Hi gang. Joining the thread for the first time. I picked up this 1959 HD and few weeks ago and finally got it working 100%. My Cousin told me about it and it took about 6 months to get in touch with the owner and get the deal done. For a 58 year old game it's in good shape , except for the kicker plastics which are crazy warped. It was missing the 10,100 unit bell and most the steppers were frozen with all old grease.

I installed a new bell , makes a big difference and I'll probably spring for new kicker plastics. The other game in the background is FLASH.

Has some LED for backbox lighting (regular blinking incandescent for title) and bright LED for score reels which are terribly dark with normal 44 bulbs.

Man, so glad you are enjoying Bazaar. I thought I wanted one in the worst way and I almost bought it twice this summer but other games kept coming along and made me keep passing. I just love the backglass and yellow reels but the playfield art and layout just doesn't seal the deal for me. If one comes up closer to me in decent shape and decent price then all bets are off. Thanks for sharing the pics.

I'm always impressed by the improvement LED's can make over score reels. Even after replacing the sockets the light from regular bulbs sometimes isn't enough.

I'm really loving some of the asymmetrical setups of the 60's Bally pins, love Bazaar! Can't wait to get it painted and tuned up 100%

Grand Tour is growing on me too, Bus Stop I'm only so-so on but it has a more traditional symmetrical layout.

I agree. 44 flexy LED's over the score reels are a must.

Flying High?

Ding, Ding, Ding, we have a winner! Not that it was a contest, but part of the FUN is identifying a pin from a photo, that shows only a piece of a game.

This is 1 complete pin and a parts pin. The parts game is almost complete, missing a bottom, cross braces, legs, coin door.

Here are some photos of this Flying High with some extras. These 2 pins have been standing on end for more than 15 years.

I was going to ask if this was a barn find, but you answered that question. I wonder if the mouse built a house?

The previous owner had them in his storage building. When he moved all of the pins he had from the storage building to his new garage (behind is house) the one pin fell apart. There was a second worn out back glass 2 weeks ago, it was in the advertisement photos. As the backbox split apart the glass did not survive intact. Have not opened the cabinet with the broken glass, as of today. Might do that tonight.

Those quirky Ted Zale games are great. They're such a refreshing change from the ho-hum predictable designs from William's or Gottlieb. Only problem is, that Zale's designs were either outrageously creative, or terribly "samey."

(regarding Williams games... Norm Clark definitely not included on the ho-hum predictable scale!)

Some Gottlieb woodrail games had a dual scoring system. Points are separate from your score, and are indicated elsewhere on the backglass. The tally for points is rather low (single or double digits) compared to the score which runs into the millions.
I believe some Williams woodrails had this feature as well, but kept the tally on a wheel, similar to the replay counter.

Have not played it yet. I'm learning as I go.

So the 4 Roll Overs and the 2 side kickers accumulate (Single) Points. Which show up on the bottom of the backglass.
The other scoring starting at 10,000 and up to 5,990,000. Fills the rest of the Backgklass.
The 7 Pop Bumpers are the 1 -7 in the backglass. Only 2 are pops, the rest do not pop.
It should be some fun to master. And loud, 3 different bells.

This one? Yeah, it's a great machine.

I've had a lot of them come and go but the lineup has been pretty stable for a while, meaning I've found a collection of great games with good variety that are all great players with great art. And this is truly one of them. Old pics, but I'm at work.

By looking at the playfield photos on IPDB. The lower kickers score 1 Point. There are the 2 blue Roll Overs on the upper part of the playfield (one on each side) score 1 Point. But then they can be lit, and will then score 5 Points.

Oi Vey, you guys got me there! Although I was more or less alluding to the more predictable designs that came out of the 70s. Like the Skylabs, Jubilees, Darlings, and all those other games that sold surprisingly well despite them all using the same basic (and imo, boring) layout.

An aside, I love the fact that he used that same wireform ramp situation on FreeFall some 30+ years later.

I kinda like Skylab though. And the key to enjoying Jubilee/Darling is playing multiplayer!

Nic if I remember right when you totaled out all the pins you fixed on your last trip I think Skylab was number one or close? That could be the reason you like it, you fix it so much.

Skylab actually is a good, fun playing game.

I'll have to give it another chance then. When I first played Jubilee (or Darling. I forget), I remember thinking how cool of a concept that "get all the balls on the lit side" was, but also thinking just how barren the rest of the game was, and I quickly dismissed it. Maybe I dismissed it a little too quickly!

Terrible game. Decent looking though, especially for a Williams of that era. What's worse than "Ro Go" though?

As much credit as Ted Zale gets for his asymmetrical layouts of the 60s, I believe Harry Williams was the pioneer in this department with flipper games as he designed many many games in the 50s that were that way when none of the other big manufacturers were trying anything like that.

Really? Love that game. It's tough to beat, but a lot of fun. "Ro Go" is totally uninspiring to me. I'd take "Darling" over it any day.

Just picking on the Gottlieb Guys a bit.

Sweet Hearts is the #1 EM on the IPDB rankings... which is nuts to me. I see mostly bagatelle and drains with a tiny play area at the bottom. Not much to do but "hit it up the lanes" by chance. If you win, no points, but you get to do it again! Bwah?!?

Would take Darling over Ro-Go too!

There are no ties in pinball. But sometimes we come pretty darn close.

Recently picked up this 4 Roses. BG is pretty rough. But the reverse wedge looks good between my two wedges. Cab was covered in decades of nicotine stains, pf pretty dirty and because game so difficult to win, someone had put posts in outlines, in three places!!!! Also had totally frozen red side stepper unit, and a couple bumper issues. Still missing chime unit and bell from backbox, so looking for replacement, but not critical now. Overall nice machine and fun but frustrating to play.

I don't put much stock in those IPDB ratings. "Sweet Hearts" is a good game, but not outstanding by any stretch. Has a little historical significance because it's the last game with a gobble hole.
It's one of those games with the apron that allows the left drain "death save". I've played games where I've done this two or three times. Almost like getting a free ball!
