Just like the subject says. Show us your EMs! Show us those shiny Ems that you spent hours restoring. Show us the rare EM that you spent 10 years tracking down a pristine example of. Show us that game that you played as a child/teenager/young adult that you just had to have. Best of all show us your EM pride!

#17 10 years ago
Quoted from Mr68:

This is my EM baby. O-din stole my other child...
Playfield has been clear coated and its perfect to this day.
Kim

OMG that C-37 is like pinball porn. I feel like I just found my Dad's old stash of 70's stag mags. That thing is beautiful!

Quoted from MrBally:

This one took me 18 years to find:

4 Queens looks cool. I have never heard of one let alone played one.

Atlantis is on loan too me by Xerico Pinball (pinsider) and Abra-Ca-Dabra will get a full resto a few months from now.

Quoted from Dayhuff:

Here's a few quick shots of mine.
John P. Dayhuff
Battle Creek, MI.

Dayhuff...Nice Canada Dry and rare Charlie's Angels EM

Quoted from BenetBoy78:

The Frontiersman and Daisy May are unmatched and gave the players the same feeling in 1954-56 as AC/DC does today. Pinball.....it's timeless.

Nice Woodrails!

Oh Dr. Joe! I love Slick Chick! It is on my gotta have list.

5280wzrd..Nice Buccaneer!

Garrett : I recently got to play a Cleopatra EM and loved it!

Stevens: Your machines are a true work of art! I love the Flying Carpet resto! So salmon pink!

Tallblonde: Use Simple Green (full strength) and a Magic Eraser (get them both at Walmart) Use it slowly at first inch by inch and start with an area that is inconspicuous first. Use shop towels wipe it clean. You will be shocked at how much dirt and nicotine comes out of the original paint. Just go slow and rub lightly in 1-2 inch patches at a time.

O-din: I have to agree. I looked through all 15 pages of the EM forums and couldn't believe someone hadn't started a thread like this already.

Everyone else: I love all the posts! Keep them coming! I love getting on pinside and seeing this thread full of cool pics.

#74 10 years ago
Quoted from Drano:

Bummer, had this thread come out in a year or so, I could show off my wedgehead lineup.
I bought each machine to be fully restored and I'm working my way trough them... starting with C37. Just applying the final clearcoat this week.
The others are El Dorado, Spin Out, Jacks Open and Volley.
All are folded up or in pieces right now. I'm in the process of moving.
Kim, that's a beauty!
My first EM and still my favorite!

Well you know this thread will still be here and you can show them off one by one as you complete them.

#92 10 years ago
Quoted from o-din:

So why are the pics blowing up to monster size?

Because EMs are the best and they are bigger than life!

#101 10 years ago

Connect your phone to your computer.
Copy the files over to your computer hard drive.
Use "Windows Photo Viewer" to flip them the right way.
Post them again.

#120 10 years ago
Quoted from o-din:

Didn't they have barbers back then?

He needed the money to play Pinball.

#135 10 years ago

Man! Everyone has a C-37 in this thread. I need to join the C-37 club soon!

#140 10 years ago
Quoted from John_I:

Here is a small row of classics:

You gotta love it.... jack in the box.... ACDC PREMIUM.......quick draw

LOL! Nice collection! I love Jack In the Box!

#146 10 years ago
Quoted from Juggernaut:

Just a little over a year into the hobby,
four of my six machines.

Yeah...I am drooling! Very nice pins Juggernaut!

#178 10 years ago

EM-PINMAN...Nice lineup especially the SO '76 and Space Mission/Odyssey.
Jasonsmith...Cool game. I would love to have that game next to a 74 Gottlieb Skyjump even though I am not a skydiver, because I just love the theme.

I feel like my head is going to explode like the guy in scanners because of all the nice pictures of C-37.

#195 10 years ago

*WARNING* I have never tried this myself. I hear there is a method where you take the playfield out. Turn the playfield upside down. C-clamp (gently) a piece of used clean glass to the insert you are trying to level. Use a heat gun on the bottom side of the insert to flatten it out against the glass. I have never tried this. Maybe people will chime in on any success rate with trying this method. If I were to try this myself I would try it on a trashed playfield project to get some practice. As for clearcoating....there is a method to clearcoating where it looks "matte" instead of looking like an over-glossed bowling lane. Others may or may not chime in or may just PM you with a cost to do such a restoration. My Abra-Ca-Dabra will be going through a "matte" finish where there is traction for the ball to grab onto something instead of sliding around like a piece of glass.

#219 10 years ago

PT : That Outer Space playfield looks beautiful. All the examples I have ever seen are worn to crap. Nice machine!

Stevens : Hi Diver is a neat machine. I got to play one years ago at Fabulous Fantasies showroom floor in Los Angeles.

#224 10 years ago
Quoted from boilerman:

el dorado is a great game but it is not my top 3 3"wedgeheads
1-atlantis
2-jacks open
3 abra ca dabra
4-el dorado
I have wanted one for a long time but can not find one or I am to late or they want more than it is worth to me.
When you can not have something you tend to want it more
I just got a basket case el dorado but when i'm done it will be a very nice players machine
but really want a nice one to add to my 19 other wedgeheads

Boiler, our taste in pins are almost exactly the same.
I want in the following order
1. Abra-Ca-Dabra (acquired)
2. C-37
3. Atlantis
4. El Dorado
5. Sky Jump

#233 10 years ago

That Strange World looks cool! I have never seen or played one before. They must be pretty rare. What is like to play and do you have more pics of it?

