Agree. Not every game needs a museum-quality restoration, but if that's what you want and you can do it, go ahead. I like the original look to a point. Nothing like a mint original though.

I like the third way myself
Where you have an original cabinet and between cleaning and careful touchup elevates its from ok to very presentable as in the Melody. I don't aim to get all the scratches and scuffs out which lends an air of light patina.
The paint on the Hearts and Spades though was a lost cause, it was painted mustard yellow when i got it. Yuk. Its restoration some of my best work yet.

I have learned to live with some significant patina on the cabinet. I would rather have the game original unless it is really bad or it is de-laminating from water damage or something. Both of these games above have cabinets that are rough, but I can live with for now. I did replace the bottom board in the Dodge City because it was basically disintegrated. I put in a 1/2" plywood sheet and now it is rock solid when it is riding around on my cart!
I'm looking at a Jungle Queen but it needs two (if not just all of them) monkey drops replaced. Are these unobtainium?

$4 each usd new at pinball Resource. If you haven’t place an order with them in the past you’ll need to call to place your first order.

That's a bit odd but great thanks for the heads up. Hopefully they deliver to Canada
Quoted from KnockerPTSD:That's a bit odd but great thanks for the heads up. Hopefully they deliver to Canada
It might not be the norm but I had never placed an order with them and ordered by email. I had my order 3 days later and didn’t have to pay up front. I created a thread on it yesterday.
I’m sure they deliver to Canada.
Quoted from KnockerPTSD:That's a bit odd but great thanks for the heads up. Hopefully they deliver to Canada
They do deliver to Canada. I heard that they added a payment method for Canadians. In the US they only accept checks. You place your first order up to $50 and Pbr will ship the goods to you, create an account number for you, and include an invoice. Mail the check after receipt of goods. Every order after that works the same way except most people email their second order in, and mail the check after receipt of goods.
Pbr even ships here
For the first order they will send an invoice and request you to pay via transferwise and send the order afterwards.
For the next ones they'll ship the stuff along with the invoice and you pay when you receive it.

Hold on here. Are you telling me there are 20 pinball machines on Saint Martin Island? I’m there about 2-3 weeks a year. How have they survived the hurricanes?
Just picked up my first Em! Someone painted the front black to cover up graffiti so will need to be repainted, set up at the legendary Pinball Asylum to get some love. Can’t wait for Wade Krause playfield, going all out on This one Babee!!!!

Nihonmasa is located in Switzerland, Saint-Martin. So ya, most likely there are not 20 pins on Saint Martin.

Where are you getting the playfield from? Is he rerunning it?

Yes, he's taking names now and will be done next year.

There is one for sale here in Florida. Let us know how it plays!
Quoted from Sea_Wolf:So you’re now a member of ‘The Middle Pop club?
Yes. It is a challenging game.
Just completed a full resto on a GTB 1966 Crosstown (previously posted cab repaint).
This machine was in a fairly poor state with cab structural issues including bottom board needing replacement and a range of operational and 'previous fix' issues and loads of stripped timber thread holes.
My primary concern however was that at some point someone had clearcoated the playfield whilst populated and before any cleaning. The shooter and upper ball trails were also quite nasty. Therefore the pf resto was always going to be a compromise but in the circumstances I am reasonably happy with the result but will be on the lookout for a better pf.
The machine did not have coin chutes but I was able to modify a couple of earlier chutes to resemble the half moon style. For the moment I have used a 5c/25c coin plate but will be on the lookout for a 10c/25c version.
The registration between the upper blue front cab line with those on the cab are out but thats the way it was and reflected on ipbd. I am always a tad drawn to correct these anomolies but on this one I decided to leave as original-anyhow a good talking point that things in the day were not necessarily perfect.
Machine plays fast and is really a delight to play. I really like the graphics of this era.

The machine looks great. Did you use your own stencils or did you buy them? I’m doing a repaint soon. I found a coin plate within a day or so after posting a want ad on here. PBR sells them but it might look out of place. If I can find the guys info where I got it I’ll let you know.

I'll try and do a video this weekend of gameplay.

