Played Elvira for the first time at the Pinball Hall of Fame earlier this week. Was pleasantly surprised to make the behind the house skill shot on my very first plunge given the info on this site about how difficult the shot was to make. Made it about once per game on average. Everything seemed to be working fine. Best game resulted in trunk multiball and two garage multiballs. Never got to House Party, though.

Quoted from zwartepanter:

The ramp also didn't lower, so we reboot. All ok with the ramp, but the popper will be something mechanic...

If you know how to put the machine in test mode:

If your machine has a connected coin door switch, when the coin door is open, make sure you pull the switch out.

There are opto switches that count the balls caught in the garage. Put the machine in to test mode and check with a ball they work properly first. Still in test, then test to see if your can manually fire your coil. If the optos work and the coil fires in test, play the game. If the game still does not fire the coil, you will need to reset the software. If the game is firing the coil and it does not eject the ball, make sure it is aligned properly and that all the screws holding the coil in place are still tight.

If the coil does not fire in test mode, check for a broken wire that powers the coil. Make sure all cat 5 cables are seated properly in the CPU and node board.

Call or email Stern.

Good luck!

Thanks but enough experience . It's just that popper...

Darn, my pinball league started this week and I had to shut down Elvira. I got the same problem that was reported earlier in this thread. Celllar VUK keeps firing. Cellar entrance opto was stuck on. Looks like I have to take house apart to realign to opto.
Anyone else run into this issue?

Once I see the opto, my mission is to figure out how to prevent it from going out of alignment again. It seems to work most of the time and eventually get stuck on at some point during the play.

Eerily quiet in here lately. Just got my premium armor back from being powder coated in Illusion Cherry, really like the look on this game.

Great! It seems pretty similar to the LE.

New Elvira is a fun game, unfortunately our local machine has been plagued with the center ramp/house/can't start mode problem... itll work 30% of the time, just enough to tease ya but not enough to not be mega frustrating.

Good techs work on it, hope they can find a permanent fix

If the opto is a problem on a lot of these, is there are a way to code around it, as a backup? Like, if that opto just craps out, can some kind of code logic that recognizes a ball that triggers the left orbit switch without having triggered another shot switch to get up as being a house shot be a possiblity. Dunno if that makes sense. Wish I could dig in on this game, but that dang center shot being broke is too frustrating

#1563 4 years ago

Do the premiums have a fix so they work perfect?
or are the LE’s and the premiums exact the same?

#1564 4 years ago
Quoted from pascal-pinball:

are the LE’s and the premiums exact the same?

All games are exactly the same when it comes to the playfield and game play.

Anyone know the size of the plastic washer/spacer for the cellar door ramp?

Mine is missing and causing issues.

I reached out to Stern and they rushed out a couple to me. I'm sure they'd do the same for you. Took a bit to install but totally fixed any weird ramp hangups.

Any word of Lyman reworking those floating heads? Only reason I have not bought one, just can’t get past them blocking the screen.

My impression is they are staying. I was not a fan of them at the start, once I started playing the game they do not bother me any more.

The heads are fine. Just be thankful the floaties are gone!

Bummer, less than 200 games.

Such shit engineering on this part. DUH!

First thing to do on a new Stern game is to replace the coil stops. They must have a million defective ones ...

I can't believe they haven't purged these bad ones from their inventory. It's been well over a year of bad coil stops, across how many titles, 6 or 7?

Anyone know what is causing the error ‘Cellar door malfunction’ ? Its only once in a while and the ball wont shoot back out the cellar.

Switch test everything working fine.

The issue manifested on mine when I moved it from one room to another. Still trying to track it down. Inspected switches and they are all secure and aligned. Next step is to inspect all the connections under the pf. I did lift the PF a number of times. I will report back anything I find. It's a bit annoying as it is difficult to reproduce.

All new out of the box pins need some kind of tweaking to play 100%. I think most of the early production / assembly issues have been worked out. You are just looking at “normal” problems / fixes now (just like any other new pin purchase).

I don't agree. When I bought my NIB Black Spiderman, Batman, Ironman... there we're absolutely no problems or fixes to do.

That shocks me, really not one single tweak? I have owned 3 NIB Stern all needed tweaks.

