You know, the himbo who played Flash Gordon is gonna be at tpf also - doesn't mean a new Flash Gordon game is coming out.

Elvira makes personal appearances all the time everywhere. It's her job. Doesn't mean a new Elvira game is coming out.

#24 7 years ago

Yes. Another hint that she'll be at TPF.

#42 7 years ago
Quoted from rubberducks:

You do realise she's 65 now?

She's "hollywood" 65 which probably means she's the wrong side of 70. Still there's a lot to be said for experience. Lots, and lots of experience. Plus, she can tell you about what it was like growing up in the 1950s.

#50 7 years ago
Quoted from jgentry:

I think it's funny all of the people hating on WNBJM. Get a group of friends together and play some multiplayer games on it. It's one of the best 4 player games ever made.

It's actually not as good as almost every 1970s gottlieb 4 player or late 1970s Bally 4-player, and a bunch of 1970s williams four players. Which isn't a shock because it's based upon a crappy 1950s game. There's very little going on in Nellie and almost no progressive or interesting scoring features. It's a true bat the ball around, keep it in play game where almost everything is worth the same.

I like Nellie, it's fun, but your statement sounds like someone who hasn't played a lot of EMs.

#58 7 years ago
Quoted from jgentry:

I strongly disagree but that's just my opinion. Just like you have your own different opinion.
I've played a lot of EM's but probably not nearly as many as you. Many are fun. But they do not play as fast and lively as WNBJM, they do not have call outs or dynamic sound packages, they are not as bright, they do not have a high score LCD, and they do not have early as much code as WNBJM. There's a lot more to getting a high score then keeping the ball alive. You can keep it alive for a long time and not score jack if you don't know what you are doing and you are not making shots.

Opinions can't be wrong. I like Nellie (of course would never pay anywhere close to asking for it but that's neither here nor there).

But...

If you think Nellie has more "code" than almost every 1970s Gottlieb EM, I really don't know what to tell you. Nellie is shallower than almost any other 1970s EM I can think of.

I'm glad you like Nellie, but you really need to play some quality EMs in the situation you described - with friends, over drinks, competitvely - before you make statements that make absolutely no sense. Playing one ball on a target alpha at a show and walking away really isn't the same thing.

I'll give you the sound and LCD screen and that it's "brighter" but I guess I don't care about that stuff when I'm playing that style of game. I will see your "strongly disagree" and raise it with a "times two."

"one of the best four player ever"....man...you realize you can buy a Bow and Arrow or Jungle Queen for 500 bucks and have a much better game than Nellie, right? If not a unique experience and interesting hybrid, which is what you are paying for and getting with a Nellie.

This isn't to insult you or call you an idiot. I just think you are missing out on dozens if not HUNDREDS of great games out there. Or maybe you just like the novelty that is the total package of Nellie. But man, there are so many fantastic older games of this style.

#115 7 years ago

It doesn't matter how "relevant" a pinball theme is for young people. A pinball theme is only "relevant" if it sells.

The question is, are there enough older people with disposable income who STILL haven't had enough of the thin, ancient joke that is elvira?

Based upon the strong holding value of her old titles and the wheezing enthusiasm of this thread, id say yes. Yet another Elvira game would probably sell, proving it relevant.

Quoted from Britt-in-VA:

Oh man, I've been out of the hobby completely for the past year after a move to a new house with limited space for pinball, but I've been looking to get back in.
This would be my first NIB purchase ever. Can anybody help a NIB newb with the overview of how a pre-order works? Payment schedule and amounts, roundabouts? Thanks.

Preordering is very simple.

You send someone a bunch of money for no reason and then sit around waiting for your game while others who didn't pre-order impulse buy them and play in their homes while you wait.

It's a pretty cool system.

Quoted from benheck:

I have not.
SPECULATION: This game will never get released.

It's hard for me not to have the same feeling.

Elivra 3 was never actually announced by Stern, right?

