Quoted from Vespula:

I can say the same about my $9500 GNR (go ahead & hate away) in regards to fun. The EJ owners are having as much fun and resemble the same experience as I do with GNR...but maybe the difference is it's too hard for most people to grasp and play right away, whereas it sounds like Elton is more like ts4 which I have played and enjoyed on location right away.
I Like EJ, I won't get it, but just from watching videos and reading here I am sure it's great fun. Along with many other pins, with enough room and extra cash I would definitely own it. But I have neither right now.
It's a beauty for sure.

No hate from me. I actually really like GNR and am in the market for an LE. I think you nailed it though that GNR isn’t as approachable to just walk up and play as Elton is. I actually love the GNR code. I think it’s super fun to try and prep the best you can before starting a song and the combinations and possibilities with patches is super enjoyable to me. They are both amazing games, but very different.

Except an EJ to be enjoyed more by wife and friends (like that Munsters) is a high price to pay for atonement.
For $15k- almost the price of 2 machines by any other manufacturer- that pin needs to by MY obsession to play. That’s not happening so far (for me.) But I am dazzled by the music, lights and toys.

Great point. My wife LOVES Elton (the musician), but has 0 interest in pinball. Would she play Elton? Probably not, but if she did, it would be REALLY infrequent.

When my kids were young, their opinions factored into my game selection, but they are now 30 and really aren't interested anymore. So I primarily buy what turns me on. Munsters lasted 3 weeks in my house...really uninspired game for my taste.

Funny FS ad..."it's a keeper", but I'm moving and therefore selling Newsflash to seller: Movers are capable of moving pinball machines! I just moved 12 from Florida to Maryland without a scratch.

You’ll never see me putting that bullshit in a for sale ad.

Do buyers really want the dog and pony show?!

For some reason some like to tell a story.
I’d just prefer less blurry pics.

Well, if the seller is being truthful and "will probably repurchase early next year" he must be anticipating picking one up for less down the road (which is what happens with many JJP games, so he may be making a good financial move if he finds a buyer @ 13k I sold my GNR in the 9's IIRC and they can be found in the 6's now.

I want this on a bumper sticker.

With "Bolted!” on the other side of the bumper

#5209 78 days ago

That ripped side art makes me cringe. Purchase a 15k machine and then have that happen. There are solution to prevent that! I never lift the playfield without side art protectors.

As far as bolted to floor, it is clear that many Pinsiders have learned that bolts are easily removed.

Well said. This game is currently the goat in our home and by many over that play it. Really enjoying the entire collection, but this one is just a notch above for us.

Yes, it’s just a fun pin. We’ve got a variety of pins of different ages here, and - having hired EJ for a month - it fitted in pretty well and we bought one. Our pins don’t typically turn over that fast given we’ve only been in the hobby since 2021. We have lots of opportunities to play on location so tend to only buy in things that will last the distance when played (almost) daily.

Our kids really like the Elton John. It’s got the classic Steve Ritchie layout in a colourful, glittery package with an easy-to-understand ruleset, and people-pleasing music. There isn’t a lot to *dislike* (except the price) and it’s pretty blinged out of the box

I don’t expect it to soar in value, but I didn’t buy it as an investment.

Its also funny that its the second EJ that I'm aware of where somebody claimed they HAD to sell because they were moving

It never sold, I hope the OP wasn't just stuck at their old house since they couldn't move with their new game

Never understood that, either. If I ever move, the pins come with me. If we found a house we liked that couldn't fit them...oh, well: Time to keep shopping for a house.

If the Pinside database is accurate, he has 0 games designed by SR (which might explain the bold statement). I currently have several SR games (STTNG, AC/DC Premium, LZLE), which is why I'm not in a rush to get EJ. IMHO SR games have a similar/familiar flow/feel. I recently picked up LZLE and I'm surprised by how much I like it...doesn't get much love and LZLE (500 made) is dramatically less expensive than EJCE (1000 made).

They are hard to come by second hand in Canada. I was waiting for one used and finally just gave in and bought NIB.

Yeah, that’s basically why we own a EJ. I like SR pins, but never liked one enough to buy. I always fancied a JJP, but none of them played well enough to buy. EJ scratched both itches.

No interest in LZ - I hate the music, the artwork, the empty playfield… the music…

EJ is level-pegging with our stone-cold classics, e.g. AFM, GZ and JP2 for how popular it is with both our family and visitors.