Thks Murphdom-yes a new coin plate does look quite out of place unless accompanied by a new door. I make the stencils using an initial trace to tracing paper which is cut out, then transferred to mdf 7mm board and the board cutout using a Makita jigsaw with fine metal tooth blade as for the cab and lightbox one stencil for each colour covers both sides. On this occasion the cab front stencils were fabricated from timber moulding. Importance of this process is to obtain original bleed, less cost and re-usable.
Darn things just keep following me home. It’s an invasion. And this one has the cool 3” flipper mod. But pf in almost perfect condition and bg in pretty good condition. Cabinet, not so much. But price was right.

It looks like those flippers would hit each other if used at the same time.
HOKUS POKUS!!
Just sold this one to a fellow Pinsider, bought the metal back door from another Pinsider, and I am the Pinsider that sold it. Looks like this one is part of the Pinside family! Did my usual going through the machine and getting some new parts for it. The leg bolts are original Bally that I polished. The coin door skin is new and I tore down the door completely and did the evaporust, ultrasonic, and polish to it. Original cabinet paint, legs, super nice backglass, and playfield. A very nice example all in all of this title. Fun game too, just needed the room for other titles to filter in.

Very nice work Ken.
I like LED I cannot lie.. Strips, flashers and color changers from Comet. Backglass looks awesome lit up as was originally intended. Easily reversible, just some alligator clips and a few pieces of tape.

Wow man, typically I’d say no way to this but man it worked out really well.
Quoted from mrm_4:Wow man, typically I’d say no way to this but man it worked out really well.
I'll have to take another picture with my digital camera and see if it does better than my cell phone. For some reason my phone hates taking an accurate picture of LEDs. I'm done with incandescent bulbs in pins, tired of the premature bulb failures and uneven lighting and dimness in some cases. I do go to great pains though to make sure nothing looks garish.
Edit: digital camera no better than the cell, something about the light from LED and CCD sensors no doubt. I took a closeup of part of the backglass so you could get some idea of what it looks like in person. It is NOT washed out and you can see all the art details which are fantastic.
DSCN9097 (resized).JPGDSCN9102 (resized).JPGDSCN9100 (resized).JPGI agree, that looks sharp with the LED strips.
Also, 100% support that new incandescent bulbs are terrible. The filaments are so thin and prone to breaking.
Quoted from Pin-it:One I am close to getting done.
Metal still needs some polishing and a little cabinet work.

Hope the maker of this machine sued or got a lot of $$$ from them ripping off the design of the Battlestar Galactia heavy cruiser ships from them. WOW. Nice machine.
@ EM-Pinman: Beautiful games and that cabinet artwork on Hokus Pokus is stunning. Theatre of Magic from the 70's.
@ GDonovan: Very impressed by that backbox lighting. Magic Town is a great example of fine backglass art.

Bells, bells, bells!!! I love that sound. I grew up in the 60's and remember arcades at the seashore with up to 100 machines. Can you imagine the operators head at the end of a day?
Real nice machine!

Real nice machine!
To be frankly honest I added a third bell to this machine and will continue to tinker with it!
The 1 point has a small original bell and from the factory 10 and 100 used a unique Williams "chime box" in the backbox with a single chime. I had a 5" Gottlieb bell hanging about so have that running off the 100 point relay. The sound is somewhat unsatisfactory and I'm thinking of making my own 3 chime box in the near future. I have plenty of aluminum stock kicking around and spare time during the winter. Williams was clearly cutting corners on this machine as it has the most gawdawful lamp sockets, they cut the number of lamps that was suppose to be in the backbox (not to mention a proposed color wheel for the fountain) but didn't change the light mask on the backglass. They did not even change "MAGIC CITY" on the playfield to "MAGIC TOWN"
Quoted from Playdium:Bells, bells, bells!!! I love that sound.
I was thinking the same thing. Those bells resonate so long and sound so sweet. Great job Gary.

That is why I have not been able to sell my Mayfair yet, the bells are beautiful.

WOW. My Big Deal sounds like a garbage disposal with a spoon stuck in it compared to this unit. Color me green with envy.
