Hi All,

My first post here so go easy on me, I've owned a couple of pins now for a few months and am in the market for a Elvira and the party monsters. I found one yesterday, that was in really bad shape, I noticed some planking in the center of the PF, and from my experience with the two I have now (Catacomb and a Space Invaders), these two are silk screened PF's, the Elvira did not looked silk screened to me, it looked like a mylar covering the wood. I based that on the planking I saw didn't split the color/paint, as I've seen on silk screens PF's, but the surface looked bubbled. Also it looked to me that some of the inserts cupped/sunk, and there was an air gap between the insert, and a clear mylar cover over the insert which was part of the whole artwork.

Does what I'm describing sound correct for a late 80's Bally, did some pins have artwork PF's that weren't silk screened, but mylar?

I used to paint cars at for a living and have restored and cleared my first silkscreen PF, but from my painting experience you can't paint on mylar. So the repair/restore on this looked like a tuff proposition.

There was a factory mylar kit for Elvira, so whole playfield is probably covered in it, but there's silkscreened art under it. You're going to have to remove the mylar to do anything. My preferred method is to get canned air, turn them upside down, and freeze the glue, let's you pry up the mylar in brittle sheets. Some searching will get you a lot of info on that.

I've completely restored an Elvira playfield, including pulling the mylar first, might be able to answer questions for you. Best thing to do is post some pics first though, see what we're dealing with.

I didn't get pic's unfortunately, guy wanted 1900 for it, cab was in shambles, mylar faded/peeled everywhere then spray painted over, electronics missing, no displays, the PF had what I described, planking which now explains why the paint didn't split, the mylar was holding it.

I've heard of the freeze method for mylar, never tried that but will have to, but the whole playfield, ouch!!!

thanks for the info, at least I will know what I'm looking at now....

lol $1900, pass! Take the 1 off the front and we can talk. I paid that for mine, and I had to retouch whole playfield, replace displays, buy plastics and cab decals etc.

Yeah, now is not a good time for restoring EATPM's. Been waiting for cabinet Decals and Ramps for a few months now. Also hard to find are plastics and insert decals. If you do find a decent one, join the Elvira club I started and you will get plenty help and ideas there.Good luck in your search!

Yikes. That's a lot of money for a basket case.

I forget, has CPR officially announced the playfields yet? They're coming, I know that. I'm no longer interested since I'm pretty happy with the full restore I did, so I kind tuned out. Something to keep in mind though.

I had a couple broken plastics, managed to find individual pieces from pinballcenter.eu. Sucks paying Euros, but paying $40 for 3 plastics plus $12 shipping is still better than paying $160 for a full kit I don't need:
