Quoted from PhilGreg:Has the cabinet been restored?
no it hasn't been restored, the playfield is the nicer than the cab. I did replace the base inserts on that though.

another one in the queue for restore and rebuild..a container landed with about 70 ems from germany into australia a week ago..have always wanted a gottlieb swing along and will look great next to happy clown and oklahoma
just wish somebody would make repro decals for the spinning targets.
Quoted from Elvisinmypants:I am really enjoying this game I might have to keep it, I'd keep everything though.
if you decide to part with it let me know, I been wanting one and yours looks nice
Quoted from manitouguy:I'm finally completing a number of my decal projects - let's see a close up or two of the targets
That's the baseball pin I really wanted and settled for a Grand Slam when one became available 5 miles from my house

Sweet.... let me ask you.... do you mean to protect the garage floor or the leg's feet?
Quoted from AlexSMendes:Sweet.... let me ask you.... do you mean to protect the garage floor or the leg's feet?
Just in case you are serious, I am protecting a different floor by not scratching up the new levelers.
Quoted from Spider3582:That's the baseball pin I really wanted and settled for a Grand Slam when one became available 5 miles from my house
I've been really wanting a World Series. I had a trade lined up for a Grand Slam once, rented a van loaded two machines and let it run all night so the machines wouldn't get damaged by the -20f and the guy backed out at 4 am. I was leaving at 5 am.
Quoted from Elvisinmypants:Just in case you are serious, I am protecting a different floor by not scratching up the new levelers.
Not serious Just thought your garage floor was pretty banged up!
Here's some better pics of Sittin' Pretty. It's very tough to dunk 3 clowns in a row (to win a replay) let alone all 7, but it keeps you plugging quarters! I'd have to rate this one near the top of my list. Super fun play! A beautiful restore from df.
Wrong pics!!! But Criss Cross is nice too! I'll try again.

I thought you had one Odin
Quoted from Mikala:I thought you had one Odin
I do. And like you I thought I would never find one. I looked for quite a while. It does look right at home in my garage too. Good playing, tough game. Congrats!
Finally completed a resto of my Super Spin which was my first machine purchase back in November 2013. Completed cab, bg & minor pf touch-ups incl arch trail; resto of motor board & head; rebuild of roto, bonus stepper & player unit along with full shop of pf. I was amazed at the number of very loose coil stops on roto & bonus stepper units & flipper assemblies.
This was a good example for me of the before & after impact of a full resto. The machine plays beautifully & the improvement is just so noticeable.

I picked up the Skyway last night... but before I did, we gently removed the flaking glass and captured it on my windowpane scanner.
We taped down the entire back and scanned both sides.
This will be going to BGresto as a template to make a repro.
Skyway is a cool looking game with unique PF layout.
One came up on craigslist about 2 yrs ago in the bay area,
but someone else got it and I think the PPM has it now on loan.
Lucky that the BG on yours had most of the important paint still attached and visible,
so bgresto should be able to revive it for you and anyone else lucky enough to have the game.
In going thru some of my pinball photo archive,
came across these photos from when i had some 2300 sqft commercial space
and had about 70-80 pins set up for play.
Always thought that WMS Riverboat and GTB King of Diamonds
reminded me of each other, (artwize) at least the main characters on the BG.
what do you think?
And which game do you think is the better player?

If you must know, KOD was a good player but was way too easy to beat even on three ball play. So it left after a few weeks.
River Boat, I am still yet to lite all the cards on five ball play. I don't think it will leave any time soon.
But they both "play" good.
They are complete opposites IMO. One very easy, and the other very hard to complete.

Lovely restore Wayne.
And the art is really good.
Never played or seen this title.
Nice job on that Super Spin! I always thought a Super Spin would look great next to a Surfer/Surf Champ.

