Quoted from Darcy:Is your chime unit not making any sound?
Thought it was not making a sound due to an electrical problem, check this out. The plungers were stuck in the goo of what was left of the silencer rubber. Guess that years of some one oiling the plungers, created the black sticky mess. This from my High Hand.

Did you try adding fresher oil?

OK, how about 2 EMs and 1 SS. Now I need a Bally Sky Kings (don't tell my wife).

Picked up a Sky Kings last night. And, my wife knows. I really do think that is it for me getting more pins.

Photo will be posted soon.

Going down south to pick up an EM tomorrow. It has the “extended play” feature. Should be easy to figure out which title it is.

Yeah, I said that after pin number 2

My wife has quite a few handbags, shoes, earnings, rings, necklaces and so on. I'm just trying to catch up!

She likes all the games. She hates seeing the money taken from the bank account.

I'm going the other direction, just sold Big Star last night to a nice couple with three boys.

You know
I do not think I have ever seen a Big Star or Super Star that was in real nice shape.
While the games I have seen or owned were playable,
cosmetically they were always lacking.
Lots of BG flaking
CAB paint looking shabby
and PFs with planking.
OVerall the art package just not being very pretty
does not help either,
even though the game play and features are kinda cool and fun.

The playfield on this one was fairly good, some wear around the poppers and a few other odd spots. I think it spent time in a barn though as there was a mouse nest or two and the temp changes take their toll on the backglass. The front of the cab was actually off when I purchased it! I did repairs, fixed a bunch of solder joints that were broken and gave it a good cleaning. Has a Bally chime set which sounded really cool and different. I picked it up to do a re-theme, but have more projects than time so.. And yes it was a very fun game to play, get both the bonus lit and sink the shot to advance the add-a-ball was fun if you could pull it off!

The new owners may do a repaint, the wife was very excited about the purchase and could not wait to get it home and start playing.

Lots of my residents enjoyed playing it, I'll have to bring another one in this summer.

Anyone looking for a project 50$. Or is it landfill? Pin is in Wisconsin.

Seems like a charming game with some potential. I don't need it but would gladly intercept it before it headed to the dump. Hopefully it won't come to that.

I posted it to the flipperless thread.

My latest project is a 1963 Bally 3-In-Line.

I saw that in my search for my first pin a month ago, but that's too much of a project for me. It's a shame since that's less than 30 minutes from me, but I wouldn't know what to do with it.

Buy it. You cant go wrong. Dedicate 15 mins a day to it when you get home. You would be surprised how much you can get done.

Being That low, you cant go wrong.

I'm concerned about spending a lot of time and money only to end up with a machine that still doesn't work and is still virtually worthless.

#11427 5 years ago

If the machine was better known it would be worth a shot but this sounds like a high risk/low reward kind of thing.

You're the one who got me into this hobby, so thanks for not trying to talk me into this project.

As much as I want to see early machines preserved, I don't think this is one I can take on.

Ahh, but the education on doing the repair work is invaluable, & if you fail it never hurts to have a parts machine for future projects. Win / Win

Low end pin men rule!

You can always get an EM to work. They are just relays and switches. The amount of time, however, i cant tell you. That is the rub. You may fix it in 5 minutes. It may takes months.

The real questions are do you care enough to invest the time and could you get your money back if you gave up on it?

#11435 5 years ago

If we are still talking about the $50 Exhibit Coed, the ad says functional. So I'm guessing it at least is partially working.

The tricky part with a game like this isn't so much whether you can get it working. It's the fact that not everyone appreciates woodrails and especially a flipperless one. This type game appeals to a small segment of pinball collectors. With that said, where can you find an interesting piece of lightable and interactive art for $50? And I'm guessing it may be more fun than most expect it to be.

#11436 5 years ago
Quoted from AlexF:

And I'm guessing it may be more fun than most expect it to be.

Right there Alex! Every woodrail, flipperless or not, ended up being more fun than I expected...

I always play the flipperless games at the shows. They kind of draw you in.
I think they are pretty fun. A completely different animal than a flipper machine.

Agreed. With enough effort and money one can get an EM to work. One issue I’ve seen elsewhere on the site is the dreaded “T” word. I’ve seen enough horror stories where the buyer gets termites along with the machine to make me cautious about machines in this price range. A thorough inspection is important.

Generally I'd guess that is sound advice. However, termites are a fairly rare occurrence in Wisconsin. Never seen one in my 48 years. Powder post beetles or carpenter ants are more common here and even those I've never really worried about. No bugs in the 80 plus games I've owned.

I'd guess the price is based on other variables.

Recent pic. Top Score (to be sold later this spring) is out of frame being shopped out. Top Card and Big Hit will follow into the shop. That Drop a Card on the right will need significant cabinet work before I start on the game itself.

How you liking it in TX, since moving (back?) from the NW?
Has your EM collection recovered from the move.

Love living in Texas. The EMs survived. I sold the Target Alpha I brought down from Gig Harbor but I have the rest. I’ve added a King Pin, a Big Hit, a Drop a Card (needs complete restoration) a Top Card and a Top Score.

I’ve also bought / restored / sold a second Quick Draw and second King Pin, along with a Spin A Card while in a Texas.

On the hunt for others in my wishlist...
