Im having an issue with my machine its saying house lockup. All i did was lift the playfield out to put in art blades when the i put the playfield back in this happened. I was crazy careful and used 2 people to take it out. Now when i start the machine theres a loud coil fire sound in the back and when you start the game when you shoot in the house its like it doesn't register the ball. Is there anything i could do before calling stern?

Quoted from PanzerKraken:

Well the bug has been around a really long time now, so yea I don't have much faith on them caring to fix it

I do

Anyhow, aside from bugs I would like the beast booster to have more rules in the game. And that turret too.. I know it gives an add-a-ball, but other than that I am not sure?

Has anyone had an issue where the left ramp option triggers on external lighting conditions? I have my game at a bar and I’ve figured out that when you block the light just right it will register the opto.

If you fully removed the pf, I would check connections first. Make sure you are not 1 pin off on any of them. My guess would be that’s the issue. Other things to check for are broken wires or a wire shorting on the sides or back edge of the pf.

Could be the house lockup opto, it's on a bracket behind the house, check out the manual. Make sure it's plugged back in correctly had has line of site. It should be lit red like the ramp optos and can be tested in the switch test. If that opto is out it will cause this error message.

These are being donated to Project Pinball for their charity auction at Expo in October (online bidding will be available).

I originally planned for the Lyman charity set to be the last Elvira set I'd ever make, but with the additional Stern run since, it seemed fair to make another couple sets (if I ever do something similar again, it would be at least a couple years out, but the Elvira sets won't go back into standard production).

.
Will be hand numbered as a 1 of 2 LE set underneath the caskets.

------------------

Features over a standard set:

* More chrome-like hinges (crosses matched--lid cross shape based on the 1958 Dracula film).

* Vampire priest under the top lid.

* Cross and stake under the bottom lid (providing similar innuendo as the dagger from the 40th).

* Bloody elements on all pieces not seen on any other set.

* Yellow gargoyle eyes (two yellow tones).

* Smoother casket/lid finishes over standard.

* Black glitter Gonk roof (sparkles in the right lighting).

* Black glitter Elvira lettering and cross (doesn't sparkle--more like a stone grit texture).

* Tombstone remembering the legendary Barry Oursler, which seemed particularly fitting for this more "Dracula" themed set.

Quoted from IronMan8Bit:

This is my fix is for the Crypt VUK, Crypt Kicker build Date Feb 24th, 2023 with updated mounting screw holes from the factory.
VUK power default = 255.
I just sanded out the white up post with a ball grinder via the HurryUpPinball YouTube Video:
so the ball can sit in it AND adjusted the subway exit hole to be exactly center around the white up post (with the playfield up on the backbox mine was too far down so I had to rise it up a tad by taking off the top 2 screws and re-screwing a new hole on the top right of the subway.): https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/elvira-s-house-of-horrors-the-owner-s-club/page/314#post-7761593
I'm getting 90-100% hits now, most importantly no dribble/weak shots.
Hopefully this helps people moving forward that don't have to dig through tons of posts.
Maybe want to start labeling/updating older posts that don't have relevant/mis-leading information in them.
Also if this fix is so easy why doesn't Stern actually make an VUK up post that is concave for the ball rather than being flat??

This worked for me like a champ. It was a bitch waiting for those pink ball sander things from China but once the post was concave it works like an absolute champ and REALLY appreciate Pinsider's like this and others that post solutions for the community. Like others have said in the videos, the plastic is hard so keep at it. BTW, I have several extra pink ball bits. It took me about three of them to do the deed. Hit me up if you need a miracle.

Hey friends! I am going to start looking at an Elvira premium with a weird issue this week. During multi ball if you hit the lock shot again the flippers die for a second. I've searched this thread and have not seen a similar issue. Sounds like node board shenanigans so I will go over those connections carefully. I think they are running current code. Any other ideas? I will update after I get to look at the machine. Thanks!

So this was wild and I think I fixed it but I don’t know what I did. I unhooked everything from node board eight. After slowly adding connectors, it was the one with a garage optos they would make it totally freak out. I was able to catch it in switch test making the switch matrix go absolutely bananas.