#239 10 years ago

I figured it was time to bump this thread to get more pictures posted.

#251 10 years ago

I figured I would bump this thread to keep it active. Hopefully you guys will check out this forum as well and review some of your favorite EMs.

#260 10 years ago
Quoted from John_in_NC:

Here are a couple of my restores.

Oooooooo...Shiny!

#274 10 years ago
Quoted from o-din:

And then some!
It has it's own special spot. Now the TV room has been invaded. Who watches TV anyway?

Man that thing is beautiful! Who do I have to have sex with to get a EM Joker Poker like that?! Jeesh! That thing looks like it was taken out of the box and forgotten about for 34-35 years. Did anyone ever play the damn thing? Man I am so jealous! Congratulations!

#275 10 years ago
Quoted from John_in_NC:

Here's another shot of El Dorado and World Fair along with one of the two Spin Wheel's I restored.

I would have sold a kidney to have an El Dorado that looks like that!

#277 10 years ago
Quoted from hoov:

o-din,
No wonder you were so excited to get that. That would be a holy grail pin to me.

They would have to pry the flipper buttons from my cold lifeless hands before I would part with that machine.

#299 10 years ago
Quoted from John_in_NC:

Seeing these is nearly motivating me to finish this...

John, this is a machine I don't get to see very often. I am loving the restore. It looks fabulous!

#314 10 years ago
Quoted from boilerman:

fathers day bump...

So perty!
I would like to hump your Sky Jump. LOL! What a nice line of pins! Looks like the flies love your 2001.

#331 10 years ago

Bring on the pictures! Encore!

#343 10 years ago
Quoted from pbkzo:

Here are some of them. Mostly 50s and 60s.

Now thats a "Stairway to Heaven" encore! *lights lighter* Slick Chick and Knockout in the same room. What more could you ask for?

#344 10 years ago
Quoted from hoov:

For the sake of keeping this thread going here's a couple more pics.......

Hoov that is a beautiful Queen of Diamonds. I almost bought one back in 1998. I ended up buying a Bank-A-Ball instead.

#348 10 years ago
Quoted from hoov:

You did good. I personally think the 50's games are better to look at but the classic 60's Bank a Ball that you bought is more fun to play. JMHO though.......

That is exactly the way I felt at the time. I wish I still owned the Bank-A-Ball... Oh well, I will have it back someday.

#353 10 years ago
Quoted from ReallifePin:

I can see where you're coming from but picture yourself in that room and tell me you'd see anything but those machines.

Exactly. There could be somebody panhandling. I could be standing in 4 inches of mud and I wouldn't notice.

#364 10 years ago
Quoted from BenetBoy78:

Hey Rat,
Should we vote? This is the best collection so far, IMHO.

Benet, I like them all. I don't want to say I have favorites because I don't want to discourage other people's posting of pictures. Everyone has different likes and dislikes. Someone's Mona Lisa might be another person's Medusa and vice versa.

#365 10 years ago
Quoted from johnf:

Some pictures of the telecard didn't upload, here they are. Looking back at the pictures, I should have kept it.

Johnf, thanks for sharing. I love the restores you did on both games.

#371 10 years ago
Quoted from Pafasa:

I'm sure I'm missing something here.......

He is quoting from song and albums of Frank Zappa. Frank Zappa is the musician featured in my avatar.

#382 10 years ago

I am in the minority of liking replay games better than AAB. When I play a game I want to barely light the special on the 4th or 5th ball. I want to earn that knocker or get close to the knocker so I want to play that 15th game in a row. I want to flip the score reel with 5 balls not 9 balls.

#414 10 years ago

Bumping this thread to see some more juicy pictures of EM Machines aka "Pinball Porn"

#422 10 years ago

I would have taken the Space Mission in a heart beat and bought a repro backglass. Too far away.

#440 10 years ago

Weekend BUMP! Lets see more EM candy!

#447 10 years ago

Dirt...I have a special request. Some nice pictures of the Kings and Queens in the background. I love Kings and Queens!
PT...Holy SNIKES! Brand new playfield! Lookin nice! Is that NOS or repro? Doesn't matter either way. Just looks so nice!

#451 10 years ago

Closer Clarise! CLOSER!

#453 10 years ago
Quoted from manitouguy:

here is a pic with my beautiful new Eldorado in part of the lineup

Pinball porn! That '75 El Dorado. One of these days I will have one.

#463 10 years ago

Nice score! Can't wait to see how the playfield cleans up. I see Magic Eraser, Simple Greenand 91% Alcohol in your future.

#470 10 years ago

Unfortunately almost every Williams game from that era had some kind of spinner in the middle.

#473 10 years ago

Go to internet pinball database and type "Williams" in the advance search box along with specified dates of 1965-1970 and look at each game. Most likely 12 games for each year produced. It will be fun to look at because you will see games that you have long forgotten about since you were a teenager.

#484 10 years ago
Quoted from ReallifePin:

Not mine but my uncles machine we got running again this weekend. 1966 Williams Hot Line.

Is it fun to play?

Quoted from Pafasa:I agree. Thanks to Rat for starting this thread!
Following this thread motivated me to go after this pin. I am looking forward to cleaning it up and playing a bunch. Now I have two Wedgeheads and two early SS Williams AND I have a third wedge in my sights. Sweet Hearts! It is in bad shape. Playfield glass is broken and game has been sitting in a garage/shed for years. Lots of dirt and flying bugs been in there. The backglass is about 1/3 gone as best as I can tell. I am going to ramp up my efforts on the owner and see what I can accomplish. I'm thinking of offering $50 because I know what I'll have to put into it just to get it to play again!

