Quoted from Vino:

Smart. One of the most unique modern Sterns that initially got passed over. Many here knew better.

A lot of us took grief for supporting the idea of a third Elvira title in the first place. Then it came out and most said “ho hum. No code”, “who cares about Elvira any more”, “there’s nothing to do in the game”, “just another boring fan layout”.

We got our games anyway then sat back and watched as Lyman and company completed the incredible throwback Bally Williams design from Dennis, Greg and Cassandra implementing the ultimate haunted house game and turned it into an under the radar hit for Stern with awesome gameplay and brilliant use of audio and video assets.

Quoted from BallyKISS1978:

I agree with you I just want my deposit fulfilled.

Stern wouldn't have bothered upping the price $500 if they weren't going to make anymore. They would have just discontinued it altogether.

WOW Just got too They came from outer space for the first time WOW !!!!!! SO COOL!

Thats a good mode. But gappa gets my heart beating and I have a hell of a time hitting the shots. Haven't got past 4 locks yet

I managed to get Gappa Multiball for the first time just last weekend! Fantastic mode and just getting there is very challenging. I hadn't got past 4 locks either and then it just happened!

I've had this game for over 16 months and I'm still discovering new things. Love this game!

Ya have to kinda cheat and keep balls in the pops. Letting it drain quick or try to get there on plunge. In multiball, let em drain until ballsave runs out , sometime helps other times just shortens the game

I really find that if you can get the Wheel of fate prepped on the left outlane before a multiball, you almost always get a ball that drains and actives it and choice garage multiball extension is the best way to get to gappa..if you can extend trunk too if you activate again during multiball even better but You end up with a ton of balls in the pops this way.. usually after extended garage multiball your easily moved up 3 levels if not 4 of the Mixer

Oh, I've gotten to Gappa Angry plenty of times. It's *finishing* all the shots and locking all the balls for Gappa Multiball is what was elusive.

I have an EHOH on order for the next cycle. Can anyone comment if this scene from Gappa is part of the Gappa angry mode? If not, it needs to be added. I just watched the trailer for this movie on YouTube. LOL. So bad.

#6911 3 years ago

If he's saying "Gappa...Gappa angry!" Then it's in there.

#6912 3 years ago

Here is the full Gappa trailer. I’d never heard of this movie until researching this pin.

All I’m going to say is that nothing good ever happens when rogue and selfish porn magazine publishers decide to try to diversify their businesses to include exotic animal theme parks... Gaappppaaa! LOL.

ok so I'm giving in and asking why is GAPPA in an Elivra game? Is she in the movie?

#6915 3 years ago
Quoted from NeilMcRae:

ok so I'm giving in and asking why is GAPPA in an Elivra game? Is she in the movie?

Is she in any of the movies in the game? I think it is a collection of terrible B movies from the 60's and 70's she used to make fun of and show on her late night show years ago. The ghosts of those shows now haint her house and the theme of the game is excising those ghosts so she can sell it.

#6916 3 years ago
Quoted from NeilMcRae:

The game is using assets from the Elivra's Movie Macacbre 2011 show( all the movies used in the game are from that version of the show),which included this episode

#6917 3 years ago

Fingers crossed that Lyman adds more haunts.i think he should have multiple haunts for each window.the possibilities are endless if he does this. I have heard they secured over 40 movies for this game so right now you could say we have 10-12 .gappa, santa, teenagers from outer space, the brain that wouldn't die, night of the living dead, werewolf of Washington, the manster, satanic right of dracula, Gila monster, manos

How do you secure movies that are public domain? That's the reason Elvira hosted them in the first place.

PBL has the 3 wire receiver listed.
I would imagine that, if you reached out, they could acquire the transmitter, too.

Hi guys! I just added an Elvira HoH to my JP Prem / AIQ Prem. I only have room for 3 machines, and these are my three

I see this thread is very long, and am wondering if there’s anything I should do today (day 1) as I set it up? I have pinstadiums on the other two, but this game seems like it should be darker?

I’ll check and update code first thing. Any playfield protection / fixes that are must-haves or should I just play the damned thing and stop worrying about it :p

Super excited - love this machine when I’ve played it at a local arcade

Thank you!!!

check the first post in the thread it has links to fixes etc.
I think the #1 thing tho is to determine when it was built(check sticker on the back) if it was build pre nov 2019 you might need some different fixes that were corrected after that date(house diverter fix ect) #2 grab a few beers and read the whole thread .. i like to browse the threads pics from oldest to newest and if something looks interesting I click the post number and read from there.. good way to scan thru whole thing.