Quoted from tpir:

There's even a "69" in the trailer. So everyone can rest easy knowing this table will not be contributing to any further erosion of our great nation

Unless there is a special “rape monkey LE” all hope is lost!!

That's horrible. Reads like a sick donkey bleating.

Elvira3 or E3 for you brevity types.

is much more pleasing to the eye.

Quoted from Pickle:

If you don’t like boobs then this is not the game for you...go start a Smurf’s pinball thread or something. Various parts of the female anatomy are what NATURE intended for males to like. So we would breed and maintain a population to survive...so someone saying they like boobies is not creepy. Sexual predators/pedophiles and such are creepy if you want to go that route. So if you have a problem with it go change the laws of Mother Nature and good luck with that. Elvira is a character that was created and it is what it is...Sex sells and Cassandra know it and why it worked.....it’s still used in advertising EVERYWHERE today because it works. And by today’s standards it’s really pretty tame. Nothing wrong with a little horror themed humor and sexual innuendos thrown together....it’s not porn for crying out loud....
And not every game has to be family friendly....it sounds like some want Elvira but only if she is dressed as a Nun. Move along this is not the game you are looking for.

So far precisely ZERO people here have said they do not like boobs

So what exactly are you blathering on about, and why?

And how many more hundreds of these posts are we going to have to endure? The only people whining about political correctness in this thread are people
Who claim to hate political correctness.

Stop it Social Injustice Warriors! It makes you look dumb. Everybody loves Elvira, and her boobs. Fact.

#934 4 years ago
Quoted from Honch:

Actually, what I think people want (actual interested buyers) is for the artwork to stay true to the theme.

No, they are interested in typing “SJW” as many times as possible, as quickly as possible, and as obnoxiously as possible, for no discernible reason.

Sometimes I seriously wonder what is wrong with half the people here.

I’m sure you guys will get lots of boobs in the game, it’s kinda Elvira’s thing. So relax.

#936 4 years ago
Quoted from Daditude:

2 year old thread.
Someone was ahead of the curve!

Didn’t they officially announce an E3 game two years ago? It’s just been a slow cooker.

#941 4 years ago

Oh thank you Jesus! BOOOOOOBS!

Take that, gloria Steinam!!!

Looks super cool. Nice work on the sneak peak. I’m sure the official pics will be out soon.

#945 4 years ago

Stern does it again! I love it.

Did they get the same artist who did the old games?

#1227 4 years ago

Damn so we all hate this, with occasional sporadic bursts of hope and unabated “SJW” whining?

I’m going back to bed.

#1237 4 years ago
Quoted from bobukcat:

How dare you be positive in this thread?!?!

You just never know what you’ll get out of this crowd. I last checked in here at noon when the photos came out. Figured everybody would be creaming their jeans at the boobs and the big mansion and such.

23 hours later I find everybody hates it.

Also SJW!

So I guess I don’t have this place figured out after all. But I also find I’m less interested than ever in caring.

Anyway go Redskins! Whip them Cowboys!!

#1240 4 years ago
Quoted from Richthofen:

So you love what makes the game different, and want the same thing in a new game. Got it.
Action of the game is on the playfield. The spider wheel is just a rip off of the cyclone wheel. EHOH will sell if it’s fun to play.

Yeah, “we want something new and innovative/why isn’t this exactly like some 20 year old game” is always a funny one.

#1247 4 years ago
Quoted from iceman44:

No mentions of "not buying because of PF situation with Stern". LOL
It's LYMAN SHEETS, we all know what he does with games and he's got a lot to work with here.
Compare this layout to BM66. That's now a GREAT pin because of Lyman's work.
Not to mention the video assets and integration with Stern have been elevated to another level!

If E3 were a state, fair to say it would be Texas! Game’s gonna rule!

#1289 4 years ago

I can’t wait to play E3 at E3!!!

#1357 4 years ago
Quoted from JonCrox:

Neil take a break!![quoted image]

Guaranteed minimum one “is Lyman on code?” Post per page of this thread till mid October.