Pafasa, I am very happy that this thread has made you want to buy up some EMs If this thread made that ONE person buy an EM or two then part of the mission of this thread has been accomplished.

#486 10 years ago

You will find tons of them in Missouri.

#539 10 years ago

I am getting a Gottlieb Spirit of 76 soon. Just agreed to the price today and they agreed to the wait of 4-8 weeks of waiting for the funds.(insurance settlement) The pin looks very cherry from the pictures I looked at.

#564 10 years ago
Quoted from o-din:

Welcome back Rat!, was wondering where you were.

My newest purchase (a 65" top end Samsung TV) has kept me rather busy. Recuperating from my car accident is easier on the couch in front of my new TV instead of standing on injured hips playing pinball or even sitting in a computer chair. Thanks for welcoming me back. It is nice to be back.

#575 10 years ago

Nice machines Wizzardz and sjohn. Bumptiy bump...I love seeing those machines.

#599 10 years ago
Quoted from o-din:

Always nice to hear from you Rat. How's the recuperating going?

Feeling good O-DIN! Within a month or less you should see me posting one or two EM machines that will end up in my collection. Haven't decided what yet but definitely a Spirit of 76 someone is holding for me.

#672 10 years ago

Man all those pics of Jacks Open makes me wish I had one. O-din nice score on that Fireball (I'm jelly) I miss my Fireball. Thanks guys for posting more pics this week. I go away for a week and come back to some fantastic pics of EM LOVE.

Jason that collection is amazing. They look so nice a pretty with the lights on don't they? I love my Abra-Ca-Dabra and would never part with it. That picture makes me want a Jet Spin.

Quoted from Pafasa:

RAT!!! where did you go? How have you been? I definitely noticed your absence and am glad to see you back. Got me an ACD while you were gone. Still in transit (sort of) but I own it! Really looking forward to playing.

I have been lurking here and there. I have been just waiting for my insurance settlement so I can pick out a new EM or two and restore my ACD.

Boilerman...I want that Slick Chick! I would pay top dollar for it.

#909 10 years ago
Quoted from boilerman:

#1047 10 years ago

I just want to bump one of the coolest threads ever to the top.

#1058 10 years ago

Very nice machines Nick! Thank you for sharing.

#1060 10 years ago

Nick, The prices quoted on that sight are just beyond stupid. I can see why you guys import machines. 3500 quid for a Gottlieb Atlantis??!! WTF moment. That is 7k American! I could get 3 Atlantis's in better condition for that price.

#1061 10 years ago

6000 quid for a Kings and Queens? What planet is this guy on???

#1071 10 years ago

To quote the movie "Oliver"....

"Please sir may I have some more" (pinball pictures)

1 week later
#1076 10 years ago

Only 170 EM Mata Hari's made. Nice CPR playfield.

#1078 10 years ago

I will help you move it.....to my house in Texas.

Very nice machine!

#1082 10 years ago

Man you guys don't miss a thing. I have an Atlantis being stored at my house where it has been since April (almost 7 months now) We have beat each other up over the price. It may end up with me or it may not end up with me. He is in no hurry to get it back right now and I am in no hurry to pay him for it right now. The inserts are cupped badly where it traps the ball.
My pecking order for money is the following...
1.) When two pins (EMs) I purchased show up I will see if there is anything I need to fix or restore. I will reveal the two pins I got in a week and a half when they arrive. (There shouldn't be anything. Both are collector quality)
2.) New backglass for Abra-Ca-Dabra...trading the old one in + cash to a friend for the repro (150 dollars)(it's a maybe deal)
3.) Repaint on Abra-Ca-Dabra (500 dollars approx)
4.) Abra-Ca-Dabra, New coin door, legs, shooter assembly, and anything else metal. (300-400 dollars)
5.) New plastics for Abra-Ca-Dabra from Australia. (150 dollars)
6.) Debating if I want to touch up, level inserts and have a light clear coat done to Abra-Ca-Dabra (500+200 for shipping back and forth)
7.) Then I buy Atlantis....LOL (price undisclosed)

Atlantis needs the following...repaint (500+100 for stencil) touchups and clearcoat 500+

#1089 10 years ago

Thank you Easter Bunny...I mean Dave....Bawk Bawk!!

#1090 10 years ago
Quoted from AlexF:

I'm guessing the shippers just picked up Rat's Slick Chick? Lucky dude.

I would have never found that perfect Gottlieb Jungle without Dave's Help.

#1100 10 years ago

Here's the pin I am getting in a few days. I can't wait!

114175-i.jpg114175-i.jpg
#1102 10 years ago

Touch up? I like original condition.

#1104 10 years ago

It effects the natural cupping effect.

#1113 10 years ago

Long live EMs! Gotta bump this thread!

#1123 10 years ago

I had no idea Golden Arrow had one of those big 1960's 100 point gong type bells in the back. Pretty sweet!

#1126 10 years ago

I have never heard of any 70's machines with a big 50's / 60's bell. So at first I thought you had bells hooked up instead of the typical xylophone chimes. I like it!

#1128 10 years ago

I am BROKE! LOL. Wish I had more money. I had to spend 2200 on a Washer/ dryer and that new expensive Dyson Vacuum. I had to keep the wife happy.

#1131 10 years ago

Odin, that thing is a work of art! Congratulations!

