    Quoted from Pin_Guy:

Ohms law says the current pulled by the transformer is unchanging...even if you disconnect all the wires from the secondaries.

The current draw of the devices in the game does change. In attract mode, only the display and lighting draw current. During gameplay, things like coils and magnets take a lot more power. The flipper coils typically draw more power than any other device or lights in the game. Magnets, which are essentially coils, also draw a lot of power.

Most all 90's games and many 2000's games are rated at 8 amps. Spike games are rated 4 amps. Says so right on the sticker on the back of cab. A loaded WPC game with regular incandescent lighting can draw 6 or more amps during gameplay. Spike games significantly less, but all games will draw more power during gameplay.

You can easily see this using a Kill a Watt. Cheap device that tells you everything you need to know about a device in real time. You can even do timed stuff. See how much power each game uses in 24 hours. Watts, volts, amps, you can see them all with the push of a button. No EE degree needed.