#1447 4 years ago
Quoted from TheLaw:

Seems easy; "Ev3" for me.

Well, see, here's the problem with this. There's one of those fat guy / disabled person scooters called an "EV3" so we don't want anybody to get confused!!!

Therefore it must be EHo3HVH. It's the only logical choice.

Quoted from Pinball-Wiz:

I can't believe it's been 2.5 years since Cassandra leaked this at the TPF. Luckily someone caught it on video, was here and I remember Stern was upset that she leaked it.

Did she say who's going to be on code?!?!

#1471 4 years ago
Quoted from gunstarhero:

Elvira is campy with some innuendo, I sure wouldn’t call it raunchy.

Elvira existed solely on TV, PG-13 rated movies, and beer commercials. She's about as raunchy as an episode of Three's Company.

I'm not quite sure people are really even remembering Elvira correctly. Maybe getting her confused with Linda Lovelace?

And yet it seems like if the game doesn't feature her getting titty fucked by a horse or gangbanged by the Universal Monsters people are going to be disappointed that Stern made the game too "PC."

Seriously folks - if you can stop reflexively typing "SJW" over and over, what are the "raunchiest" things in the previous Elvira games? "Nice organ?" "That'll get him up?" Are you really worried that Stern is going to nix stuff like that at the behest of feminists who all seem to like Elvira anyway? (at least the ones I know).

#1478 4 years ago

I seriously think that is what it would take to keep this crowd happy.

#1507 4 years ago
Quoted from jfh:

Robert, I usually defer to you in all things Elvira - but E3 is much simpler and has already been used for the last two years while we waited for official confirmation of the title.

We all E3 up in this bitch.

Sorry Robert!

#1521 4 years ago
Quoted from Wickerman2:

I bet you're a real looker too

Man he's been on the warpath lately.

James, what's going on buddy? I haven't seen you this agitated about gender relations since you got thrown out of that health club 10 years ago.

Relax man! Tranquillo. Be cool!

#1525 4 years ago
Quoted from Jackalwere:

It should just be HOH. Scared Stiff is SS, not ESS, nor is it E2.

Why does everybody keep trying to apply some kind of scientific logic to this?

I'm actually for retrofitting All elviras by number. I will be starting a thread and poll shortly.

#1543 4 years ago

E3: The people's acronym!!!!!

Don't believe the lamestream "polls" as they are incorrect reporting!!

#1549 4 years ago
Quoted from Lounge:

Oh my god - stop.... please just stop.

I think you mean OMGSPJS

#1594 4 years ago

So for the record:

I believe E3HO is the first game ever with a 69 joke on the playfield?

We are making dirty history with this game, and I like it!

#1629 4 years ago
Quoted from pinmister:

I know lots of people are excited and I don't want to be Debbie Downer but am I the only one that thinks the pricing for this theme and title are crazy?

Yeah, just you. And like 75 other guys.

Doesn't anybody read any of this stuff around here, or are all we all just pissin' in the wind?

#1634 4 years ago

I think we should use TMNT2 for the forthcoming "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Dumb Sewer Pizza Adventure for 90s 12 Year Olds" pin.

What say you?!

#1645 4 years ago
Quoted from musketd:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to ELVIRA today

E68!!!!

Hell yes...that means next year...

Super exclusive ad from the Pinside Marketplace!
#1667 4 years ago
Quoted from MikeS:

I doubt we'll ever see a KME/Lyman collaboration because Keith likes developing his own rules and I don't think Stern could afford to put their best two assets on the same game.

I agree. Plus, Keith works fast, and Lyman works slow.

Quoted from TheLaw:

It doesn't worry me that much because I don;t think Dwight came up with the idea of the Munsters code, it's nothing like his work.
Now, if you didn't care for SW & GOT as well i could totally understand that.

This is also true. Avoid Dwight games if you hate Munsters, but not if you like button mashing multiplier character path stuff. I doubt we'll see anything as bare bones as Munsters anytime soon.