#1141 10 years ago
Quoted from boilerman:

someone here will be getting a new pin in a few days

As I write this the pin that Boilerman sold me is 8 hours away on the truck in Memphis, TN. That means my new pin will be in the Dallas area at 8:30am CST. Man I hope they actually deliver the machine today instead of dropping it off at a warehouse and then delivering it the next day.

#1146 10 years ago
Quoted from Pin-it:

Screw Dyson this is better. @ 4m22s
» YouTube video

We have a pond in the back. We have a pool and a pond. The pond would be good for you.

#1147 10 years ago
Quoted from boilerman:

they will take it to the warehouse then call to set up a delivery date. you might have it by monday if you are lucky.
i hate knowing it is here but i don't have it yet.
enjoy it dan! i miss it already (seller's remorse)

Yeah it is in Irving. I wish I could just pick the thing up at their warehouse. The anticipation is driving me nuts!

#1154 10 years ago
Quoted from Pin-it:

Christmas comes early.

I tell ya! I feel like I am 8 or 9 again and waiting for that toy I wanted all year. In this case it was a 15 year want.

#1156 10 years ago

My tongue is still stuck to the pole.

Actually at 40 years old I am more like the Dad in the movie waiting on the leg lamp. "Fra...GEEE. Laay! Must be Italian." My woman would be the typical wife that would knock over the leg lamp.

#1165 10 years ago

Gov that is a great title and tons of fun! You couldn't have picked a better title to start an EM collection with. The best part is...it's a 2 player! Easy to work on. I look forward to the thread you start with people helping you with any troubles. It is always nice to get someone converted over to buying EMs.

#1169 10 years ago

Get the following from Steve at PBR right away
On this page...
http://www.pbresource.com/tools.html

order a flexstone the one that is 1.66 get a couple of them.
Get the metal contact file ( or buy the the small file from an autoparts store for 5 bucks. Or you can get a pack of them at Home Depot for 10 bucks)
Rubber Light bulb remover (save your hands or you could just use the rubber tip of the shooter. (trick I learned))
Light socket cleaning stick is a must for those flakey / crusty bulb sockets that flicker.
L-contact adjuster. A MUST! get 2 or 3 of them because the break easy. You will be using this the most of all the tools.

#1171 10 years ago

EMs are addictive once you have one that works well and plays well.

#1172 10 years ago

I took some better pictures of my Abra Ca Dabra tonight with a nicer camera. I felt the need to share.
Zoom in on them and you can really see the detail.

Yup everything is working with the exception of one socket on one of the 1 point roll over buttons. I will figure it out today. I am having too much fun playing it right now.

#1200 10 years ago

Hoov swap the parts on the bottom of the playfield. Don't deal witht he drilled hold and contact paper. It will be more difficult but more rewarding in the end. Oh and congratulations on the score.

#1209 10 years ago

Very very nice machine you got there...Welcome to the EM club!

LOL at the hand print comments. I spent time under each one making sure they were level. I had to move and re-arrange them around to my liking. A big thanks to one of my friends that spend the day helping me pick up the Card Whiz at the STI terminal. Again they sat on my machine for over 24 hours without calling me for a delivery. We ate pizza and had a blast! Thanks for all the nice comments guys! BTW I still have room for 2 more machines in this room and then I have a whole other bedroom (nursery size) that will fit another 3 or 4 machines.

#1239 10 years ago

Hahaha. Funny you should say this. I did the math...6 in one bedroom, 3 in another bedroom not being used, 3 in my computer room, 4 in my dining room that doesn't get used and then after that I could move the TV and couch across the room to the other side of the living room to make room for another 4 machines. In my master bedroom I have room for 1 machine near my side of the bed = room for 21 machines. LOL. My wife would tolerate maybe 12-16 of them. The first 9 would see no resistance since we never have guests since our immediate families live a long way away. Mine are 1800 miles away in California and Ohio. My wife's relatives live in Hawaii. We have no kids or I would make them sleep on the porch.

#1240 10 years ago

Can't do that car outside the garage. I don't feel like hail damage on my car. Even thought that could be another 15 machines. LOL!

#1242 10 years ago

I have a King Kong, a Krull, a Lochness Monster.....

#1252 10 years ago
Quoted from o-din:

Baby can wait.

My wife is 48 years old. I don't see any babys in our future. I also hope that I never have someone 18-22 years old look for his long lost father either.

#1254 10 years ago
Quoted from o-din:

I wouldn't mind having someone 18-22 years young looking for me.

Brian, I wonder about you sometimes.

#1258 10 years ago

So O-din what you're really trying to say is......

#1266 10 years ago

This is how you show off one of my favorite Classic Rock groups "Free"

#1275 10 years ago

I have 800 cds of Classic Rock that I will never part with. I sold my LPs in 1987 and I regret doing so. I have all of my cds converted to Flac files as well on my computer.

#1320 10 years ago

I have the Black Sabbath "Black Box" with the first 8 albums remastered. 20 bit? 24bit? (too lazy to look) Some people in the music forums I am in say that they are too "hot" in the mastering. I have listened too these cds for about 9 or 10 years now and I like them. The first thing I did when I got the box set is throw trade in the crappy 1980's 16 bit masters that sound like ass. The Heaven and Hell box set of Dio's Black Sabbath years sounds okay still miles better than the 16 bit masterings. I just wish Warner Brothers and Rhino would master shit properly like Columbia / Epic Legacy and Universal Music does. My Frank Zappa remasters sound absolutely amazing. (Universal Music) My Kansas, Cheap Trick, Heart, Mountain remasters sound amazing.

