It was wood painted red. I stripped it and painted it blue to better match my colour scheme. Have no idea if was stock.

I picked this game up almost 15 years ago. It was one of my first pinball machines I ever bought. I think I paid $150 back then. I remember I got it mostly working all those years ago, but being new to Pinball, some of its issues were a little above my head at the time—so into the crawl space “storage” of the basement it went.
Over Christmas break this year, between getting the stomach flu and a head cold, I managed to clean up the ‘ole basement just enough to make room for one more game and pull it out for the first time since I bought it all those years ago. It still looks pretty good, and it mostly works, but it’ll need to be gone through.
I’ve always liked the artwork on the game: Frankenstein, Laurel and Hardy, references to Gone with the Wind... it’s a delight to look at, but a bummer to play. That “STAR” feature is neat. Once. Then it’s just a waste. Much too easy to rack up piles of bonus points, and once the 4 targets are down, the game becomes a ghost town. Oh well. She’ll probably stick around for a while for the sake of nostalgia, then off to someone’s else’s collection.
Funny thing about this era of Chicago Coin games: the chime unit is literally just a door bell. DING DONG DING DONG. Every. Single. Point.
Just picked up my first pinball a couple weeks ago. A friend asked me to look at a paragon to see if it was worth buying. While talking to the owner of the game he told me had had an older pinball if I wanted to look at it. Said that the pinball was stuck somewhere in the game and a floor fan had burned part of the cabinet. Everything powered up,perfect backglass, decent playfield, pinball missing and slightly damaged cabinet. Price = Free $3 pinball and the cabinet is almost fixed already. Plays 100%

Yea, repairing these games can take away from other projects, but
at least once you have the Game Room completed, you'll have working
pieces to put in it..
I've been working on the Time Trials (car race game), and now putting
a little time in a stand up grip tester. This is the time of the year that
I enjoy working on the machines.. (T)

sure thing. I still have to fix some scoring issues that the game has had since before I got it. No-one has noticed them, but it doesn't score properly.

That's at least half of the fun of this hobby for me: Seeing the fruits of your labor literally come back to life, and being able to revive a something that's been dead for years and years. It's like reviving a small window of nostalgia and americana each time one is brought back to life. I know pinball machines were only designed to be operated for a rather short amount of time, but their build quality is excellent. How many things in this day and age will still be working and repairable 40+ years from now? Very few, I'd imagine.
Just in today, long time favorite and finally I snagged one! Put it together, fired it up and played. Got excited and tilted the last ball.
Plays much better than the one I played in Asbury Park a few years ago and that one interested me enough to buy one.
So need to clear it, LED it and paint the cabinet.

Looks to be in better shape than most I see. Especially the playfield - usually the paint is wore to the wood in places (sometimes big areas).

The game is quite original. The kickouts after much use over 68 years wear a pair of tracks or grooves and this has been touched up. The game was well set up by the previous owner and quite lively. Need to check if the game shuts off when all 5 balls are played.
Other than that my scores are deteriorating as usual as I get used to the game and I stop concentrating.

A couple of months ago I found this Genco 1950 Flying Saucers in an old barn in the south of Belgium. It had been asleep for many years, maybe even decades! Nowadays it plays really well. Need to restore the outside of cabinet. Almost all pinballs I ever bought in Belgium had been painted over.

It's a generic door Here's a qoute from IPDB description of Southern Belle"and indeed the flyer shows the game with the same generic door.

Actually I'm kind of lucky the holes are all in the door because a few year later Gottlieb moved the coin holes above the door into the cabinet.

I like that idea, the legs are made of good solid oak I believe. The grain has swollen and cracked the paint, so I am considering sanding off the paint and sealing the wood. I like to use a hemp-oil wood sealer. It's locally made and doesn't smell, get sticky and cures quickly.

If you are really lucky maybe original cabinet paint underneath the re-paint so strip carefully to see if it is.
With some games coming and others going, here is my current lineup (also have a KOD in the room next door). Pay special attention to the King Pin which I just picked up from Nic. Very nice with clear coated playfield, beautiful back glass, 'cabaret' light modification, etc. I have it dialed in to the angle and speed I want and it is a blast to play.

Hi Shapeshifter, unfortunately a high quality car paint was used, so it's almost impossible to get it off. But I've dealt with that problem before. I'll restore it next spring

Yes the original paint is still there so I can reconstruct the graphics!