We bought NIB because not many were selling here in the UK - so, no realistic possibility to pick up second hand.

Yeah...Kashmir is an absolute piece of shit.

(Disclaimer: I own both games. LZ is pretty awesome, but in a completely different way. And you shouldn't judge a game by how "empty" it is. Zeppelin is flowy and fast. And by your definition of great pinball, AFM is complete garbage because of how empty it is.)

#5226 63 days ago

I just started reading this thread from the beginning, and it's full of many ignorant prognosticators in the first several pages. Quite entertaining.

EJ has become Steve Ritchie's highest rated game on Pinside - hardly the biggest flop in modern pinball.

Quoted from TigerLaw:

This will be the biggest flop in modern pinball…not by a little, but by a lot. I have a ton of pinball friends I’ve made over the years, I do not know a single person who is going to be buying an Elton John theme’d machine…not one person.
It is literally like they are trying to pick bad themes.
I liked Godfather, not because of the old movies but just because its gangsters/mobsters…but Elton John is not savable…it is going to be all about Elton John and his ancient music.

Quoted from TigerLaw:

It will not sell as many units as GTF…

Some people will not buy a fun game because of the theme, but happily buy a no fun game because of the theme.

EJ has gained popularity because of the implementation of design and code.

Kudos to Steve Ritchie and the design team.

Actually, I’ve owned HSII (twice) and SM (2007) for many years, so am familiar with the Ritchie design and flow - big fan! EJ has that Ritchie experience in spades but is coupled with the JJP flare that provides a stunning landscape to play on. The much improved flippers, light show, and sound with the SR touch is a recipe for fun.

I just picked up a POTCLE from a fellow pinsider in Canada - SR is his favourite designer. When he delivered the game he gave EJ a go. He said he heard all the hype of the game, and after playing it, said it lived up to it big time. He wished he hadn’t played it

For folks that love SR designs and Elton John, it's a game that's worth owning at some point. For me (a fan of both), waiting a year or so isn't a problem...no FOMO. Happy to pickup a loved unit from a fellow collector...NIB is over rated.

Dead in here. Checked the calendar and fall season is upon us. The other thing falling besides leaves are the re-sale prices on EJ. A slew have been listed in the last few weeks and now another PE today due to X-MEN LE release. Throw in Avatar next week and AAIW and EJ bolts will be magically disappearing. 10k for a nice PE might just tempt me.

Happens on my Godfather CE intermittently. Loose connectors somewhere under the playfield or in the back box. Carefully inspect and reseat connectors tied to the offending lamp board.

It's clear you really want one. But instead of getting one, you'd rather post here about the price dropping.

Just buy one, you cheap mf. It's more fun playing the game than whining about the price.

Check the USB cable connector to the board. On my EJ, I had a USB port physically separate from a light board. JJP replaced the board under warranty. Pic below. In my case, I never got an error like your pic shows, I noticed a bunch of lights were out one day and diags showed the board was out.

Is there a way to just play the songs and have them cycle thru the list?

I notice this and found out thst i still had a ball at the plunger and it just kept going playing the songs and light show.

Just curious if there was a way do that without starting a game

Man, I finally had a breakaway game with over 200M on ball one and the game ended up with three balls stuck in the piano and couldn’t release them. I then tried to shake the balls loose and ended up in an unrecoverable tilt situation. That could have been a huge game. had just started champ multiball for the first time and was in the zone. What was such a cool mode and not easy to start!

Anyway, I figured it out. The mirror balls were heavily magnetized and sticking together in the piano. I installed new balls and then had another great game and ended up with a 301M GC score, but didn’t get anywhere close to starting Champ MB again. This game doesn’t seem to like mirror balls.

One issue I need resolved is there’s an intermittent “Hardware Lamp Board #7 Error” that pops up randomly during gameplay. It’s clearly vibration related. Does anyone know which board is #7 and which connectors to check?

Lastly, what is this metal bracket thing that the original owner included with the game? Is this some sort of packing material gizmo I can chuck in the trash or should I keep it?

Loving this pin, it flows so well and is very challenging. More fun than Godfather which has an odd playfield layout that is just frustrating to play.

Also, the volume gets super loud during multiball and signature stage modes. Which setting should I play with to level the volume in this game? It’s startling how loud it gets during some multiball modes. I have master volume between 22 and 25

Yep, mirror balls get magnified. Stick with originals only. Volume is designed to go up during ramped up game play. You can turn that off in settings.