#1321 10 years ago

Vic you have an absolutely amazing collection. One of these days I hope to have a bigger collection of EMs

#1325 10 years ago
Quoted from Vic_Camp:

Dan...thanks for the compliment. I am still upgrading my collection and only have two games left with painted cabinets but the rest of them are all original condition and very low plays.
Good luck on your growing collection.

Bank A Ball and KOD should be easy to find in unmolested condition. I prefer the repaints (shrug) but I am one of those 5 per centers that prefers them that way.

Vic I am shocked that you don't have your Atlantis that you sold. I am also surprised you don't own a Slick Chick or an Abra-Ca-Dabra

#1330 10 years ago

Vic, Abra-Ca-Dabra is very addictive and goes well with Atlantis and El Dorado for a '75 wedgehead trifecta. Abra-Ca-Dabra can be had for about 700-1000 dollars in unmolested condition. (I don't mention Spin Out because I feel it is meh) You make the first person I have encountered that didn't care for Slick Chick. I also wish you had more room because your amazing collection would then get bigger.

#1346 10 years ago

ABCD is just cool with the game play. This game will leave you one away from the special and you saying "One more game!" The artwork is beautiful. Yes I am biased because I own one. Team One is just plain funky. And the AAB makes it even funkier.

#1349 10 years ago

I think a Kings and Queens or El Dorado are next on my list followed closely by a 2001.

I didn't know you had a time machine. We missed the unboxing.

#1458 10 years ago

You are now in a controlled environment of your house where you may turn the machine on for 30 min at a time a few times a week. At the most you leave it on for 3-4 hours during a party once or twice a year. Maybe you bring it to a pinball show once or twice in your lifetime of owning it. It simply should be left alone unless it was flaking to begin with. With pinball the general rule if it works then leave it alone. I have learned this the hard way. We all learn. I know I learned from Hoov's post on how TT a back glass if I absolutely have to.

#1465 10 years ago

I always love taking off the top apron and getting 35-50 years worth of dirt out of that area. It's the little details that make a pin pop. You should show off Captain Card when it is finished. Like Alex said make sure you add it to your Pinside collection.

#1533 10 years ago

Jeff, It looks like your cat is laying a deuce on your machine. LOL Looks like a fun game to play.

Dirt, Nicest Hit the Deck I have seen yet.

Ken I love that Sure Shot. Nice cosmetic updates and touch-ups. The playfield reminds me of an updated '65 Bank-A-Ball.

#1535 10 years ago

I like 2" and 3" games. Depends on the game really. I like the idea of 3 inch bats on the Sure Shot and those kick out holes. I also love the backglass all lit up. I might search for that title later on in 2014. They do seem to pop up a lot on ebay.

#1557 10 years ago

Ohio, especially Cleveland and Akron area are a treasure trove of EMs. Also check CL in neighboring states like Indiana, Michigan and Pennsylvania. I am jealous I wish I lived in Ohio where I grew up because I would have a furnished basement and EMs galore instead of having them trucked in to Texas.

It finally arrived! Thanks O-din for selling me your King of Diamonds! This thing is oh so sweet! And nope not an overlay. I am posting the good and the bad. I would give the backglass a solid 9. Cab with original paint an 8.5 to 9. I would give the playfield a solid 8.5. Very, very nice example of this game. I am very happy!

Yes it works 100% This machine is 100% of what I expected from the pictures that you took. The pictures don't do it justice. This thing looks stunning in my collection. I wanted to show the good and the bad. This is one nice survivor man! I am very happy! I just left you a voice mail about my excitement. This machine is kicking my ass! LOL. I am lucky if I break 1100 points and always left with a few targets short of a special.

#1782 10 years ago

We all agree to disagree. I took these pictures extremely close up. The yellows pop and the greens pop. The pictures I took make it look worse than what it is. This machine is never leaving my collection. This is the same machine that someone thought it had an overlay. Every last King of Diamonds I have come across in 15 years never looked as good as this one. Most were very faded playfields where the yellows had turned into a beige color. There was tons more planking and wear around inserts etc. Warped plastics, craptastic backglass repainted cabs with too much webbing. This is not perfect nor is it a collector quality. This is a player plus machine. The areas without touchups which is 90-95% of the machine is a solid 9. The small areas with problems that I took detailed photos of bring the playfield down to an 8 or an 8.5 IMHO.

Backglass-9 (no fade all original)
playfield- 8 to 8.5
cab 8.5
plastics 9 (original with nice patina. no fade, no warping)
Metal 10 (all brand new door, coin chute, legs, arch stick...all metal posts are shined to a high gloss, lock down bar is shinier than a brand new quarter)
insides are a 9 to 9.5. Every contact, gear middle hub thingy is perfect and gleams like they are new. Score motor is f#$%%$#ing amazing looking. It looks brand new. Original coin mecs look brand new.

#1945 10 years ago
Quoted from Ice9ers:

WoW! To have the EM's that some of you guys have and all looking so awesome - I'm extremely envious and thrilled that these machines have found such wonderful homes. As some of you may know, I just bought my 1st EM 2 days ago, a KOD with a pretty rough cabinet but a beautiful playfield. I'm lovin' it. Would be thrilled to have a second one - one of these days.