River Boat, and it's not particularly close.
You won't light all the cards on it very often o-din. There's a reason it gives you a replay when you lose the ball at the end of the game if you do it. I've owned the game for several years and I'd bet I haven't done it more than 15-20 times.
RB requires a precise plunge shot and precise shooting to light up those cards. It's a tough game, and like most Williams games it is not a special fest, even though there are several ways to light one.
Quoted from EMsInKC:River Boat, and it's not particularly close.

After reading ya'll talking about it, I want to play one now, but I'm afraid unlink like it too much and want to own one..

That doesn't mean I won't go home and give it another try. The thing about River Boat is it is not that hard to lite several cards, but each time you do the next one gets harder. I've been down to the last card a few times now, but that last one still eludes me. I think the challenge of that is what keeps it strong in the line-up.
The artwork on Riverboat is a bit of an enigma.
I believe the BG art is by Art Stenholm
but the PF looks like it was done by George Molentin
I had it sitting next to Heat Wave for a while and the characters on the backglass sure look similar.
King of Diamonds is a B for me. I have owned two of them now. First time around in 2000-2002 I had high regards for the game. Flash forward to 2013 the second time having this game it last a little over a year in my collection. River Boat is much more fun to play. There is a local one that is beat and trashed and is still very fun to play.
Quoted from Mikala:I picked up this gem this past weekend. Was on my wish list, just thought I would never find one. Works 100%, just needs a full restoration.
Seems to be a lot of these around lately.
Things are chugging along... (Found the paint on the top and front where it was just painted black and not covered with Formica was way too bad under the paint to even bother saving by stripping the top coat off, the sides are still a WIP and were masked off though)

For beginners/casual players it's gotta be KOD. They are drawn to the backbox animation and the vertical roto-target... obvious and fun explanation of what to do. Agreed it is a bit simplistic for experienced players.
I haven't played River Boat. I see the long-term challenge represented here, but the geometry looks a little bleh. Doesn't look like the game gets interesting until the lower half which presents you with a lone swinging target and four side drains. Aside from the difficulty factor, it doesn't look like there is much to aim for? Jury is out for me until I can play it...

That might be one of the coolest back glasses ever!
Quoted from electricsquirrel:That might be one of the coolest back glasses ever!
She's a beaut Clark!
I think George Molentin certainly enjoyed drawing the ladies... if the futuristic 'stewardesses' in Skyway and the cheerleaders in my Army Navy are any indication.
I fell hard for this game; it was love at first sight. Definitely a huge artistic effort from Molentin and tons of bells and whistles from Mr. Williams. It's a shame so few survived

And there's a lot to aim for on KoD? You've got a moving target on RB to shoot at, plus the two side targets to try and light the jokers for special. The upper playfield has five pop bumpers to three for KoD, with a rollunder that can award big points, and two dead bumpers to advance the cards and a rollover that is a skill shot off the plunge.
KoD is a good game, but fun factor wise, it doesn't compare to RB.
Quoted from o-din:What do we do on a Saturday afternoon in So Cal when it's going to be over 100 degrees out for the next few days?
What else?
Hay, it's almost 100 degrees here as well! I got one of those too I need to restore! Yahoo!
Quoted from o-din:when it's going to be over 100 degrees out
I wish i could be playing Glen's (pinballprowess) HeatWave this weekend;
it is one sweet game, that keeps you coming back for more,
outshines Riverboat IMHO.
This one came nice enough, but I decided I'd rather be out in the garage doing something on such a nice day like this. And the fridge is full of Pacificas for when the Bills and the Bobs show up later.

I guess, i just be stuck down in my basement playing me some GTB Astro
and sipping my Henry Weinhard's Private Reserve, while the next Thunderstorm rolls thru.
We should stamp Gottlieb on the Riverboat game and a Williams on the KoD. Nick you need to play a well set up Riverboat when you get a chance.
I finally got around to putting the playfield protector on this today. I like that it is protected and completely flat, but I do prefer the ball rolling on wood. It plays completely different. 20160618_204541_(resized).jpg20160618_204658_(resized).jpgbehold my broken plastics and ball swirl20160618_201840_(resized).jpg20160618_201919_(resized).jpg