#1699 4 years ago
Quoted from TheLaw:

Sadly I've had to make it many times over the years becasue people STILL think the prices are going to lower

"If Stern wants to continue to dominate the market they need to slash prices 25 percent!"

#1730 4 years ago
Quoted from littlecammi:

Where'd you get the recent pic of Mick Jagger?

The internet!

(was there any question? It's Mick.)

#1748 4 years ago
Quoted from Honch:

Prices are getting crazy. At what point do they become too expensive to put on location?

Child's play.

Some of those video games you see at Dave and Buster's are like $40,000 and up.

#1751 4 years ago
Quoted from Rarehero:

Those games get away with that price because of the constant flow of dollars they bring in. Pinball, even in a good location, won’t bring in the money kiddie-gambling machines do. Also, no one is buying those games for home use.

Right.

But they cost more and are on location. All I wanted to point out really.

#1807 4 years ago
Quoted from Rarehero:

LOL but weirdly posed, poorly colored, giant head Elvira will part people from $10k?
Once again - outside the pinball cult looking in. Fascinating.

It doesn’t really look like official Elvira stuff dude. More like fan art. Which it is.

Sorry man!

#1874 4 years ago
Quoted from bigd1979:

If the premiums cld be bought for 7300-7400 id probably get one as i love Dennis design's and Lymans code.

If the premiums could be bought for $3500 I'd take two of them!

Quoted from Whysnow:

At this point, I think the most important question to confirm is 'WHO is on code

Et tu, Whysnow?!

#1879 4 years ago
Quoted from BMore-Pinball:

If it's Kapow - then they get a % of the selling price - hence the need for the inflated higher prices
but both Kapow pins have been reskins, is this a reskin?

Calling Beatles a reskin is a stretch (not a single post from the original Seawitch design is in the same place).

Calling Batman 66 a reskin is ridiculous. The entire left 2/3rds of the playfield is different.

#1892 4 years ago

God hate the word "titular."

Still game looks awesome. Better trailer than usual from Stern.

So do we love it now or do we still hate it? It's hard to keep up.

#1894 4 years ago
Quoted from seenev:

Love it at $5k, hate it at $10k.

Mild distaste mixed with lukewarm excitement at $7999?

#1909 4 years ago
Quoted from robertmee:

Nothing awe inspiring

What was the last "awe inspiring" moment a new pinball machine brought you?

#1920 4 years ago
Quoted from robertmee:

New to me, pinball magic. Levitating ball, magnetic wand, top hat reverse skill shot. But yes, your point, Sterns designs dont scream innovation.

So all of your awe-inspiring pinball moments are 25 years old. Maybe stop expecting that kind of thing from a pinball machine? Also there's 47 pinball companies now, yet you lay the "lack of innovation" complaint solely on Stern?

Quoted from benheck:

Wow, lots of mechs! Cool!

Is it too early to start counting coils?

#1928 4 years ago
Quoted from jfh:

So where is the Stern press release?

It's as awesome as you'd expect from a global lifestyle brand based on the iconic and outrageously fun modern American game of pinball:

Stern Pinball Announces New Elvira’s House of Horrors Pinball Machines

CHICAGO, IL – September 18, 2019 – Stern Pinball, Inc., a global lifestyle brand based on the iconic and outrageously fun modern American game of pinball, announced today the availability of a new line of pinball machines celebrating the iconic character, Elvira, Mistress of the Dark! The game was developed in collaboration with the Whizbang Pinball Studio team of Greg Freres and Dennis Nordman. Greg and Dennis developed the first two Elvira games. Elvira’s House of Horrors pinball machines will be available in Premium, Limited Edition, and Signature Edition models.

