Hope I'm not oversharing or talking too much here, but I thought I would share a screen shot of my custom Elektra style I made for iScored. If you haven't used it or aren't aware of it, it's definitely worth checking out. Especially on these older SS games with no ability to use names or initials.

I've never tried the iScored app but it is nice to see someone made a display for Elektra to use in it.

Anyone have a source for the GI triacs? Got my project booting. Want to sort out all the issue before I tear it apart for a restoration. GI is grounded from the ground braid straight to an alligator clip on the ground lug on the power board. Main GI is on at all times with that and lower GI never turns on.

#654 5 years ago

I’m also looking for 2 GI triacs for my Elektra as I had to borrow 2 to get mine flashing. In another thread they talk about using triacs from Marcos. Think they were From Williams games( can supply that number if anyone wants to try them)

Anyone know the ins and outs of this switch staging for elektra in the trough? 3 switches in play here. Not sure the order of sequence. The first piano wire arm has been modified. Guessing it broke and was extended with a new piece and som solder to hold it together. Currently the game just empties the trough if you start a game. Every switch works in switch test.

You may want to check out this Youtube video I found about Elektra. It covers exactly what you are looking for:

Could someone get a good picture of the 25-pin .100" connector on the upper right of the driver board? Listing out the pinout would be extremely helpful. What pins are empty and what colors are in each location. Im trying to confirm how it is supposed to be wired.

Looks like pin 2 is the keyway. Hope this helps.

CPR has been posting on their Facebook page all sorts of new playfields they may make. I talked to them and they had already done the artwork for the small lower playfield. I'd be happy if they would at least do the lower. Even better would be that and the upper as a set. A complete set would be cool but I think a lot would just be good with the upper and lower.

If you feel the same way and want a set let them know.

This was brought up at one point and they didn't want to do it because they didn't want owners complaining about the differences between the new playfields vs. the original main old used playfield.

They thought it wouldn't look right having 2 new ones clashing with the old original one.

I wouldn't mind having a new upper, my self. But, unfortunately that's a tough sell..... so I touched mine up and put a mylar sheet over it.

I hope someday they do, or someone does, a reproduction for Elektra.

#660 5 years ago

The bottom is different enough that they could get away with slight differences in color. It would be nice to get them to at least try making those.

#661 5 years ago

If they do, and I hope so, they should do all three. I actually have main playfield damage somehow. My upper and lower were touched up before I got it. Would like all new ones. There’s a lot of wiring under there. It looks like it would be one of the more intense pf swaps to do.

Yes, Elektra can be a cruel machine to work on with being so packed.

Speaking of opening it up there is a bad switch I need to track down. Switch 27 (actually three switches) aren't working right. Either they don't register or they start scoring on their own.

Maybe points set to close

The gaps seem ok but I'll double check them. Each of those switches have a cap and diode. Maybe one of those are bad.

Whridlsoncestood "Anyone know the ins and outs of this switch staging for elektra in the trough?"

Take a look at the photo gallery in this topic. I asked this same question and another pinsider posted photos of his piano wire. Your wire looks like it goes straight down with no bend. The bend needs to go towards the PF. That way, the switch is activated when the 2nd ball is in the trough.

Yeah I quickly figured the way the switch was bent was not working properly. Bent a new piece of piano wire and everything worked out.

If anyone needs new triacs...

Factory fit. No wonky wiring needed. Pricey but worth it for me.

In the club! Found a nice one locally, claimed single owner since new. A single owner at the beach. So a bit of surface rust and cabinet fade but a lovely playfield and backglass The worst, I’d say, is the mpu. It was heavily corroded so the guy’s tech dumped it.
I replaced the female mpu connectors and have an Altek in there now. She has no sound/speech (for now) and a few other issues to iron out but I’ll know more about that later.

I think knowing the correct mpu dipswitch settings would help me. Does anyone have a snapshot of their mpu dip switch settings I can use as a baseline?

Thanks! I look forward to reading all the club posts over the next few nights and taking lots of notes!

Hey everyone

Just ran into a issue with my Elektra!! My bottom playfield fuse burnt out and all the kickouts stopped working, I replaced it and all the kickouts seem to be working except the bottom playfield. When the ball goes into the bottom playfield it kicks out into play like it should but then when the ball goes back in it doesn't kick back out and just seems to be stuck there. Wondering if anyones got any troubleshooting tips?

Thanks

Joined the club...this game rocks!! Been on the wishlist for quite some time, but the Elektras I always came across were a mess, not working at all or not worth what asking price was.

Was able to get a pretty nice one two weeks ago, with only two tiny spots of wear on the upper PF and the wrong flips on the lower PF. Overall damn good condition, cab is in excellent shape. Dirty and needing attention though.