Be careful what you wish for Ice9ers...They multiply like rabbits. Most EMs can be had for 500-2000. Typical ones are 700-800 dollars. Projects will be 200-600 dollars. Top machines will be 1500-2000 with a few titles topping out at 2500 ish. This makes buying EMs an extreme bargain considering 90's to present machines are several thousand dollars.

Hey Hoov...NICE SCORE! That Abra is super cherry! I thought mine was nice but your's takes the cake!

That is a nice Slick Chick for sale popeboy. It has an original backglass. The only bad I see is one pop bumper is not original and some flipper drag on the right flipper.

#1979 10 years ago

Popeboy, Slick Chick is one of those special machines. It ties right up there with King of Diamonds. Both machines are pure bliss. I was born in '73 so I hear ya on the not seeing the 50's and 60's machines. A few games on Slick Chick would change your mind. You would be hooked.

#1980 10 years ago

#2273 10 years ago

Thank you alb0711. The counter on my Slick Chick has 7000 plays. People find it hard to believe but I really think this sat in some old man operator's house covered and unplayed for 30-40 years. Maybe boilerman can shed some light as to where he got it from before he sold it to me. The cab is a repaint and the backglass is a repro. The playfield is the best original playfield I will ever come across on this title. There is little to no wear under the bumpers. This playfield is a solid 9.5. It gets the "WOW" factor everytime I walk into my game room and it has been at my house for almost 5 months now.

Pafasa, The ACD's all had crappy cardboard type chipped wood underneath including mine. If I was keeping mine then I would have a friend who is a woodworker craft a new bottom for mine.

One of the very best ever. All around great pin. Wish they made an add a ball version.

If there was ever a candidate for add-a-ball this would be it. Shortest ball times ever. But all the roll overs and the skill shot is fun. Today I got all the roll overs and all the specials lit. I got the last special in the middle lit after the ball drained on the far right roll over. My final score was 655. This pin is a pain in the ass to score 1000 on. It is very very challenging.

#2483 9 years ago

I don't have enough games on it yet. I think I had a total of 20 games on it before the game shut off in the middle of a game. Something is shorting out the startup sequence and I am pretty sure I know what it is. I blew a few fuses and need to hit up Radio Shack today for the fuse I don't have a spare of. Ask me this question again in a few days.

#2486 9 years ago

jrpinball: I noticed this about the kickers. I plan to adjust the right kicker to make it more sensitive. I have the pitch set about 4%. I need to experiment and set it to the 3.5% manufactures suggestion.

btw75: Thank you for the tips.

#2488 9 years ago

It was a simple simple fix. (Thank god! *crosses fingers*) When I was starting the game it would send electricity to the secondary start (SB relay) There was a solder loose at the coil. This blew the 5 amp fuse at the transformer and one of the 10 amp fuses at the coin door. Soldered the wire back on the coil. Replaced both fuses and the machine fires up perfectly. I stocked up on 1,5 and 10 amp fuses at radio shack. Now to novus 2 and add a few coats of wax and I am off to the races!

#2507 9 years ago

I had an epic score of 1846 on my North Star tonight. I figured I would share. I put some coin taker soft white retros in the green and yellow inserts along with under the roll over buttons. (Thanks Mike-O!) I am currently in my honeymoon phase but I am liking it as much as my King of Diamonds. I don't think I like it better than my Slick Chick but it is too soon to tell. It really is a fun as hell game.

nshiscore.JPGnshiscore.JPG
#2523 9 years ago
Quoted from jrpinball:

Try putting green LEDs under the green inserts, and yellow ones under the yellow. Also a red LED under the "special" insert. They really pop that way!

I am liking the soft whites under the greens and yellows. I will definitely buy the red ones for the red inserts because right now with #47 bulbs they look pink. I will give the yellow and green LEDs a shot. What should I buy for the upper roll overs. I want them to look natural and only slightly brighter. Are there bulb shades to tone down the soft whites?

#2527 9 years ago

My main special in the center when all roll overs are lit lights up nice and red with just a #47. I will hand light it again today and let it sit on for several hours and see what happens.

#2529 9 years ago

Oh yeah I saw that resister. I will have to put a 44 bulb back in it. No wonder the red was really nice and well...RED

Coin Taker has 44/47 Red Retros that I will give a try in there anyways.

I will take that Kings and Queens off your hands when you are finished with it.

#2799 9 years ago

The problem is there are a TON of EMs for sale right now. Pinball machines are winter toys. Most people have an outdoor social life during nice weather and don't care about winter toys. Winter Toys are unloaded during the summer and vice versa. There is always an over saturation of games for sale in the summer. Keep it and sell it during TPF. The game I am seeing in the pictures is easily worth 1400-1600 to the right buyer. Your price of 1200 and then 1100 is a fire sale. I would have been jumping at the bit to buy it a year ago but now I am into the 60's games.

Hoov, that was the ABCD I bought from Ken Head 20 months ago and sold and held for EM-PINMAN. That is the one with a very very nice playfield with super bright yellows. It is the machine that got me back into pinball after a 12 years of being away from the hobby. Ken will have a very solid game for years to come. The counter had 17k plays when I got it. I put about 1k plays on it and the meter busted at 17999 for some reason. The only reason I sold it was to finance my North Star which I "had to have" I love 2 inch flippers over the 3 inch flippers.

Ken, I am glad you are in Texas. It has been so much fun to hang out with you the 3 times we have hung out so far. I look forward to a lifelong friendship.