Check the power of the trough eject.. brand new mine was on full and within 10 games it was chipping the clearcoat off where it ejects.. lowering it to about 165 gives it enough strength without slamming..
I love this game with Mirror Blades and Shaker motor and Medysinal's crypt kicker gargoyle and mausoleum mods are the essentials(tho you might prefer art blades)

#6924 3 years ago

so i've been lazy and haven't done any maintenance in while so this am took things apart and had a look.
I was finding that my trunk door wasn't raising as high or snappy any more.. taking the front off the trunk I could see hinge screw was almost completely out and the end was stripped abit(just lifting the lid manually and wiggling it popped out so was gonna happen any game) got that all reattached and its working great now.
I also used a cloths hanger to create a bracket that i superglued to little ufo .. want to see if with vibration it will stay attached or if I'll need to get an epoxy.

I really like the spot beside the house you get the spotlights and its were a couple saucers are on the backboard.. if it stays secure for a couple weeks I'll work on converting the internal led lights on it to run off of power vs batteries. overall tho I think it really matches the game well.

Thanks for the info! Mine was built June 2020. Had 7 plays on the clock. It had version .96 or .98 so I’m updating it to 1.01 now.

I’ve ordered a shaker and side art blades for it, and also have a set of Pinstadiums coming in - they were for an incoming Avengers IQ game (that I won!) but it’s months out, so I might install them here and go with a purple theme to help with some of the glass glare

Love the ideas of the smaller game mods and haven’t seen those before. I’ll check them out!

So far, the ball seems to get stuck up by bumpers and in a few spots now and then, but the ball search has taken care of them all.

Gonna be a fun machine I can tell!

I was wondering how ball times are on Elvira? Are they super long like Lord of the Rings, TSPP, BM66 or WOZ?

If you’re a good/decent player then the ball time can get long. Especially with all of the multiballs to go for....Garage multiball,Trunk multiball, and all the other mini wizard modes so this pin gives you plenty of chances to keep your game going. If you’re looking for a punishing pin with short times EHOH isn’t that pin.

Depends on if you close the outlanes at all. They come from the factory wide open.

Not looking for punishing, but I also had TSPP and I never knew if I was going to have a 10 minute game or an hour. Deadpool was kind of the upper end of ball times that I like.

Hi all

Elvira Cellar optic
- Tech Alert

My cellar optics refuse to work / see the ball

Both sides light up But does not function

However if I press down on the 3 wire receiver the led does go out triggering a switch closure in test

Any ideas ? Or points that may help

Thanks for your time

Your boards looks pretty toasty (especially the 3 wire board). I would just get a new 3 wire board. Stern uses lead free solder. Make sure you use the same to reassemble. Your board looks damaged from too much heat. Silver solder melts at a higher temp so it is easy to destroy the solder pads. Make sure you use a decent variable temperature soldering iron that is set just hot enough to liquify the silver solder.

Yes I received the game that way

Sadly yes some pretty lousy work done to I also some extra holes were made by the cellar hole so if anyone can let me know which one is factory I can put this back together properly once the optic boards are on hand

Thanks

Interesting. They both might be factory. Take a look in the photo gallery for the LE. I posted under playfield photos that might help.

Hi guys, I received this game NIB about 3 weeks ago and love it!!!! Probably the best pinball I’ve ever owned/played! Amazing.
I’ve played 132 games on it so far and have had only a couple of things. The screw and nut came off one of the gargoyle rods, starting hitting the glass. Done, easy fix. But another one of the gargoyles has flown off! Do you just super glue it back on!? Won’t stay.
Also getting over the bloody ball not locking and just rolling back down when i shot a open house shot to start a mode! I have looked into it but can’t quite work it out. I’m going to have to investigate more. Starting to get very annoying.
Would appreciate your support.

Gargoyle should not hit glass as it will eventually break off.
I tried making stops out of pull ties but they would not stay in position. A little duck tape about 3 inches from the bottom works fine. You can reglue gargoyle.

#6939 3 years ago

Also, your ball problem-make sure your pin is set at correct angle and especially level left to right. Otherwise you might have investigate further.

Used glue - seems to be holding for now

Anyone happen to have any pics of the GI LED under the left and right backlit plastics in their apron? I'm trying to determine if the location of those LED's varies from machine to machine.

The gargoyles are designed to hit the glass. Not hitting the glass is your personal preference. Please don't tell new owners to eliminate a design element.

#6944 3 years ago

The gargoyles will break off. I like the sound as well as the next person. The paint will also wear off the head leaving a white head. I doubt gargoyles are designed to snap off.

#6945 3 years ago

Left flipper coil wires aren't meant to break off of the lugs but that doesn't mean I'm going to stop using my left flipper to prevent it. Sorry you had a shitty go with yours, contact Stern and get a new one.

Yeah I think the fact that they hit the glass is one of the most clever little additions to the game. Always surprises first time players!

#6947 3 years ago

Gargoyles are designed to hit the glass. Push a bit of JB Weld up his butt, that ought to hold him.

Correct me if Im wrong but did someone make a mod for the right orbit so the spinner didnt block the flashing arrow insert? I though I seen something about it in this thread awhile back but couldn't find it.
