Is that from the 40's?

#5702 3 years ago
Quoted from EM-PINMAN:

DO NOT USE WATER PRODUCTS ON THE PLAYFIELD!
This is what can cause planking of the wood!
Use 91% Rubbing alcohol or higher with a magic eraser. I also use rubbing alcohol with a paper tower to get up the left over film from the Magic Eraser. You can finish up with Novus 2 and wax with a soft cloth and preferably use Johnson's Paste or Carnuba Wax which is 100% wax with no cleaners.
Ken

No such thing as 100 percent wax. Pure carnauba is as hard as a brick. May not have cleaners, but it's not all wax.

Play Ball is a wartime conversion by Victory Games using Gottlieb games The Champ and The New Champ. Please submit your photos to the IPDB.

Even though I have had this Bally Four Milion B.C. since May 2015, it feels like I have a new EM in the line up now that the awful white latex paint job has been removed.

May 2015:

Ugly solid white repaint

February 2016:

Beautiful original paint

1942, even knowing it is on clay's site, it was still hard to find.

Did you repaint the Cab?
Looks great!
i need to repaint mine,
do you have stencils
as mine is solid green

#5711 3 years ago

That is bad-ass.

#5712 3 years ago

That game is amazing. I love that artwork.

Not in a million years.

No repaint, the cabinet is original. It was pretty dirty and yellowed. I cleaned it up with magic eraser and rubbing compound. It is a slow and careful process but it came out nice. The red and blue areas were very lighted cleaned to avoid removing any of the paint. The white is more durable. Luckily it was not heavily scratched or "enhanced" with carved initials. The area around the front door has some wear and I've considered just painting just that area as it is all white. I repainted the door itself since it was all scratched up.

What kind of rubbing compound? Just like turtle wax liquid polishing compound or similar? Or something different. I might try that on some trouble spots on my Quick Draw cabinet.

#5716 3 years ago

Yep, see pic. Be careful if the white areas have webbing/splattering as this can be removed quite easily. I test by trying it on the top of the back box first to see how light/heavy I can go without removing what I don't want to.

I would give one of my arms to own that Star Jet.

It is very nice but that seems counterintuitive.

That is one awesome looking game. Never seen one in person but looks fun as well, I really like the EM multi-ball games. Great job cleaning it up.

#5720 3 years ago

Thanks. It is fun, but ball times can be short due to the side drains. It's more fun when two are playing because the locked balls stay locked if you drain, enabling the next player to steal them.

If you did that you would then have to buy Williams games with impulse flippers

I would also give an arm to own it, Dan's other one.

Quoted from AlexF:

It is very nice but that seems counterintuitive.

Not for me.

Quoted from o-din:

But you only have one left...

Down to none now, oh well, that's life, for Dan anyway, but at least I would have a great machine

After all, what are friends for!

Ken

#5724 3 years ago

I could watch you guys play them and point with my nose on the glass.

#5725 3 years ago

There'd be no 'arm in that.

#5736 3 years ago

Looks amazing. What the back story? Is it a N.O.S. playfield, restored playfield, new repo?

#5737 3 years ago

Fantastic machine...Yeah what is the story behind this playfield.

Wizard! has my vote as having the best art package in pinball.

That era of Bally had some great art....... Captain Fantastic & Old Chicago too

#5740 3 years ago

It's a board I was able to get from Wade Krause about 2 years ago. Kind of of favor if you ask me, had to go back and cut the board for me. Took me years to finally find the board and another 2 years to find someone to do the clearcoat and swap. Got it back yesterday.

I think it is good but they used far to much yellow.. I think the best use of color is majorettes

It's not about pool,
It's not about space...
No big, ripe boobies in your face...
It's not real flashy,
But fast and fun...
My Williams "Blue Chip"...
It's finally done!

Bally screened in house, gottlieb and the others contracted out the work. they must of had a better process or better material.

#5745 3 years ago

Nice looking Blue Chip, great job!

#5746 3 years ago
Quoted from MotorCityMatt:

Nice looking Blue Chip, great job!

Yeah, it'll need a bit of tweaking, but it played through a game no problem from the get go. Didn't go whole hog with the cabinet and all. It was pretty decent to start with, but just took everything apart and cleaned and polished. Gotta still change out all the lamps, and a few odds and ends. Thanks.

Yeah, but not all Bally backglasses held up like those of that era. Count in "Flip Flop" among others. Earlier multiplayers such as "The Wiggler", "Capersville", "Rockmakers", etc. are always shot when you find them. They must have gone to a better process at some point.
Maybe they acid etched the glass slightly before laying down the ink. Who knows.