Well I did it! I bought my 4th machine today! I bought a Central Park. I get to pick it up Tuesday evening. Playfield is a solid 9. Backglass is a 8.5 with some pin size spots missing (very easy touch ups) Cabinet is a 6. This thing needs a total repaint which will be done in January locally. Time for a 300 dollar order to PBR for a new coin door, chute, legs, etc...etc..

OMG! I must have ordered about 500 dollars worth of parts just now. If it was metal it was ordered. Legs, bolts, levelers, coin door, coin chute, flipper buttons, side rails (the ones on this one are dented to hell) A new reprofuction lock down bar with the end caps. Metal arch stick, other metal part on the other side of the arch stick, ball return bracket, and ball gate. The there was plastic....plastic monkey was cracked, pop bumper caps, new plastic bats the two lane dividers on top that look like flippers. Lane divider plastics were cracked or chipped. The plastics themselves are original and have some rub from the metal posts but they are decent. I just put in a request to Pinball rescue asking them to start making sets for Central Park / Hurdy Gurdy. Hopefully someone else has done the same or needs a set as well.

ROTF! WTF! I hope not! That scares me because I haven't got the bill yet. *sigh*

Well the order arrived today. $714.63!! (ack!) Yeah I went all out. If it was metal I replaced it. If it was plastic on the playfield it was replaced. Yes I know there are 5 legs there. One of my North Star legs was bent from when it was shipped back in the spring. Yes I know I could have regrained the lock down bar and side rails. I didn't feel like it. The answer is "No", none of the old metal parts are for sale. They are spoken for already.

Very nice surprise from your spouse! Congratulations and welcome to the EM family.

#3410 9 years ago

Oh look a Platinum Mink Tonkinese! My Tonkinese cat just passed away about 10 days ago. She was 19 years old. Beautiful cats btw.

#3412 9 years ago

Dude the grey one is a Tonkinese.(Half Burmese / Half Siamese) They are a wonderful breed and very vocal. They also live almost forever because of the Burmese in their blood.

Quoted from dtown:

If you do, it's an Ash Gray color. I really don't like white shirts as I hate doing my wash separately. Yes. Even though I'm married, I do my clothes and my wife does hers. That's what 10+ years of living alone does to a guy. They get...independent.
Anyway, the guy at arcade novelties seemed to forget that he offered that color with that print. Just point him this way if he does.

LOL! I wash my clothing because if I didn't then my 2XL shirts would turn into mediums and all my whites would be pink.

Greenchidna...welcome to pinside and welcome to the EM forums. I am glad you enjoy this thread and you have great taste in music since you know exactly where I got my name from. "Sheik Yerbouti" is one of my favorite Zappa albums. Thanks for bumping one of my favorite threads. Next week I should have two recently acquired EMs to share in this thread.

#3611 9 years ago

My favorite track from Shiek Yerbouti would be "Broken Hearts are For @$%^holes"
My favorite FZ song would have to be a toss up between "Florentine Pogen" and "Corolina Hardcore Extacy"
I will pick two FZ albums as my favorite. "Roxy and Elsewhere" and "Hot Rats"
Best FZ instrumental for me would be "Rat Tomago" followed by "Peaches in Regalia"

Are we going to get to play your Central Park at TPF this month, Dan?

Yes Mike, but it will be set up in the tournament area along with another pin I am bringing and will be showing off in pictures later this week. Hopefully you can sneak in a game or two on it.

#3666 9 years ago

I figured I would share a video I made this evening of my 1966 Gottlieb Central Park. Enjoy! (Make sure you click the arrow and up the video to 1080 or 2160p hi res)

#3668 9 years ago

Ken what are you doing this weekend? Would you like to come over? Just text or call me. You are always welcome to come over and play the game before TPF.

#3670 9 years ago
Quoted from DirtFlipper:

Nice CP! You might consider doubling the rings on the flippers.

Brand new flipper rebuild, low 30k plays. 3 coats of fresh wax, new rubbers, everything rebuilt. I don't need double rings on my flipper bats. Everyone seems to like it that way but I don't. I can slap the ball very hard up the side past the first pop bumper and high into the bullseye targets with ease.

#3682 9 years ago
Quoted from EM-PINMAN:

You got me really excited with that video Dan! Your monkey was really going to town! Your video was so clear and awesome it was like I could almost touch your monkey!
Ken

Well Ken made it over on Saturday afternoon. Earlier in the morning I was bummed out that the yellow target was not scoring and kept locking in and was about to fry the coil. Ken arrived and for the first hour we both found that the gaps in relays were correct. We traced the red and white wire everywhere in the game. We finally unplugged the jones plug and reseated it. Fired up a game and the yellow target would give a 5 second pause before it would score. We took out the jones plug again (I had used sandpaper to clean the plugs 2 months prior) and this time used some 90% iso to clean the plugs. We then fired it back up and BAM! Everything is so responsive! The game truly is remarkable! Ken and I played all my games for the next hour or so. It seems Ken really likes my North Star. He made it sing and dance as he lit up all the rollovers and all 3 specials. I had only done that myself in 2 or 3 games in the hundreds I have played.

#3695 9 years ago

Next month after TPF I plan to dig into the machine and figure out why it blows fuses on low tap. If needed I will get a different transformer. I also hate the "small"contact switches that Steve at PBR sent for the kickers. I need to find some used original ones to solder back in. High Tap just flings the ball right into the outlanes as well. I haven't given up on the machine, I just lost interest in the game for now. Just need some motivation to dig into this machine without messing it up.

