Cool Photos, looks great!I would bet that thing plays slick.

My River Boat cab is very nice, but the front was kind of similar to o-din's when I got it. I eventually sanded and filled it and repainted it. The color came out really close to the rest of the cab, and it looks really great.

Both it and Heat Wave are great games. I had a chance at a Heat Wave, but I just didn't have room for it. I'd have loved to have had it. I just think RB is the better game, more to do, but Heat Wave is still a great game.

Quoted from Rat_Tomago:

Nick you need to play a well set up Riverboat when you get a chance.

Oh totally. My impressions of River Boat are only speculation based upon the way the geometry looks. Won't know for sure until I play a good, dialed-in one in person.

One thing which doesn't grab me is "completion for completion's sake". A crap-ton of Gottlieb's were designed to "play for specials"... KOD included. But if you look at the actual trajectories of what is happening, it's not all that novel. But the gee-whiz animations and "gotta get 'em all" feeling hooks newbies pretty hard. Until they cease to be newbies once they beat it.

I look at flow, shot variety, risk/reward, and chance factor when evaluating games. A mediocre game with hard goals may be fun to beat the first time, but subsequent games tend not to hold my attention. It's the same with video games (or, really, any challenge). The journey is more important than the goal.

Anyway... blah blah blah... gonna bring more fancy beer when I come a-knockin' at Odin's casa again...

I thought mine was set up decent when he was here. Hard to play them all I guess...

Where did you get the playfield protector? Doesn't seem like a bad idea

When did it enter your stable? I don't remember seeing it there last time.

Almost two years ago. It came with Surf Side and Teachers Pet. Hard to play them all in one shot though.

Yeah, picked this up for free this weekend. I haven't even used a rag to clean it yet. This will never happen again.

Is it as nice as it looks in the pictures?

No that's okay... I'll take it instead

Tape & knife later, looking good. Did it strictly by eye but I don't think it's too far off. Unfortunately I got the color on there and it was a little darker than I wanted but I think I'm going to roll with it even though I'll probably never get my taping this perfect again. I could always change it before I pull the stickers off but I have very important company coming to stay for a while tomorrow and I want this thing back in the lineup so I think it's coming off. Too dark out now for paint pictures unfortunately. It's like a grape purple, and the original is more violet although I think this color would do better things for the backglass color scheme anyways.

(Sorry for not putting this in it's own thread, just don't think it really deserved one and it'll be done tomorrow so my project spam will be gone, I promise! )

Edit: Oops, noticed the arrows are a little too high anyways.

Yeah, you're right. I guess I should.

Flipper wear on the playfield and the arrow inserts need to be touched up or something. The back glass is a 9 and the playfield an eight? I haven't done anything to it yet. There are a few hacks in the backbox but nothing that can't be corrected. Granted the game doesn't play right now but hey, it looks darn good.

No new EM to show, but my wife just finished a painting of part of my Sing Along play field. I think it turned out pretty nice

Tracey_Painting_(resized).JPG

Deciding whether to hang it in my game room or in my home office (where unfortunately I spend much more time!).

#6486 3 years ago

It is fabulous! Hang it where you will spend the most time looking at it!

No matter how nice the rest of the game, Williams games from that era seemingly always have the horrifically faded dummy reel.

That was one of the first things I fixed, thanks to Inkochnito.

Picked my up on wednesday.

Rough shape but working.

Nope, probably been gone the last 15 years or so, had some ancient dried out brown thick tape over the hole when i got it.

Took me an hour to get that off + almost a full can of Label-Off for the residue LOL
