This is my only EM a Williams Apollo that is certainly not in the best shape but was/is fun to work on and play. I bought it at a estate sale broken and without any idea how to work on a pinball machine beyond the most basic things. Thanks to all the pinsiders who post advice and those who ask questions I was able to get it back to a functioning pinball machine.

Here's my El Dorado. I got it 25 years ago, the previous owner had partially painted over the front face of the head with what appears to be oil-based paint so I have not tried to strip it, although that is something I'd like to fix to make more authentic looking. My back glass has some flaking that I have attempted to contain the damage and touch up -- I have not seen a replacement back glass for this machine anywhere (please let me know if they exist?).

Picked up this 1967 Gottlieb 2 player about two months ago. I still have some fine tuning left to complete. It was missing the 10 point bell and assembly, play field glass, lockdown bar and flipper coil. Only part left to find is an original back door.

The four flipper arrangement is a blast to play and I don’t find the flipper arrangement awkward at all since I was brought up playing on a Gottlieb Show Boat which is the same flipper arrangement.

I have a tremendous amount work hours into this game and was a beast filled with tons of issues. I found out the game was laying dormant for 50+ years without being played.

I really like the backglass art work, with the other Gottliebs in the background. I'm sure I have never played one.

What paints did you use to touch up the cabinet, Vic?

My new Fireball needs a hole-lotta-work. But good tunes & the occasional adult beverage will get me over the hump.

I used the paint I got from one of the top restoration specialist on the east coast. I have these bottles for years now and still are usable. I think the Blue color is from a 1967 Gottlieb Sing Alone restoration and the red/ color from 1967 King of Diamond restoration.

A Flying Carpet that I just finished fixing up for someone else. I’m super proud of the playfield, total tear down, lots of ultrasonic and tumbling. Owner has no idea how much work I put into it...many, many hours spent on the game...

Game play on the Super Score is quick pace, powerful and intense. The playfield is a bit smaller than the normal pinball machine playfield because of the Roulette wheel taking up extra space.

I really the unique scoring feature where the "C" rollover/target value in three steps can reach 2000 point payout to the player. It's easy to get the "C" rollover/target value to 2000 points, but difficult to collect the 2000k on the Roulette spin. If the player does manage to get the 2000 point value lit and land on the "C" in the roulette wheel, then the machine will whack the 100 point gong bell 20 times consecutively and reset the "A" "B" and "C". Maybe that why the named it Super Score!

I am going to do a complete game play video on this game explaining in detail the sequence of operation from the players perspective.

Again, I really like this game as a player because the four flipper arrangement for me is like playing the standard two flipper arrangement (I never get confused what flipper to flip). I can understand a player not being use to this flipper arrangement....which in turn could be a turn off for them and labeling the game as a flop, but in reality they never get to truly know what a good player the game really is. For sure the back glass artwork is nice.

The game looks beautiful, especially the playfield. I played Flying Carpet on route when it first came and liked the game. It is a bit of tough player and require nudging/shaking skills to beat it for replays. At the "summer classic pinball show" in Wayne NJ some years back, a guy pulled up with the best condition Flying Carpet I've ever seen. The cabinet colors were blinding and the playfield top arch had no where what so ever. That one game I wished I bought. For sure Flying Carpet is a one of a few most attractive looking wedgeheads. Nice work!

Thanks, it was truly a labor of love. I’ve fixed up a few older Gottliebs. Very satisfying, especially after you figure that it’s usually just sticky steppers that keep them from working. Of course, the real work is in the cosmetics and rebuilding the flippers, pops, etc...

Picked up this 1969 Bally Gator a few weeks ago. The game was in a New City tie store in the 1970's for customers to play and enjoy while they shop The previous owner took the game to his home after closing down the store. The game is extra clean inside and out and plays nice now after 30+ hours of work.

What does that wheel in the middle do?

The roulette wheel scores the “A” “B” and “C” score values depending on where the player has them lit on the play field and where the small silver ball lands on the wheel. The “Star” on the wheel awards a free ball to the player.

