best way to level cupped inserts?

Yes, search for “Vid’s Guide to Playfield Restoration“.

Finally got around to cleaning up Williams Wild Card. A friend knew I was looking for one a few years ago and found this one for me. The last Williams single player game.

Very nice! I assume the OC cab colors are stock, as they look exactly correct... if so it's amazing that the purple didn't fade, even though the yellow has a bit.

I still say Old Chicago is one of the most beautiful games ever built. Yours is a great example.

#12684 8 months ago

My old Chicago I love , great game and my only EM
Just giving me an issue at the moment

Anyone can tell me where to start fixing this
It’s getting very very hot on one pin ( left bottom)
To the point game shuts down

I would do two things:

1. Trace that wire or look at the schematic to see where it's going. Look for a switch or coil that is stuck on or a short to ground somewhere in that circuit.

2. I would clean up both the mail and female connection to make sure that's not part of the problem.

#12686 8 months ago

might not be anything. I have the same game and that pin burned out on mine too. the connector just got a little corroded and the current going through it made the resistance worse. can't remember if that wire carries all the power or just the for the lights but after I repaired mine it worked fineand that was 6 years ago

#12687 8 months ago

10's relay is locked on, pf switches look to be open though.

for the 10 relay did you check the switches on the rubbers? or pop bumper?

yup

Bally's weakest link. The GI circuit needs to be redesigned...
Problem fixed on later models... [eg Bally Freedom ].
How to fix:
1) Add from transformer a second wire....WHT-GRN
1a) Add second wire from fuse block WHT-GRN
1b) Add Molex connector heavy duty. .093 to added wire.
2) Check fuses
2a) Repair fuse holders. if need be.
3) If Backbox has an open pin to one of the connectors, use it to add extra
--- lamp GI busing BRN wire.
4) Main objective is to remove current bottle necking from circuit.
EXAMPLE:
Extra brown GI wire inserted to backbox wire busing.
IMG_0001[1] (resized).JPG
Extra open pin, on connector, with extra brown GI wire inserted into the circuit.
IMG_0002[1] (resized).JPG
Extra brown wire fitted to female side of backbox connector.

Well I’m usually the guy who’s measures everything out. But the ceiling, floor and lights I wanted them to come out however. Was not going to overthinking it. I’m happy with it and everyone who comes down to play thinks it looks cool. Thanks..

Thanks Mike! I’m going to do a little write up on it with pictures and everything. It came from Argentina. Year-long process.

Seems like most of the TKOs came back from Argentina