The taunting is over and the haunting begins in the third and campiest installment of the Elvira pinball trilogy! Trying to sell her mansion through “Alternate Realty”, Elvira’s house is haunted by the movie characters from her past. These ghouls, ghosts, monsters, and strange assortment of vintage characters with horrific acting skills seek revenge on Elvira while she and the player confront them, sending them back to the “film” from which they came! Elvira’s House of Horrors immerses players in a fun, campy, B-movie universe filled with all of the humor expected from the Mistress of the Dark including custom speech and, in a pinball first, exclusive filming of Elvira for custom video scenes featured throughout the game!

The Premium, Limited Edition, and Signature Edition models all feature Elvira’s “House of Horrors”, a frightening Victorian fixer-upper, full of creepy charm and supernatural surprises. Players can gain access to the mansion through the front door, the cellar, or through the garage which is guarded by a gravestone drop-target. An orchestra of color changing RGB lights accentuates the house in sync with the different “House Haunts” featured throughout the game. Lighted windows and a spinning attic turret track players’ progression on their pinball journey.

If a haunted mansion wasn’t enough to keep your skin crawling, beware of the “Deadhead Family Crypt”! This mausoleum houses a variety of characters that need an awakening courtesy of a steel silver ball to their head. This interactive crypt will keep players on their toes with the Crypt entrance unleashing balls from a separate location while also becoming a physical bash toy. And with Elvira’s pending move from her hopeful home sale, the interactive Elvira’s “Junk in the Trunk” toy allows players to lock balls for a frantic two-ball multiball.

“It was a pleasure to work directly with the Mistress of the Dark on this third collaboration,” said Gary Stern, Chairman and CEO of Stern Pinball, Inc. “Elvira’s House of Horrors pinball is a haunting fun time!”

The Limited Edition model is limited to 400 units globally. The Limited Edition model includes additional unique features such as a sequentially numbered plaque, an exclusive mirrored backglass, exclusive custom themed cabinet artwork, a custom autographed bottom arch, exclusive custom art blades, anti-reflection pinball glass, and a shaker motor.

The highly collectible Signature Edition model is limited to 50 units globally. The Signature Edition model includes all features of the Limited Edition game, plus special hyper-chrome embossed cabinet decals, a personally autographed Elvira collectible trading card with cover and mounting, and a signed special Elvira certificate of authenticity that includes a swatch of fabric from Elvira’s iconic red velvet sofa.

Complementing the immersive theme and exciting gameplay experience, Stern Pinball’s powerful SPIKE™ electronics hardware system enables high-definition graphics and innovative animations on the video display. SPIKE™ reduces system complexity and energy usage resulting in enhanced reliability and simplified servicing. The state-of-the-art electronic system also powers a high-fidelity 3-channel audio system that is three times more powerful than audio systems of previous generations.

Quoted from robertmee:

Hyperbole, much...47 companies...wow, I had no idea! And yes, as an example, it took jjp to bring LCD to market, not stern. Other than pumping out games, please illuminate me to where Stern is innovating?

Innovation sucks in pinball and if that's what you want, find a new hobby, you aren't going find your "awe inspired" in this one. I'm surprised you haven't figured that out in a quarter century. Clearly, the iconic and outrageously fun modern American game of pinball is not for you.

#1946 4 years ago
Quoted from Richthofen:

Oh, I see, the ball rolls over the top of the trunk when down, and is captured by the trunk like a diverter when lit. That's really cool.

I like stuff like that! Reminds me of the fault in Earthshaker.

#1950 4 years ago
Quoted from Hayfarmer:

Havent heard anything about music or sound, or specific callouts

If past trailers are any indication the music in the trailer is probably in the game.

Quoted from Sinestro:

I don't consider Bingos to be pinball. So let's go back to the 30's flipperless pinball.

The first time saw electromechanical pop bumpers it was positively awe-inspiring. My world was forged that day.

Come on Stern!!! Step it up!!!

#2000 4 years ago
Quoted from robertmee:

Good summation...similar to my thoughts as well. The side VUK seems pointless as an airball launcher.

Hey let's be fair - it's innovative at least!