Well this happened today. I sold my King of Diamonds and bought a Surf Side. I can always replace the KoD. Surf Side is just one of those titles you don't see pop up for sale. I also figured I needed to change it up.

_surfside.jpg_surfside.jpg
#3759 9 years ago

North Star might not make the cut, although friends like yourself do enjoy North Star. I just wish I liked it more than my luke warm enjoyment of it.

#3762 9 years ago

Thank you Mike! This is the only 60's multiplayer I have discovered that is a HOOT to play. Mike O would you like to share any other 60's Gottlieb 2 or 4 players that are up there on the playability chart?

#3764 9 years ago

The only reason I would own an "Airport" is because my wife is a flight attendant. I have never had a chance to play one. Although I love the single player wedgeheads (obviously) I want to search out the 60-69 multiplayers that are worth owning.

#3766 9 years ago

It sucks that you have to sell it. I have never played one and my curiosity is peeked

#3770 9 years ago
Quoted from hoov:

Looks nice Rat!
I don't see that title come up for sale very often.

Out of curiosity Hoov.... How often do you see a Surf Side come up for sale. Then how many times have you seen a Surf Side with a perfect 10 non-faded backglass, 9 playfield and an 8 cab? Plastics are a 9+ as well.

#3779 9 years ago

I will just let you guys drool over these pictures. Pinball porn at it's best.

Quoted from jrpinball:

"KOD" is not easily replaced. "SS" is nice, but sacrificing a "KOD" for it may not have been wise. But, if you're comfortable with the move, that's your business, and I hope you enjoy your new game.

KoD is a great game and I see them for sale 1-2 times a year or more. I see them from museum quality to beater quality. I see them priced from 1000 beater to 3500 dollar museum piece. Mine was an overall 8. She was pretty but the first KoD I had was a Herb Silvers resto and an awesome one at that. The game play of KoD starts out as a 9 out of 10 and then diminishes over a year to an 8/10. My backglass was original and a strong 9. Playfield was an 8. (planking and touchups) Cab was a touched up but original 8. It was an 1800-2000 dollar example. I did a trade plus I got some cash. That cash will go towards other things. Like my next pinball purchase.

I couldn't be happier. KoD was too easy for me. I knew all the tricks and shots. The game was old hat. It got played often and worn out in my mind often. I had to change it up. I needed a game that was good for parties. I hate having a party and looking to my left and saying "are you okay" and then to my right "oh good score there" and then look back at my own score. Having a multiplayer gives me some competition and having that rare 60's game that compliments my collection makes sense. You would have thought that I had sacrificed my holy grail like my 63 Slick Chick or something.

Love that vintage call box. When the drinks get low, do you use it to summon the butler?

LOL! I wish I could wipe the 1979 out of this house. (System 1 Gottlieb...I just need to do the ground mod) My house is solid state and I would rather it be DMD.

#3802 9 years ago

I figured I would share a video of my newly acquired 1967 Gottlieb Surf Side and have Odin drool in the process. You can bump the quality all the way up to 2160p resolution. Enjoy!

#3815 9 years ago

I am starting to think my Surf Side has better artwork (better gameplay as well) than the 6500 dollar MSRP Whoa Nellie machine. All at less than 1/4th the cost.

#3829 9 years ago

I figure you guys read this quicker than any other EM topic so here goes a question. I have a 5 inch bell that is in really nice shape that I am stealing from Surf Side to put in the backbox animation of my Central Park. I want this thing to look like a brand new copper penny when I am finished. I have Brasso and rags but is there anything better to use? Any advice would be great.

#3832 9 years ago

You mean CLR?

#3837 9 years ago

I got back late but I ran into Nicvolta and he recommended the Mothers Mag and aluminum polish as well. First picture is when I pulled the bell out. Second picture is after use of Brasso (This stuff smells like old cat litter urine amonia smell) Third and fourth picture were after use of Mothers M and A Polish! So nice! Thanks for the tips!

IMG_1604.JPGIMG_1604.JPG IMG_1609.JPGIMG_1609.JPG IMG_1613.JPGIMG_1613.JPG IMG_1614.JPGIMG_1614.JPG
#3839 9 years ago
Quoted from Darcy:

Yep, that stuff smells bad. But why is the bell a silver color in photo 2? Lighting? The results look great.

I didn't know what I was doing with the Brasso compoud and I was in a very bright home depot store with the bell. Who knows..*shrug*

#3840 9 years ago

So I go to put the polished shiny 5 inch bell from Surf Side into Central Park. Come to find out the Central Park 5 inch bell in the monkey unit is proprietary because it has the bolt in the middle as part of the bell itself. The good news is what I thought was Gold paint was actually a very heavy 48 years of oxidation. 1 hour and 30 minutes later with Brasso and then Meguires Mag and Aluminum polish and the results are outstanding! The first two pictures are after pics and the third one is a before picture.

And now you have 2 shiny bells

I know right! When i rains it pours! Now I have a 5 inch shiny bell in the inside of Surf Side.

Quoted from SteveinTexas:

The bells the bells!
Hey Rat, you are turning into quite the restorer with that perseverance to get your bell up to standard. Well done, and I got to learn from the group something else. Win win win.

You're welcome Steve!

Surf Side got some new metal tonight. It only took me 3 hours to change out the coin door but I got it done.

Royal Guard gave up smoking tonight. I changed all the nicotine laden playfield posts (don't give a flying truck about the PBR repro debate...I like 'em). The game also got new fan target decals and roll over lane guides. The playfield now has a nice pop to it.
