Here is my El Dorado. Rebuilt the cabinet and head and repainted, had a heck of a time with the spatter but happy with the final result. Had help getting the EM working once it was put back together other than a few tweaks, the game plays great. Wife’s favorite so it gets to be in the living room! It was a fun first restore.

It’s not much, but it’s a new start. I posted a few weeks ago about how I’m losing my space where I keep and work on games.

A nice lady in my neighborhood offered me her one-car garage which she does not use for $25 a month. It has power and lighting and although it will be hotter than hell in the summer it gives me a place to work on games and have my collection somewhere other than moth-balled in storage.

I have moved and set up 3 of 10 games so far and am trying to move 1-2 a day as I can.

The garage does have a small covered patio attached to it and I can work on restorations our there in the summer time and it won’t be so hot.

Still hoping for a better solution longer term but this is the best I can do right now.

That Old Chicago needs a cabinet paint job in the worst way...........

#12306 4 years ago

Old Chicago...I know.
Already have the stencils from pinball pimp.

The playfield has to be restored also, all plastics are new, I can work on the mechanics, but I am a bad painter/restorer.

Also have a Cosmos in cue for restauration.
Time...

I did my OC with the pimp stencils, it's really worth the effort. Great unique colors & design on the cabinet graphics.

Lol, that’s my quasi-steampunk light. Home built except for the switch. Guess what has failed twice now....gotta come up with my own design

Thanks - I actually hope it’s temporary and I find a better space soon. It really is going to be like an oven here in the summer in that garage. No insulation whatsoever. I MAY have a family memeber who will have garage space in the next 3-4 months that will be insulated. Fingers crossed.

These are the last 2 of my 10 that haven’t been moved yet to the crappy garage i mention above .

Both are for sale and I actually sold Top Card tonight! Just thought they looked nice next to each other - and kinda lonely with the other 8 now moved...

Boilerman
I assume that is NAGS in the garage up front.
No Backglasses in games during wintertime to protect against paint loss due to temperature fluctuations?

i store the bg in the house, the games in the garage are the projects. nags is next in line once i finish up the canada dry. i have had the nags for years, i finally pushed it to the front of the line, so it can be put into the game room.

Just finished off the Spanish Eyes. This game was a project. When I got it, it had been in storage somewhere hot for a long time. The playfield was planking and peeling and worn to the bone around all the pop bumpers. I decided to make a playfield protector to prevent any further damage. I have a good method for making the protector, so that is not a huge project. I did a little touch up on the playfield and to fix the areas under the pops, I made some sun patterns like the ones already in the art other places on the playfield and put them under the protector. All in all the playfield looks nice now even though I left a lot of patina rather than repainting large areas. The protector makes it shiny, smooth and fast.

The game came to me with the backglass completely peeled and basically gave a clear view of the backboard lamps! I got a BGResto glass and it sure looks sweet!!

I went with all LEDs against my normal way of doing EMs. In rare cases the heat from regular bulbs can cause the protector sheets to expand and not sit totally flat. Either way, I figured LEDs would look good in this game. I went with Sunlight LEDs from Comet. They are a nice mix between daylight and warm white. The LEDs also work behind the BGResto backglass because it doesn't pass as much light through as an OEM glass.

The game plays so fast its unbelievable. It may be the fastest pop bumper action I have ever seen!

This may be a keeper for a while. We will definitely lock horns on it when you come over.

#12320 3 years ago

Looks great John. The pop bumper art looks like it could have been factory. I'm going to check my Spanish Eyes and see the playfield condition around the pops. My SE is a warehouse find that I haven't got to yet. If it looks like I expect it does maybe I can talk you into printing me up a set pop bumper art. Can't wait to play your SP. By the way I think SE was the first pin that I came across with DC pop bumpers. Sure made the pops fast.

LOL I hate when that happens on my Harlem Globetrotters (very similar layout). Always tell myself to just get it over with, that ball isn't coming back no matter what the hell you do.

CANADA DRY

Lucked out......

Estate sale in NJ. I told the estate co. owner to mention my offer to the game owner (with the estate) thinking at the end of the auction they may consider. He said it would start out higher than my offer which I expected. I said no thanks. Then, four days before the sale started he texts me and said seller would accept my offer (afraid coronavirus would shut the sale down). I'm surprised no one submitted an offer higher than mine for a rare game like this. - only 6 or 7 that I know of in US. Most all (2,885) were sent to France for their promotion/tournament.

Here's a Canada Dry post from rgp in 2009 that may explain the history of this one.

[email protected]
- show quoted text -
I had 1 (Canada Dry) sold it b4 I moved to va from nj there were cont loads of them
brought in to hillside nj in the late 70,s when nyc said it was ok to
have pins in bars

The game had a paper in it saying it was serviced in Oct, 1980 in New Jersey. Or, it never left the US which I doubt.

Really like the artwork and the silk screened backglass (glass) is in great shape! Playfield and cabinet have wear that had been touched up. It was definitely played on location. Plays somewhat but needs refurbished.

EDIT:
After investigating further, this Canada Dry never left the US. It has the standard US 115V transformer, standard score motor, no Mondial coin entrance housing, and correct 25c plates & labels.

Never seen a cabinet made of metal before! How long did William's do this for?!

Williams, tried the metal cabinets, they had a fear that wood cabinet Solid State games were going to be lighter and easier to steal. They dropped the metal cabinet as it did cost more to make and possibly harder for them to change up the assembling of the metal cabinets.

Confession Time.

It has been 3 and a bit weeks since being laid off. "I Played Pinball Today". Have not touched the games in that time. Played for just more than a hour, now my left wrist is numb. Scored 83,000 on the Abra Ca Dabra, scored 56,000 on the Sky Jump. Tomorrow is Sunday, will have plenty of spare time to wipe the glass, and wax most of the playfields.

Sunday morning, starting on some repairs.

I've had a last machine on the wanted list about 4 times,

with the toughest. Space Walk's the present last machine on
the wanted list..

Whoa! That Canada Dry is sweeeet! Didn't realize it was the El Dorado layout too.
I spend a lot of nights in the "got 13 or 14 down, you almost had it" club...oof.
Feels great to roll this baby though.

Question for you gents. I found a Prospector in pretty good shape. Cab 6/10, pf 7.5/10 but brand new bg still wrapped. Guy wants a little over $750.
Yes, even 5 years ago I would've laughed at this price but today's market is not that anymore.

Looks good. New BG to boot! If it’s on your list and you want it, buy it for $750. I have not had a good deal in two years. Paid a grand and $1,300 for my last two because I wanted them.

#12340 3 years ago

The new bg kinda makes the deal, right? I mean, it's gotta be $200. Just a guess.
I'm 95% sure I'm getting it, cause I loved the 2 spinners and gameplay. Just wanted to run it by the experts first.
Thanks for your reply Mikala.

I forgot to mention that he also said he would shop it out, make sure it's 100%, new rubbers, etc and get it all cleaned up. That's a seller that I like right there.

Price sounds fine..plus, if he’s gonna put new rubbers in, and check all the relays/steppers..good deal I’d imagine..

That's what I'm thinking as well.