Not sure if it's pointless. The point is to shoot the ball across the playfield and hit the standups. Perhaps it will be visually pleasing?

How long until we get our first cheap mod post?

I hope that haunted house is built strong enough to support the many pounds of fake spiderwebs and ghouls its going to be subjected to.

Quoted from DennisNordman:

Cassandra may be your mom's age, but Elvira isn't, she's a character. How old is Batman? How about all those wrinkled old men rock stars? Are they better to look at?

Not to mention, Elvira is kinda like KISS, and not just because they've had careers that far outlasted any reasonable expectation.

That many pounds of makeup hides a lot of age-related sins. I'm sure Cassandra still looks great in full Elvira drag. Just like Paul Stanley!

Quoted from rai:

noticed the larger start button interesting to see if that will be normal going forward.

That's been on a few games already dude.

#2064 4 years ago
Quoted from Halfwasted:

Higher break even point... The end.

Not really, when you consider the inherent value of games these days.

An op I know is routinely selling off 5 year old equipment for $1000-1500 less than he paid for it, regardless of pro/prem/LE. His break-even point is really long before his coin take reaches the purchase price of the machine.

#2074 4 years ago
Quoted from Rondogg:

Stay Away. Ironically, that's exactly what I'll be doing until the playfield clear issues are resolved.[quoted image]

That's not ironic. It's just a thing.

Quoted from brucipher:

Wow...Stern Premium's are now basically the same price as JJP standards (assuming the Willy Wonka model will continue at JJP). I imagine that is their basis for pricing.

I think you got that backwards. JJP's premium pricing on Wonka was clearly intended to compete with Stern premiums, not the other way around.

#2258 4 years ago
Quoted from Skyemont:

Look what prices and clear coat issues can do. I love Elvira. I have owned EATPM and i own a SS. I really wanted this game.

You know those polls are not contractually binding and likely don't necessarily reflect reality right?

I voted in it and I've never bought an NIB game in my life.

#2289 4 years ago
Quoted from yancy:

Movie copyright in the US lasts for 95 years, which easily covers all 26 films in EHOH. It's possible some of them have lapsed due to non-renewal, but I definitely wouldn't assume they're all free.

Movies go Public Domain for a number of reasons, including most famously Night of the Living Dead which has been PD since it was released in 1968.

It's no surprise most of these movies were also featured on MST3K. They didn't have to pay anybody to use them as they are mostly (or all?) public domain.

#2305 4 years ago

Yes. And GOT. And Aerosmith. And Beatles. And Ghostbusters. And KISS. And Walking Dead.

I think pretty much all of them. Toppers are just another garby cash garb!

Why do these threads always turn into show and tell?

“Elvira? No thanks, I’ll stick with my well-modded Tron with a color dmd, Pink powdercoat, and signed instruction cards from the second unit director. It’s near mint with only a couple scratches underneath the game thanks to an overzealous, lightly modded Schnauzer with aftermarket grooming and a custom, schnauzer Refinery collar. He’s a good dog just gets excited. He’s near mint with papers - comes from a championship bloodline. Sometime he likes to sleep underneath another game that isn’t Elvira, my gorgeous fully restored HEP high speed 2 with pinsound board...”

Cool thanks for the info!

Quoted from jeffspinballpalace:

Sounds like code is early, so why is Stern releasing the game now?

That's a good question. I'm not against releasing games "early" per se - it's been a pretty successful model for them. But Stern has been cranking out so many games lately I don't think it hurts them any to hold this back another 6 months - year.

This being said, we heard all these complaints with Batman 66, which was revealed before it was even flipping and released about 2 years away from mature code. And it all worked out.

You can buy these games now, or you can buy them in two years when the code is mature, or not buy one at all and just tell us about the MBLE you just bought for no reason. It's up to you. Some people just want the game and don't mind seeing it evolve while they own it. Some people want the game now and melt down when the code takes so long, despite past precedent. And some people don't want the game at all but love complaining about code.

So there's something for everybody.
