Thanks!
Not sure what you mean, I sprayed first coat before water slide decals for every insert. (except star inserts)
I have done all createx paints before first coat of 2PAC

Before apply decals, all inserts must be perfectly flat like glass by fill up the cupped and groove from around the edge of an insert with 2PAC.....a day later, wet sand to flat....
IMG_3969 (resized).JPG
IMG_3971 (resized).JPG
Wet sanded and clean up....
IMG_3977 (resized).JPG
IMG_3980 (resized).JPG
Old inserts scanned into PC
scan0008b (resized).jpg
Fixed up with a photoshop software......
scan0008a (resized).jpg
Copy and paste, copy and paste, copy and paste....
scan0008aaa (resized).jpg
Printed on a normal paper and cut out few inserts to check if the sizes are correct....
IMG_3986 (resized).JPG
Sizes looks good to me.......
IMG_3987 (resized).JPG
IMG_3988 (resized).JPG
Then, print a sheet of waterslide decal with a laser printer.....better quality than inkjet.
IMG_3990 (resized).JPG
Brush over an insert with this before apply a waterslide decal...
IMG_3991 (resized).JPG
Decal works done! ....Going for a second coat of 2PAC on the next day!

Pretty sure it gonna be ok

This is second coat......
IMG_4004 (resized).JPG
IMG_4008 (resized).JPG

Probably 3-4 more coats then I'm done....I wanted my playfield to be a perfectly flat like glass sheet!
No, I don't want a high gloss finish.....on final coat, I'll wet sand with 2000 grit and then hand rubbing out to between semi gloss to gloss finish.

#56 1 year ago

I'm new to all of this, but I can tell this is an amazing amount of dedication, patience and persistence. Looks amazing so far, will continue following to see how the restoration finishes. Kudos!

#57 1 year ago

Yup, those lines around the inserts are what I was talking about.

#58 1 year ago

Really liking the way this is turning out and its nice to see a restore where the playfield gets some love rather then throwing in a NOS or 'better one'.

The process you use of brushing edges and then spraying the fill seem to work really well, I am going to have to give that a try.

After 2nd coat, wet sand on insert areas VERY VERY CAREFULLY!! NOT TOO MUCH!!!
Water slide decals are raised on surface......
IMG_4010 (resized).JPG
IMG_4013 (resized).JPG
(On third coat, sand little more on inserts, more on fourth coat and much more on fifth to leveling with the rest of playfield)

After sanding the inserts, then wet sand the rest of playfield with careless.....
IMG_4014 (resized).JPG

I found a couple of defects.... but fixed up with touch up createx paints
Touch-up paints in between clearcoats should be fine....no problem. (with my products... Shopline 2PAC)

Lots of unmarked spots....that's OK, more clearcoats and wet sands, the spots will disappear.
Too risky to sand more, might hit the createx paints or decals....so, another clearcoat = more peace of mind.....

Third coat.......
IMG_4017 (resized).JPG

Wood siderails for playfield.....sanded and a couple of coats with Minwax satin spray can....

Wet sanding on forth coat.......
IMG_4027 (resized).JPG
Ouch! my finger hurts....#@%$&
IMG_4028 (resized).JPG
After fourth wet sanded, unmarked spots almost gone....mostly still under posts......fifth coat will be finalized.
IMG_4029 (resized).JPG
IMG_4030 (resized).JPG
After fifth and last coat, I wet sanded on few spots with 600 grit....then 800 grit all over the playfield.....
After 800 grit job......2000 grit is next.....
I took this picture when I did first half with 2000 grit....
IMG_4035 (resized).JPG
Turned the playfield around for another photo......
IMG_4036 (resized).JPG
2000 grit is done.....
IMG_4041 (resized).JPG
IMG_4040 (resized).JPG
Polishing the playfield with this......
IMG_4044 (resized).JPG
Finished!!!!
Yipppeeee!!!!
Beautiful colors.....I liked the lime green......

Wire ball guild rails and wooden side rails installed.....
IMG_4050 (resized).JPG
IMG_4053 (resized).JPG
Before I install 2 wire ball guild rails below the flippers.....I filed the inner corners from round to square to prevent the clearcoat from chipped when installed.
IMG_4047 (resized).JPG
IMG_4048 (resized).JPG
IMG_4054 (resized).JPG
I'm very happy with my clearcoat.....more pics....

Metal posts installed......

Electromechanical games are the classiest era of games in existence. Brimming with character and artistic prowess. You've done this game perfect justice with your restoration. Stunning!

#81 1 year ago

I'm really, really impressed with all the work you put into this game... those that have done playfield restoration work, at any level, know how difficult it is to get it right, and how much extra time, patience, experience, and $$ are required to have results of this fine quality. It's absolutely beautiful in all regards. Great job on posting all of the painful details along the way - you rock bro!