I took the left ramp off. It would freak out when I would touch the TX side of the 3bank optos. I removed the transmitter and couldn’t find anything wrong with it. No shorts. Not touching anything. The wires go through a G.I. hole and there’s nothing weird going on there. I reflowed the headers to make myself feel like I did something and put it back together, and everything was fine. I tested the receiver side with my phones flashlight before I reinstalled and everything seemed normal. I have no idea what the issue was but it’s playing fine now.

Hey guys - I’m sure this can’t be the only instance but is there any explanation for random restarts on this game? This is the only stern spike 2 I’ve had this issue with. The game seems to reboot randomly, it’s updated with all new code and it seems to happen more often during a haunt intro screen but it’s inconsistent. I already got a new SD card and used that and no change. Any ideas?

If it's from the new run this year and it happens as soon as you get into the house for haunt contact your distributor. I think pcb and power supply need to be replaced!

I must say I've thought about selling my EHOH LE because I just don't play it any more. In fact I don't play any of my pins any more. I don't know where my motivation about pinball went, but it just feels mostly gone now. There are some things which have affected me over the past few years, some of it pinball related and some not. I even had a lot of fun doing things beyond just playing, but opportunity closed its door on me. I sold 4 of the 7 games I had and only 3 remain. My collection feels gutted, just like how I feel. I wish I knew how to fix that.

Installed bone flippers last night because they are only $24 and this game should have been made with them on it and not yellow.

Hey, Rob. I think lots of us go thru highs and lows in this hobby. (And life in general), I hope your passion comes back for the games, but more importantly, try to do what makes you happy in life and remember that there are usually brighter days ahead. Don't let stuff out of your control get you down too much. I wish you all the best in the days to come, bro.

You're not gonna want to hear this, but I have come to the realization how stupid this hobby is. It is way way more expensive than it is fun, and not a ton of my friends care about it. Makes me wonder, sometimes, "wtf am I doing?"

But then there are times I really enjoy it. But I do feel like a pinball enthusiast impersonator sometimes, and that maybe I don't belong here.

This is going to sound lame, but is there an alternate, less-voluptuous translite available for this machine?

I want to pick an Elvira HoH Premium, but I have a young child and don't want to expose him to Elvira's chest.

For me, I get uninterested in pinball when I'm down on the happy account. Actually I'm a bit in your situation right now and I mainly blame the financial issues I'm going through at the moment where I've lost A LOT of my savings due to the terrible stock market together with soaring costs and interest rates. The world really kind of sucks right now and unfortunately it makes me less prone to playing pinball.

Another option is to choose a JPEG image you like and have a custom translite made for you by GameOnGraffix. It’s around $50, but it’s an option. You could simply place something over that area of the artwork too. I think some people have placed some black paper or decal on Elvira to make her dress less revealing. I think even if the translite issue is resolved, there is still some video content you can’t easily avoid. I have a 4-year-old who just ignores her anyway, for now.

I don’t think it sounds lame. I would recommend an alt translite.

Maybe see if Pinstein has options for you.

Check out this translite I’m rocking. The game is in my office so she’s sporting one of our company branded shirts.

When you’re plunging the ball is there anything in the settings that I can disable to remove the post in the back but just on the plunge? Because when it comes up, it’s easy to plunge into the pops. I was hoping that if it went too long. It would come around the left orbit instead of bouncing back into the pops.

On a plunge the gate between the top inlanes and the house opens so you can try to hit the backdoor skill shot. If you plunge too hard it does come out the left orbit.

If you set launch/plunge to utilize "double flipper" (L+R simultaneously) it will always lift the stopper. Even on a Ball save auto plunge **so long as you are holding the L&R flippers when it launches** this will allow a backdoor skill shot on ball saves and/or ball locks too.

I've repaired the stripped screw hole, I've adjusted the plunger so it wouldn't be bumping against anything and it still malfunctions every time I turn it on. I'm very upset with how much grief this game has given me. For the amount of money it costs and the fact that this just a home use game, I'm shocked at how poorly made this thing is operating.

Yes

If that post is firing repeatedly on starting up the machine, then it likely means the opto receiver and transmitter are not lined up. Go into Active Switch Test (not regular switch test). See if Switch 54 House Lock comes up on the screen as being active (similar to how the trough switches show up when the balls are in the trough). If it shows up in active switch test then you just need to realign the optos to fix the problem.