Absolutely loving the game. However, I think I've reached the end of the code in just about everything and the game doesn't really progress after. Today I actually completed Gappa Angry for the first time (I didn't know it was completable), and it went into some weird two ball multiball mode where the ball save light was continually flashing and never went off. After I lost both balls the game didn't know what to do, because the ball save light was flashing, yet it didn't want to spit out any more balls into the shooter lane. So the game was basically in a crash state.

After a number of ball searches it decided there was a ball missing (there wasn't) and spat out all balls and let me play until I lost one of them and ended the ball - and the game seeing I was on ball 3.

So yeah, the game is incredible. But I'm kind of hanging for the later game modes to be completed or implemented. At the moment it's hard to motivate myself to play it because most of the time I'll reach a game state that doesn't do anything until I lose a ball.

I continue to investigate my Cellar Backdoor opto issue. This time I went under the playfield and removed the metal bracket and the opto board attached to it. One of the connector pins "seemed" a bit flakey so I replaced it, soldering the wire to the pin before crimping. I also reflowed the wire connections on the board (they looked fine prior though). I cleaned the sensor on the board (alcohol) and the metal bracket. Reinstalled and proceeded to test. After quite a few games, there were no false triggers. Tonight, my husbands task is to play as much as possible. If a problem is going to happen, it usually happens when he is playing (whenever there is a break/malfunction in any of the pins, it is usually when he is playing).

**One test for "misalignment of this opto switch is I pushed/flexed the metal ramp into the house that the top-side opto is near. I thought it may be moving that side of the switch and causing it to go out of alignment. After much pushing/hitting, it remained in alignment.

This is where I'm at. It's extremely annoying to get to Director's Cut, to be told it's starting and then to only be able to bat the ball around and score nothing and not progress the game in ANY way, so you have to drain. Either don't say it's starting or put a 50m placeholder score in. This reminds me of when Spiderman came out and on the earliest few code revisions you got to Superhero and nothing was there.

As for Gappa angry, when you complete it, your reward for doing so is to score "0" the multiball doesn't always start but if you open the coin door, it will start and end correctly. There is no direction, but it seems you may have to fill the meter again during the multiball but I've only got it half way (after quite a long time).

I trust Lyman to make the game epic, it's just frustrating waiting when it's been in development so long

I have a feeling not too many of us are regularly finishing Gappa and/or Final Cut. If I did I would be so happy I wouldn’t care if the game crashed.

I've yet to complete gappa. I've gotten really, really far into it. But, always drain out at the same few shots.
One day....

But, to the thing about some of the incomplete code and bugs.
There is no audio for the intro to the last garage mb. The attic one. That shouldn't be too hard of a fix. Bang it out, fix it, and it'll be super cool.
Yes, the journey for this code is amazing. But, there is still mostly barebones when you think of all the stuff they claim it will have. Phone a friend... The other items. The only item that works right now is the skeleton key. Which I love. As I love getting santa conquers mars!

Just really wish there will be an update soon is all. I'm grumping. And I really just can't wait for the next update.

My garage alignment kind of stunk when I first starter playing. But, it luckily sorted itself out and has been super reliable for me lately.
But, it does act up a few times here and there. But, I gently pat the cab up near where the garage is. And that has been super effective to get the ball lock to register for me lately.

So I am happy about that. As that was one of my bigger issues.
Now. Give me ball save timer out of the vuk!

Finally just got my Elvira House of Horrors and I really wanted a Free Play game card that was super sweet... so I made one!!! I know that I couldn't be the only one that would like this, so I figured that I would share it with everyone that loves this game! I kinda want to make a few different versions for the fun of it. So if I do so I will share them with you all! This graphic is loaded as a pdf so it should print right. If you have problems loading it DM me and I can email it to you. Hope you like it!

Hello all,

Looks like I will be joining the club in the next few weeks with a Premium. Really excited to get this one. I wanted to see if there was a consolidated list of things to check on the game before playing it as I have seen different issues throughout the history of this thread.

Thanks in advance

People seem to have the most trouble with the house shot up the middle and the game not recognizing the hit. I’ve had zero issues, except a loose pin on one of the gargoyles. It’s a great game, looking forward to more code updates.
