Quoted from o-din:No overlay boilerman. Is there one on yours? I see you do have the proper flipper rubbers.
Please don't offer this for sale as don't want any temptations right now

odin i do have the overlay, my pf was hand painted. i will post a before picture. you sure yours doesn't have an overlay? it looks to good to be orginial. pull one of the post on the lower sling area the bright salmon color should be under it, not the faded color around it. you will see a difference in color due to the post protecting the color from fade
i tried the double rings on the flippers but could not stand the look of it.i have seen people use the flat red rubber too and it does not look right either. but that is just me and i am no purest just did not like the look.
Easy to see o-din's is original but may have a little touch-up. Very nice. That playfield overlay is nice. Who makes that Boilerman?
i did not zoom in on the pf but just took another look and i can see some graining so it is a pretty nice oem pf. they were played to hell and most have wear.
here is the overlay

very nice quality reverse printed on mylar plays fast. i looked for a decent one for a long time and never did find one so i went with the overlay. worked out great.
That overlay is nice to have available. It would be nicer if they were available for more titles. No, mine is indeed original with a few touch-ups. When I first saw the add, I was sure it had been repainted and restored like the Buckaroo. But when I zoomed in I couldn't believe what I saw. i saw touch-ups on the cabinet. That's when I knew this was a special machine. The play meter shows around 54,000, and I'm guessing that it never turned over.
Don't worry Shapeshifter, I plan on caring for this one for a long time.

I would keep it as well as rare to find in such nice condition
54000 makes sense. 54000 on a Gottlieb 61-67 seems to have minor impact on the p/f as they were made so well.
54000 on a 70's game and they usually look way more worn as the quality was in decline.
Enjoy your game
The Buckaroo's playfield is not too shabby either. it is also in very nice original condition. The inside of the machine however is not as clean.
Your 2 new additions are coming along nicely. K&Q is my favorite 60's game with KOD right behind it.
The abra cabinet has been "touched up" maroon color was painted by hand with a brush. Backglass is more than top notch. It really is perfect. There is a little burn marks on the back where the score reel lites are. No flaking and bright vibrant colors. Funny because about three weeks ago I pulled the trigger on a new repro from bgresto. The fireman picked it up for me at expo. I'll see it tomorrow.
hoov, welcome aboard ... really nice c37!!
and I've always liked the glass and plastics art on the snow derby (would be a nice partner with funland I've always thought)
Quoted from Astropin:My first EM - an (HUO) 1971 Gottlieb Roller Coaster. Picked it up on Saturday.
I would like a video of this pin in action. Wire forms in 1971. Ya. I know that wire forms were used much earlier, like in the 30's & 40's. Have a great time with this pin.
Quoted from manitouguy:I think there is at least one vid on you tube if I recall
Yep! there are 3 videos on You Tube. For Roller Coaster. The rotating target that is moved by the ball, I have seen before. Thanks, Astropin for the Post.
Quoted from Pafasa:All three in the back of my grand caravan!
Nice score! Like the custom tie-down strap container.

Thanks. There was a Funland at EXPO over the weekend. 1st time I played it.

Welcome to the club!
Safest way to hit that lower bullseye target is backhand. Don't let the Open Elbow get you when trying to cradle on the right flipper though.

Thanks for the tip on the lower bullseye. Jacks Open took me to school on the open elbow several years ago.
Hey Pafasa, I met ovdfireman at EXPO and John Fetters sold me the game. You know these guys?
The fireman is my best friend. Close to 20 years. Wish I could have gone to Expo this year. He and I made the previous two years together but I screwed up this year and used up too much of my vacation time from work. Next year will be different. I'll be there.
Don't think I know John Fetters unless I know him through pinside under a different name.
Greg picked up a couple backglasses for me from Steve Azzam of BGRESTO.COM.
One C37 and one ACD. I'll see them tonight and get pics. The cool thing is the fact that the glass is perfect on the ACD i just picked up yesterday. Some side by side pics of those two glasses will be pretty neat. I'll post them here.

Cool. I get my Abra back I sold to a guy eight years ago this winter sometime when I can get a game shopped to trade him.

I may have an extra glass if you end up needing it.
I posted my C37 playfield resto way back in this thread.
Over the last week, I spent some time freshening up the cabinet. I had some badly faded pinks.
Here are some shots of my progress.
Hopefully this will all be buttoned up within the next week. Playfield re-assembly starts today.

I shouldn't because the glass in the game I sold to him was very nice but thanks for the offer.

How did you prep the surface for the paint? Care to share the paint colors you chose?

The wire forms are pretty cool on this. They really accelerate the ball to the flipper and if you are not ready for it, it could drain on you.
The trick to big scores is all in getting the pointer aimed at 400 or 500

I had no issue with my yellows and left them alone; and the base cabinet was in really nice shape... I only shot the pink.
All I did was clean the surface really well... even used some magic eraser and alcohol for really grimy parts. I let it dry, traced and cut the stencils in the meantime, and then shot the paint.
Finding a pink to match was tough. I usually like the Krylon brand but it looked like crap on this project. The finish was uneven when dry and the color was just a little too fusia. Anyway, I did find an artists spray paint at my local art supply store but don't recall the name. I will update this reply tonight once I get home. It dried much more evenly and was a lot closer to the original.
Another way to even everything out is to add a clear coat. (I use semi-gloss varathane) over everything. Will add a bit of protection to your paint as well. Of course I clean the entire thing first.

Here is the paint I found for my Centigrade 37 cabinet.
it went down much better than any other brand I have used and the finish is bang on. The colour is a touch hotter than the original... but who can truly tell with all the years of fade. I just stenciled each side and re-did all of the pink for a perfect look.
The brand is Plutonium and the color used was "VEGAS".
0V06968000000-ST-02-Plutonium.jpgThanks for sharing Drano! Searching now for my own plutonium. I wonder if Michael J. Fox has any left???
Quoted from Pafasa:Check these out. I didn't think I would like captain fantastic but the more I study this backglass, the more I think I'll like the game.
It's hard to tell from the pic, but it looks like you may have one of those rare x-rated glasses without the extra stars. hard to tell when I zoom in. I'm not really sure x-rated was appropriate. I'd give it a GP rating.
Quoted from Pafasa:Drano, did you buy a set of spray caps or did the can come with one? What cap did you use?
Just used what came with the can... but they do sell others separately. I wasn't crazy about the cap TBH. Seemed to clog up and spraying upside down did nothing. Krylon's new caps are the best... but the paint just didn't do it for me.

Wonder how I can research this. I wasn't aware that there were larger or smaller stars. Just thought the stars were added after the fact to "cover up" some inappropriate images. Hmmmm.....
Quoted from Pafasa:I wasn't aware that there were larger or smaller stars.
Not larger or smaller, just more to cover up a few things that the Bally brass weren't too impressed with. The story goes that Dave Christensen had a habit of pushing the envelope and sneaking little subtleties in on his artwork that usually went unnoticed until the machine was in production, but this time they caught on early.
A friend of mine was collecting his artwork for a while, which is how I ended up with several of his machines. He did however hang on to his rare x-rated back glass though.
I still have two of Dave Christensen's machines that are my favorites of his- Fireball and Bon Voyage, which has quite a few subtleties of it's own.