Got to work and here’s the after...shopped with orange Titan rubbers, LEDs, waxed upper and lower PF’s; added Bally coin door insert, translucent blue flips on main PF, a chromed shooter rod and shooter plate, polished the hell out of the coin door, switched the legs to refurbed chrome ones I had.

Cab is definitely nice on this one...no fade. Just have a couple bulb sockets to tweek that should be perfect.

Looks great and tastefully done

I love my Elektra. It seems to be especially popular with non pinheads.

Thanks....definitely a cool game. Not as easy to hit the rule set as some people think.

Something is wrong with those flips because the ball can't go up the ramp freely... it should be under the plastic.....

The design was changed to make the "special" not so easily obtainable from the bottom flippers.

Has anyone replaced the lining under the playfield for the lower playfield window? I was thinking this would work but wanted to see if someone else has already done this.

That should work fine.

I removed mine as the original was shrinking. Behind the black strip the blue edge wraps around. To me that looked just as good or better than the black foam.

Just picked up a decent Elektra in desperate need of a full plastic set. Figured I’d check here first to see if anyone out there has a CPR set squirreled away they’re no longer in need of before I hit the web and overpay.

Was that the one on FB for $750 in Annville? If so, congrats! It looked like a nice cabinet and playfield from the pictures. Just that it had some bad plastics. Couldn't tell how decent the playfield or backglass was from the pictures. The guy told me he had 13 offers on it & said he needed $850.. which I was fine with, but then after not hearing from him I figured he was really saying "make me a higher offer than $850 and it *might* be yours". I don't really play that game and definitely didn't need the machine that bad. Around or under $1k and it was a solid price for someone for sure that's been looking for this title.

Yes...I don’t believe he was playing games. He said I got to him first and I told him I was fine with the $850. He even got an offer for more between last night and this evening but stuck with the agreed $850. I’ve been trying to grab one for a while when they show up outside of pinside so I’m pretty stoked.

Awesome!

Looks like a cool game. I've never played one in-person. From the Youtube video, I'm not a fan of the background sound.. much prefer Xenon's background music. But, gameplay-wise it looks pretty cool! People have to stop listing reasonable deals, it's pretty bad when I'm interested in buying a machine & that's happened twice now this month.

#695 5 years ago

I'm having an issue with the lower right saucer not firing.
Things I've checked or done:
-Voltage at the coil is fine
-Coil fires when I temporarily ground the non banded diode side
-new connectors for J4 and J5 on the driver board and J4 on the mpu (alltek mpu)
-tested all wires between J4 of mpu and driver board
-swapped out the driver board for an alltek one from a different game. I even swapped the mpu for another alltek mpu.

So far no luck in getting it to fire in game or in coil test.
Anything else I could check?

Yes I did. Colors really pop. Also to protect it. Over kill

#697 5 years ago

Hi guys!

I found this club and I thought I would join.

Bought my "Elektra" back in 1990. It was my second pin efter Bally´s "Star Trek".
I´m from Sweden, and those days, classic machines weren´t that expensive. If I´m not mistaken, I gave 2800 SEK (equals about $460).
It worked fine for several years until I started to get reset problems, and finally i put in a storage.
Some months ago I "ressurected" her with a new MPU-board and rectifier board.

Anyway... I do have problems still.

1. Sounds. I don´t get sound on start up or gameplay, only on test. How is that possible?

2. Mini playfield. It doesn´t work properly. Sometimes the flippers work, but no lights. I have already tried with another relay, and replacing the lamp bulb (that´s needed for the relay).
Any suggestions?

It will be for sale also. New playfield plastic, new plastic set, all 3 playfields cleared with auto clear. Titan clear rubbers, all leds, blue flipper bats. Cabinet is nice. What is the going rate for one of those?

Quoted from pfcjimmy:

I'm having an issue with the lower right saucer not firing.
Things I've checked or done:
-Voltage at the coil is fine
-Coil fires when I temporarily ground the non banded diode side
-new connectors for J4 and J5 on the driver board and J4 on the mpu (alltek mpu)
-tested all wires between J4 of mpu and driver board
-swapped out the driver board for an alltek one from a different game. I even swapped the mpu for another alltek mpu.
So far no luck in getting it to fire in game or in coil test.
Anything else I could check?

Did you check the switch leaves and contacts?

Yes. The switch is fine and registers but coil doesn't kick the ball out. It will lock a ball and kick the second one out and if you lock the 2nd ball it doesn't kick out for multiball. The coil doesn't fire during the coil tests either. Seems like it is something with the MPU signal to the coil isn't working but the wires from J4 to J4 (mpu to driver board) are fine with new connectors. I'll triple check the wiring tonight to ensure the right pins have the right wires.
The wires on J3 of the driver board are a bit of a mess but none of those are in the wiring for Q9 which is the one that is failing.
