Ok the title is a little bit of a joke...people hate the LE cabinet so I thought what can I do to make the LE a better restore. EBDLE is the same game so there is only the cabinet that makes it different,

You get an EBD at a discount by buying the LE. I saw a restore on the internet that I liked so I thought I would copy their idea a bit and make my Limited Edition unique.

Thankfully this time i had time to fix all the issues on the machine before i cosmetically restore it. I already have been working on this for weeks to get parts and get it ready for the restore so posting today (Dec 2020) will catch people up to where I am now. I have a hardtop to install on the game but for now most of the cabinet is done.

Attached are some pictures...enjoy.

Time to paint...I added a system 11 power cord cup in the back because LE’s rarely come apart I thought a cord going in the cabinet would be preferred.

I had to already fit the varistor and the power cord might as will do it right.

All black....in and out...

New braid ground wire installed, still have to do restore the coin door. I have a new coin door skin but I think that will come later.

It’s pretty dirty and dented but it all worked when I pulled it out...

The lockdown bar receiver will get a cleaning and a decal (Titan).

I want to get the playfield hardtop installed first.

Want to get it out of my parking space before it gets too cold in the PNW

Backbox light panel, sanded and cleaned up and painted.

I removed the decal and typed up my own copy of the original...anyone wants a copy PM me and I will send you one. My goal was to make the layout the same so it fits like the original....I laminated and stapled it unlike the original decal.DCF81113-8B17-4F6B-8305-3A177342F331 (resized).jpegDCF81113-8B17-4F6B-8305-3A177342F331 (resized).jpeg

Ok ... here is where it takes shape...custom decals were made for the cabinet.

Much harder to install these decals since the LE has more overlapping surfaces but I think it turned out great.

New legs, new angled leg bolt receivers, new back cabinet plastic skids, of course cabinet leg stand off metal pieces were installed. I don’t want to ruin those new decals.

So that is pretty much up to date....

I have a bad apron I need to redo....looking to maybe do it differently but I have to do something.

Here is my trashed apron...

Those custom cabinet decals look great! I look forward to following this along. Awesome work so far.

Wow - I love what you did with your cabinet. That artwork looks fantastic....I never cared much for the LE cabinet but with that custom artwork on it, I think it looks awesome.

I recently redid my 1984 EBD Midway "Classic" and like you, I painted the inside black after running all new ground braids and refreshing the coin door. I did some blue accents in the cabinet interior as well just to customize it for me (this is one of those pins I'll never let go). I'll be following your thread to enjoy your progress. If you'd like to see my restore, here's a link.....I also put in a hardtop so be sure to stay "clear" of my mistakes (pun intended). I wound up having to re-do my hardtop after the adhesion on the first install failed. Taking off a hardtop is....well....I never want to do it again.

I love the cabinet artwork! I’ll be watching this one. Great job so far.

#17 3 years ago

Love EBD, but never could stand the LE version, but this cabinet looks great!

#18 3 years ago

If anyone needs the art - I can put you in touch with the guy who created the decals for me.

He does custom work but since I already paid for the custom work my guess is the decals would just be the regular price (cheaper for you since I did the customization).

Looks great, but I gotta ask, why didn't you have him put the 8 ball in a location where it would be either on the small panel or the lower cab, rather than being cut in two by the seam? Looks like there was plenty of room to move it up several inches and it would be on the separate small panel and not cut off. Just my OCD kicking in lol.

#20 3 years ago

Thanks for sharing your work and looking forward to following your progress. Really impressed with the custom cabinet artwork.

Honestly, it is a copy of the 1984 version of the EBD classic cabinet - so rather than change it all, it is stretched to look like the 1984 with color chnages.

It can be done I guess it was based upon another restore I saw elsewhere and it was a choice.

The guy I worked with can alter it I guess but I wanted to carry up the side middle piece of the LE cabinet.

Well sorry for the delay, picked up a High Speed that needed a quick shop job that I sold after shopping it. That turned out nice...but time to get back to a game I will keep for a while.

Polished rails, lockdown, sanded and clear coated the playfield and installed the hardtop.

The cabinet harness and a few more little things were installed.

Lots of parts to put back on the playfield, LED’s, new flipper assemblies, new, drop targets, new plastics...

Maybe a week or so of a few hours here and there...

Remodeling my bathroom at the same time...so sometimes I get pulled one way or the other...

It was a new stainless steel skin for the coin door - the door was totally mangled so it took sometime to assemble the door.

It’s just fingerprints on the door I have to clean up...

I will be installing LED’s on the flipper buttons too....

#25 3 years ago

Not that anyone cares...but I painted the rusted coin box with truck bed liner paint...

Looks good...

I will take a picture of that later...

Looking great! FWIW, my '84 playfield has the same "no cutout" for the lamp in the upper right corner, but the hardtop was templated from an '81 playfield with the cutout. To make it less noticeable, I painted that area white before putting down the hardtop. You can still see the cutout if you stare at it but at a glance, under the plastics, it doesn't stand out as it would with bare wood showing through.

I am going to move the socket and cut a hole for it. I did not notice that until last night...

Got it all put together but of course there are a few tweaks needed. I put new flipper mechs in it and of course the left side is not working but I just need time to figure it out...

It looks amazing....

Eight ball coin inserts and Tilt Graphics magnetic apron which looks so cool...

Nice job! I cherish my standard EBD but those LE cabinets don't bother me none. They are very different looking than standard plus your score is easier to glance at, being closer to the playfield. Love the apron cover, didn't know about those. Would look good on mine especially since it has the wrong color apron from another game anyway.

The apron magnet is great...highly recommend it...it is a nice removable mod.
