It's been two, maybe three years since Alex sent me this lovely 1960 two player Serenade. Since I am all caught up on other projects, I figured I'd freshen it up a bit and shop it out. Won't need much, because beside a few minor bugs, it has always worked like a champ.

Of the woodrail multiplayers I have owned and played, this is the best of them. Not just because of the look, but great rules and gameplay as well. One that has really earned it's stay, and it will be staying for as long as I can tell.

Nice! Its possible you have the finest assortment of EM machines available, all good players too. Your mantra of getting rid of ones not played is a good one.

#11253 5 years ago

Thanks! I play em all when they get here, as do the people that come over. Some have lost their luster quicker than others for sure. Whatever people including myself do keep playing, are the ones that stick around. And the ones that are here now, never seem to get old. That's the ins and outs of collecting pinball machines, I guess. For some anyway.

#11254 5 years ago

There was a decent "Serenade" project game in the Pinfest flea market area back in May. I'm kicking myself for not grabbing it. There was also an outstanding "Viking" on the show floor which I assumed was not for sale, but it was. Some lucky guy got them both. I believe he's here on Pinside.

#11255 5 years ago

Ack, I miss it! Such a great art package and bordering on brutal gameplay. Looks like it's getting all the love it deserves. It's always fun to see one of my old favorites in your collection of great games.

I got the jet bumpers back on there yesterday. lol

18 innings of baseball on the garage TV was plenty of time to get the rest of Serenade back together last night, with a few innings to spare.

An unannounced double-header!

That was a heck of a game!

Brought this Harbor Lites project home a couple weeks ago. Included animal nests and duct tape covering the gobble hole. Here are the before and after pics.

What all did you do for the playfield artwork to freshen it up? It looks good. I've got a Lady Robinhook in queue and any suggestions or tips you've got would be great.

Regards.

Hi Pencilneck
Lots and lots of elbow grease. I actually peeled off the duct tape at the sellers house before I bought it. I figured if removing the tape also took the playfield paint with it, I didn't want the game. Luckily it didn't, but took forever to remove the dried on adhesive without destroying the playfield paint. I used WD40 and lots of rubbing to remove the duct take residue. I use a spray foam cleaner/disinfectant to remove dirt on the playfield, then denatured alcohol and magic eraser to clean old wax and ball swirls. Finally I use Novus 2 then Mother's Carnuba Wax.

The playfield is yellowed, but I like that patina. Heck, the game is 62 years old! Not sure how this came from the factory. I think the yellowing is from a coat of lacquer (or varnish of some kind). Not sure if that was done at the factory, or someone in years past brushed the playfield with a clear of something that has yellowed. Anyway, I thought it cleaned up nicely, and it is surprisingly fun to play!

Jumped in 4 months ago with my first machine. #Blue Chip and #Triple Strike were from individual sellers, #Flip Flop from an estate sale and Honey picked up at the York show by my wife as a birthday present for our one year old grand daughter! Time to slow down and shine these up a little.

Nice games. Filp Flop was one of my favorites when I had one. Game play is great and the backglass is fun.

Picked up this "Bowling Queen" last week. It's the fourth one I've owned.
Sold two in the past. This one needs the correct bumpers installed and this will be my keeper. Always loved the gameplay, it's such a colorful game.

Looks nice JR; I saw the last one you had and thought that one was nice, but this is looking even better, good luck with the shop job.

Another Bally pickup this week... never had this game before but did play it on route when I was a young pup... looking forward to getting this beast running 100%... nice unmolested condition. Love the Home Amusement sticker on the tray - bought my first EM from this company back in 1986 and still have it today.

Well, mine had some small STP stickers on the door, but they're now history! Funny that yours has a single coin chute. I've never seen one like that.
What's your serial number? Mine is a pretty low number. Despite it having the wrong bumpers installed, the guy gave me the original daisy caps, and they are the
domed type. My other "Bowling Queen" machines had the flat slanted top caps.

#11279 5 years ago

Serial number 02397. This is what the door looked like when I got it. It also had a Bally shooter rod on it. All fixed now. The metal posts are the early type with the hollow base which are installed over a washer.

Sort of a barn find...pole barn actually. No mice! Picked it up about 1.5 years ago. I know many like the soft lights on the older machines, but the red, white, and blue colors just look more 'true' with the bright whites.

I've had this Hokus Pokus for a few months, and thanks in large part to the helpful folks at Pinside, it is now pretty much at 100% (minus some sockets that need to be repaired/replaced). Could have never done it without all the help - thanks.

Just bought this from a local friend. Nice to get an EM that doesn't require 40 hours of work to get playing. This one is turnkey!

Anyone know anything about these or the value? Got an opportunity to buy four of them.

I think this qualifies as an em? Although made in 1996. Just picked up last night. Oh, it’s a Hallmark Snowball Blaster.

I have the Darts version of the same thing. I paid 25 bucks. maybe worth about 100. The table Tennis one may be valued differently.

Ouch, buddy wanted 200 each
I think i'll pass and put the money towards a few gems I found. WMS Big Valley, Paddock, GTLB Buccaneer and Bally MiniZag. MiniZag has no backglass.

#11300 5 years ago

I had to have this gem ... Don't see these pop up often.