To realign them, I'd suggest leaving the machine powered on, pull it out to the service position, and use switch test & active switch test to get them aligned properly. It's a pretty simple to align the optos but it needs to be done using switch test to make sure they're aligned properly.

#15792 58 days ago

I've toyed with it alot, but really more than any pin i've had, the slings on EHOH really love to slam balls straight into the outlane drains. The speed of it really makes it not something one can really account for with nudging as it's just instant toss into the drain, and it just feels wrong as I don't get this with other sterns. Yes it's been leveled carefully, i've played with incline as well and just it's just a nasty drain tosser.

Do I really need to crank down the slings power? I already toned em down a bit but really still seems they just are way out of control. This is from the batch earlier this year, I know the flippers were way too powerful and toned them down heavily, but it just seems wrong that i'm losing so many balls to the slings just going "KOBE!" to my outlane drains. Seeing older footage of EHOH being played on streams and such, the slings don't seem as strong. Anyone else really crank down their slings?

Yep the top of the slings is a dangerous spot on a lot of games. Pretty much ends up being a line drive to the outlane from there. I like playing with them at stock power and learning on each machine how to minimize the risk. Usually it’s best to nudge to keep the ball from going toward the top of the sling or nudge right as it hits the sling.

But sometimes it’s just going to be unavoidable and the ball will fly to the outlane.

You are correct about that opto. It was not aligned and actually not lit up. I took it off and it still was causing the issue. I cleaned, nudged, something on the opto itself and it's working now (not connected to the back panel though). I had to fill in stripped holes on that back panel for the house lock up coil already and I'm worried about this opto being an issue when I put it back.

I had to fill in stripped holes on that back panel for the house lock up coil already and I'm worried about this opto being an issue when I put it back.

Alignment of the opto shouldn't be a problem again if you verify in switch test that it's aligned correctly after you tighten it in.

A loose wire/connection to the opto could cause it to start happening again because, just like when it's out of alignment, the lack of a beam being received tells the game to fire the post. If that happens then pushing on the connections like you did before can help you ID which connection is loose, and then you can re-flow the solder to fix it.

If you haven't soldered before, it's easier than it sounds. I'd never thought about soldering before I first owned a pin a few years ago. But it's not too difficult. It's basically just using a hot rod to heat metal into a liquid puddle, then remove the rod and the puddle pretty instantly solidifies again to form a solid conduit for electricity. I got a pretty cheap iron off Amazon that came with some wires and circuit boards to practice on and it's worked well.

Quoted from EaglePin:

Yep the top of the slings is a dangerous spot on a lot of games. Pretty much ends up being a line drive to the outlane from there. I like playing with them at stock power and learning on each machine how to minimize the risk. Usually it’s best to nudge to keep the ball from going toward the top of the sling or nudge right as it hits the sling.
But sometimes it’s just going to be unavoidable and the ball will fly to the outlane.

Yea it can happen, just seems like it oddly happens far more on EHOH than any other stern i've touched. Also comparing outlane design, the Elvira one feature a more slanted angle shape which I feel contributes to it. The angled rubber brackets above the drains too are big rebound points.

It's a game that needs more nudging than most it does feel like, but the rapid sling drains just always feel awfully unfair and it just seems to be happening far more on this than anything else. On Godzilla I almost never see this happen for example, but if it does it's that lower ufo bumper that caused it grrrrr.

I might tone down the slings a little more again to see if it helps.

Has anyone else had this problem? That is where the toothpicks I was told to put in the stripped screw hole have come out. That is the back panel where the coil for the house lock is.

I agree.

This game has some of the deadliest slings in a modern Stern. I feel like the relatively easy shots sort of make up for that, but yes, the drains can be infuriating!

Quoted from EaglePin:

On a plunge the gate between the top inlanes and the house opens so you can try to hit the backdoor skill shot. If you plunge too hard it does come out the left orbit.

It seems like when I plunge my wall gate on the back of the house is always down. So if I plunge it hard, it will hit that and fall back into the path. I go into this coil switch test and it activates so the coil is firing to put the gate up but no idea why it doesn’t go up when I plunge.
