Quoted from gdonovan:

As promised, gameplay video of Williams #Magic-Town

Nice job on that Magic Town, gdonovan. I just spent the last two hours getting caught up on this thread from over a year ago. Lots of great games in here & excellent restoration work. Makes me impatient to show my games... but pinball museum and house improvements must come first. Still cranking away like a madman.

Norm Clark’s 2” middle-pop layout geometry is TUFF. Lots of air around the pop bumper. While some cool rebounds occasionally happen, I do wonder if using flippers that were a smidge longer (if they existed... maybe 1/8” more?) would improve the pop/flipper interaction without breaking the gameplay? Or hot-rodding the middle pop coil a bit for stronger rebounds?

His 3” middle-pop games have the best interplay between the flippers and the pop bumper... almost as if it were a third flipper. I think that’s the key. A bit more fun than the drainy 2” version which is noticeably less interactive.

Liking it so far? I’ve got Mark’s LED spinning fountain color wheel on display at the museum. It’s gorgeous. I sure hope he mass-produces it.

WOW. My Big Deal sounds like a garbage disposal with a spoon stuck in it compared to this unit. Color me green with envy.

Clanky Williams chime unit. It might need a PBR rebuild kit. Sometimes they sound a little better after a rebuild, but chimes ain't never gonna be bells.

It is tough but that is part of the attraction too. I changed some elastics before the video which gives it a notable amount of zip. It isn't a 100% yet, I have to strip and wax the playfield and touch up a spot or two. I might break down the lower pop, freshen it all up and set it to hair trigger.

I have been in touch; Frankly while I like the concept it is a little too high tech for my taste with the phone controlled operations. If he comes out with a simple unit I might be interested. Have to wait and see.

The Williams 3 chime boxes were clankly no doubt. I have several pins with those boxes (Triple Action and Space Odyssey come to mind) and no matter what combo of washers/spacers/foam/clips they always sounds clanky. Gottlieb and Bally had the best chime boxes, I can listen to Night Rider banging away all night in the corner.

Have my own thoughts on a chime box design, going to try and make a vertical chime setup this winter.

You like 'da bells? I give you more bells.

No worries. The WiFi configuration by phone is totally optional. All you have to do is plug it in. The default settings look great.

Quoted from Pinasco:

@ GDonovan: Very impressed by that backbox lighting. Magic Town is a great example of fine backglass art.

Thank you, tried to do a side by side shot with and without strips. The "game over" still uses incandescent in both and you can see the light balance is off in one shot, darn cell phones.

This proves that using LED strips in your backglass results in lower scores!

Just like the subject says. Show us your EMs! Show us those shiny Ems that you spent hours restoring.

Well, since you asked. I am very happy with my Lady Luck. The neighbor came over yesterday afternoon to play me and my 13 year old - who will actually stop playing video games to come play pinball. Lady Luck

You funny guy!

It is without a doubt one of the most difficult EM pins I have played, I enjoy the challenge. Have broken 2000, once.

This round I managed to light MAGIC CITY and collected on it. Hitting the top most rollover on the skill shot is worth 50 points and lights the bumpers and is key to good scores.

10 hours round trip total this weekend... but now I have a mostly complete Sea Wolf, no legs, no lock down bar.

Tom Tom... what you see is all I have, no back box. But it did come with a large mouse nest inside of it. I pulled that out before loading into the car. I got into the car and made it all of 30 yards down the road when the strong smell of mouse piss hit me. It was bad. I was staying the night at a friend's place 1 hour away. Once I got to his house, we pulled the pins out, fully shopped them out (vacuumed out mouse turds), and then dumped a box of backing soda where the mouse nest was. 4 hours later the baking soda had absorbed a fair amount of moisture. I vacuumed it out and with that, it didn't smell.

My Big Deal chimes sounded more or less like someone throwing silverware down the driveway. After cleaning them up and using a rebuild kit from PBR - they sounded like clean silverware being thrown down a driveway.

This Italian wedgehead was sitting outside under a tarp for two years, after being brought here from South Africa.
The cabinet is shot, but the rest fared very well. I sealed the backglass today, and popped it in a "Top Card" box. Luckily, I have a spare wedgehead cabinet for it, also from a "Top Card". It is basically a foreign made Gottlieb.
Only one of these registered on Pinball Owners which is primarily foreign owners.
Thanks to Kevin McHugh for the lead.

As a little bonus, I found a 2 Rand coin inside the cabinet. A whopping 13.4 US cents at today's exchange rate!

Speaking of 1967... Been brushing up on the finer points of Magic Town and the scores are rising..

The Italian version is a one player with an extra score reel + 2 stationary "0's" to make in millions vs thousands.
I'm sure they are more differences.

Jr - was the backglass a plexi?
The playfield looks nice also.

#11984 4 years ago

Regular glass, but thicker than a normal '70s backglass.
The playfield is damn near perfect!
This game was probably nice when they first brought it here two years ago. Who knows why they left it outside.

Lots of differences in the coaster riders. Mostly the women/girls for some reason. They made all the younger looking ones a bit older. Would love to know the story behind the changes.

Some of the faces on the Playmec version look familiar. Guy up front looks like Dick York (the original Darrin on "Bewitched"). Another guy looks like Dick Clark, and the woman in the middle looks a little like Carol Burnett. The guy in the back with the derby hat (falling out of the coaster!) looks a bit like Lou Costello. Names from the past for sure, but it's a 1975 vintage game.

I finally finished swapping to a better playfield in Dodge City. Now I have the lineup the way it's supposed to be with Dodge City sitting right next to Shipmates! Someday maybe I'll stencil both games, but for now it's good enough to have them both playing 100%.[quoted image]

I am drooling over that Ship Mates? How fun is it to play? I never was able to finish my project Ship Mates due to personal issues a few years back. One day I hope to at least get to play a game on one.

You're right......such a beautiful game. Previous owner decked it out with LED's which I like even though I prefer these Ems with regular lights but this was done well.

That BG looks pretty damn sharp! I'm with you, I'm not much on the LEDS, even less on EM's and early SS pins. Congrats looks like you've got a decent pin, enjoy your 1st now, you'll be enjoying the next pin soon enough.

It's a great playing game, especially for multiple players. It has great progressive rules and satisfying shots. Fun to steal the extra ball after someone else leaves you set up! This is my go to game when friends come over and it's time to go head to head and lock horns.