When the player makes any stand up target or rollover letter "A" "B" or "C" the value in front of the roulette wheel moves up in value and also lights on the back glass in the machine (pop bumpers) the girl with the red hair is playing (back glass light animation...see picture).

The player must get the ball into the lit kick out hole during play to start the wheel spinning and hope for the best possible score value or landing in the "Star" for an extra or free ball.

The cool thing is once any letter A B or C reaches its top level of points and the player lands in this top points value the game will payoff the points and reset the A B and C back down to the lowest points value. The player at this points starts to shoot for the Letters A B and C again to increase the points values back up to the top, which as you can see in the pictures is only 3 steps upward.

The real cool thing is when the player has the "C" points value up to 2000 and lands in the kick out or go through the side out that is lit on the spin lens and then lands in the letter "C" the game will fire off 20 straight whacks on the 100 point gong bell. If you never heard this bell sounding off, its loud and can you image this happening 20 times in a row, its something to witness.

This game plays fast and powerful. The player has to be on their toes and can't blink an eye, if they want to beat this game for some replays. The reason being is the playfield is an unique design layout. It's smaller in size then the normal standard playfield. The roulette wheel is taking up the extra space at the bottom of the playfield and decreases the length of play the ball can move around. If you ever get a chance to play this game...don't pass it up.

The pop bumpers are getting closer to the flippers with this latest addition. Maybe someday I’ll get a middle pop game.

This one’s fairly clean. Has some fade and some mechanical issues. But nothing too bad from what I can tell.

This was originally held down by screws and washers, which if overtightened leads to stress cracking. I replaced 5 of them with posts that use caps to make shop and adjustment easier.

I ordered one for Klondike, which is the same plastic with different graphics, and can attest it is heavier quality than OEM and nice!

So is the one pictured original or repro?

Original. You can tell its warped with a small crack. The repo is much nicer.

Sonic Faces is now up and running.
Like most of these factory polyurethaned games, the playfield is in beautiful shape and the backglass is pretty close to mint condition. I had to get some expert help to get it to the point to where it would start a game but it still had a couple of issues after that. The top of the playfield has a 5 position feature that cycles throughout gameplay and is operated by one of those small 10 step units. The coil was completely fried and the pawl was underneath the gear wheel. A new coil and reassembly fixed that.
Each time all 5 rollover buttons are hit, one of the four eyes on the playfield lights and a feature is enabled such as extra balls, special, lighting pop bumpers, etc. The second eye's relay was not pulling in which turned out to be a broken wire on the coil lug. Easy fix.
I soldered all the light sockets and replaced a couple in the backbox. The original rollover buttons were a faded yellowish orange and were out of round so those were replaced and are now illuminated with flex mount amber LEDs.

Looks good, but the fuses are still dusty. Have you pulled them to check for correct ratings? I think that I have found maybe two fuses with the correct amperage rating out of all of the pins that I have worked on.

Haven’t really done anything except the PF at this point. I will check out the fuses and clear the dust, just had to show off how the pf turned out.
Game had a delivery receipt to the address it was picked up from, dated 1981.
So home use for the last 39 years!

17,xxx total plays is low low low. I've never seen a JQ or JP that didn't have kick out hole wear. It makes me wonder if it had a fatal defect early in its operator life and sat until someone could figure it out and then it was too old to put back on route what with the solid state games that had taken over by 1981.

Agreed, under 60k plays is low imo.
Game was not working, and the main thing was 3 relays (2 in head, one below), all 3 had (multiple) switch blades in the wrong slots of the actuators, how that can happen is beyond me. I had to take them apart to put them in properly, and then she was good to go.
Wish it could talk, and tell the story.

I bought a gorgeous non working Surf Side 20 years ago which, since it was not working, was priced right. The story is it worked fine then he loaned it to a friend for a party and it didn't work after the party.

I got it home and opened it up and found cat hair everywhere and relay actuators messed up on more than half of the main board relays. Went through each relay and got all the switches back into the actuators and it fired right up. As I went through each relay I couldn't help but feel bad for the cat.
