That's pretty cool. I just looked up Melody. I'd heard it was the add-a-ball version, didn't know they were almost identical.

I almost passed because of the shape it was in and my lack of EM knowledge. Glad I didn't now. My youngest plays it a lot too. It's been fun watching him nudge the ball and hit the lit rollovers pretty consistently.
And yeah, I'll agree. The post does help alot. It'd be pretty difficult without it.

I picked up this low played super clean game two days ago and glad I did. I got about 20 hours of shop work in it already and got to play a game tonight.

I just found these in the back of a machine. It was like opening a time capsule. Funny seeing their punched out holes still in place

The only thing better is if they are for the machine you found them in AND it needs them.

They were in my newly acquired Pat Hand but the machine doesn’t need them. Also the NOS set seems to be set on a brownish orange color but the machines plastics are more yellow toned.

The wrapped originals are not faded, that is a great find.

I betcha 11 doughnuts and 1 cruller they’re NOS prototype. The original flyer shows them in a color that’s more beige than yellow. Mmmmmm doughnuts....

Nice lineup! I really like that Spin Out! How do you like the game play?

I love it! Just picked it up last week and did just the basics to get it going — fixed the Roto Target and did a cursory cleaning. Really fun rules-set and great theme!

Picked up this Globe Trotter yesterday. It plays beautifully. It will need some cleaning.

Interesting play, reversed flippers in the lower section of the playfield. As the game progresses and you hit all of the roll overs, and knock out the 1 thru 9 the playfield will be dark, except the pop bumpers, and the Special Kicker.

Thanks. It is a challenging game to play, the reversed lower flippers, kind of mixes stuff up. Getting the top roll overs, lights the engines on the plane in the backglass.

This game was purchased new for the YMCA in Monmouth County NJ in 1976. It was on location there for around two years or so before being brought to a N.J. Summer Camp in 1979.

At the Summer Camp the game became a distraction for the addicted pinball kids and was removed. Sometime in 1979, the game at that point ended up in the home of the N.J. State Facility supervisor and was well cared for 40 years.

I bought the game from the retired Facility supervisor around a week or so ago and was thrilled to see the condition when I first arrived at the home.

This game is well built, fun to play and should last a long time with its factory clear coat on playfield and cabinet. The internal parts seemed to made of strong durable materials similar to the USA manufactures.

This is my first experience with Playmatic. I have about 25 hours into this game and can only let you know what I have learned and encountered so far.

The cabinet is made up of particleboard and a very thin type of Laminate covering the complete surface area and the Laminate seems to be clear coated and long lasting, if not bumped to scraped etc. The playfield is clear coated and the protection from wear is superb and long lasting with proper maintenance. The internals parts are well made, but underneath the playfield is a little crowded when trying to change light bulbs or clean switches. The motor board and back box are easier to work on things, especially the score reels.

I found about a dozen or more of the bulb sockets in need of repair or replacement otherwise the game is again well made and trouble-free. All of the metal on this game is bright and shiny and didn't need anything but a polishing and is made of good quality.

Comparing to Gottlieb games there is a slight difference in sound, play, size and weight and really nothing that different that stands out. It actually plays more like my 1976 Williams Blue Chip, which also has extremely low plays on it. The New World has some nice features that the Gottlieb games don't have and the Gottlieb's have some nice features that the New World doesn't have. See my you tube video for details #11629

There really isn't that much overall difference between the two machines except you can tell which one is which, if you were blindfolded and got to play them both side by side. The thing that stands out to me the most about this New World is the smoothness of the playfield and how flat the lenses lay on the playfield.

It's obvious I played many Gottlieb's, Bally's and William's on route growing up in the 1960's and 1970's and prefer these games in my collection over other manufactures for sentimental reasons and more....but truthfully this Playmatic is a great pinball machine to have in your collection, if you have the extra space for it.

What advances the cities around the world? Is this a carry over feature leading to specials?
Only city I am not familiar with was Santa Maria. Not thinking it is Santa Maria in California,
probably relates to something in the Atlantic near the Azores.
Love the fact that the cities do include the Middle east Tehran, Bagdad and Karachi.

To advance the cities, the ball has to hit a 'lit' pop bumper 5 times. The factory setting is Manila for the Replay, each city after Manila awards a Replay. The cities reset for each game, always starting in Chicago, (imagine that). I could only guess that Gottlieb was referring to Santa Maria California.

If it were me, I'd make a true wedgehead out of it. That was my first ever machine, and I couldn't stand how that head looked next to my brother's "Subway".
I've always wanted to see what it would look like with a wedgehead backbox. I think it would look great.

California would be backtracking for an eastward globetrot from Chicago.
Doing a little google search found out that
Santa Maria, Portuguese island located in the eastern group of the Azores archipelago and the southernmost island in the Azores.

One factor in me looking for one was it was NOT a wedgehead, I like oddities. Interesting they tried something different and the gameplay is fun and it sounds great!

The Azores was a common airplane refueling stop, if I recall. Back in the 50's and 60's for trans Atlantic flights with a plane with propellers.

I've been playing with my new 3D printer. This might offend some purists here but I started making replacement start buttons for my 60s and 70s Gottlieb EMs to make them more obvious. They are now similar to the newer Gottliebs. I won't be having to point out the start button to people any more and it actually makes it easier on me too! I do plan on making some other EM parts that are not available new. The old card guides for 60s Gottlieb score reel assemblies are coming up soon.

I think that is pretty nice. I find it amazing there isn’t anything on the front but a tiny red button. I literally have to tell everyone how to start a game. I was thinking of a sticker with a big arrow that says “new game” but this is better

That's one of the most frustrating parts of having that era of Gottliebs in my collection. I ALWAYS make a point to replace the button with a new one from PBR, and yet, people still can't figure it out...
