Don't be mad at me, but I just bought a killer Eight Ball Deluxe 1980 that I found in an Antique Mall by my house for $250! It lights up, but does not play. The field is original, mild wear, needs paint touch ups, and MPU work, but hey! Its an EBD!! Backglass a 10. Cabinet paint a 7..wear a 6_20151003_192952.JPG_20151003_192952.JPG..really great shape overall. Keep your eyes open! They're sitting around in Goodwills and other weird places. That'll gimme something to do for a couple months. I'll be back on here for help i'm sure when I get into fixing it. I'm new at it. I'm currently restoring a Phantom of the Opera that now looks great...now I'm mixed in the debate to remove the mylar and clear coat or not! scary! I'm jumping in as a member! Haven't played mine yet. Needs a total restoration. Anyone recommend someone to do this for me? Please forward me all good candidates for this. Also, can anyone give me a guess on what this might cost to have it restored by another person? I don't have the time to do this one. I did my Phantom of the Opera myself.

Quoted from Lovef2k:

The PF looks decent for an EBD. How many flashes are you getting on the mpu when turning on power?

The power transformer is so hacked and chopped that I can't power it on. I did once and it had a current running through it and shocked me when I touched the flipper buttons.

My EBD playfield had similar damage in the same spots. It's a lot of work to bring it back, but it can be done. Good luck!

That looks great! Can't wait to get there! I'm dying to see it shine and flash at me!

Pictures? Everything is fixable with a little work. There's only one way to wire it up right and obviously yours is ungrounded.

I am currently working on my POTO power problem. When I'm done with that, I'll be able to show you all what is going on with my EBD. Thanks for your help!

Hello fellers. I've been busy for several years and am back to restoring my 1981 #EBD. I have replaced all the boards with Allteks and put in a Rottendog rectifier. Don't want to nickel and dime myself for years to come. Just want it running damn good for good. Right now my issue is the Squawk & Talk. 1. Do they even make a replacement for it? I have no speech/sounds, LED stays on / no flashes. I'm sure everything's bad on it. Is there a new board out there? or will I have to go through every single checklist on this board, fixing and buying, repairing, soldering to high hell? I will be also putting in a HARDTOP with new plastics as the playfield is normal for a 40 yr old unloved piece of furniture. Please let me know! 2. Also, what is the best way to change out the under playfield bulbs with LEDs? If I try to unscrew each screw to each bulb holder to access it, it pulls away and hard on the ground wire that connects them all...(each is soldered onto the screw). How do you get in there?! Thanks for your help!

I would start with the complete sound board cap kit from Big Daddy. Get the kit with the 2 pots included. It’s $15. I’m not aware of any replacement boards for this. As far as the bulbs, you should be able to remove all of the bulbs from the top of the playfield. They are 555 wedge bulbs. Just pull them straight out, do not twist.

Thanks for your help! Also thanks to everyone who PM'd me about this! I'll start working on it.

Reproduction sound boards can be found here. Email Jim and ask him for availability.

Sweet thanks. I'll look into it.

I have something here maybe someone can identify. There's a brown wire cut off coming out from under the Solenoid Expander Assembly under PF. Don't know if its someone's hack or its something needed that's broken. It is soldered to a ground screw with a bunch of others under it. What is this? Someone has written "Lamp Test Socket" on the board. I guess that's what it is?

thanks!

Need Help! EBD '81 - half of my playfield lights won't light up. I installed all new Alltek Boards. Replaced all lights with LEDs. Replaced all pin connectors on the Lamp Driver Board. Still nothing. New fuses, etc. When I run a wire from the board to a light directly it will come on. I am wondering if the Lamp Test Socket near the SEB could be the problem?? The light does not come on. It was screwed up by someone and I ran a new wire (brown one) across them where the bare wire was cut. Is this right? Would this cause my other lights to be off? I see no problems anywhere under the PF anywhere. No loose wires, nothing. Been working on this for ages.

Are the non working lamps.in a group or random?

They are in groups - the DELUXE lights, lights leading to 8 ball, and others. In clusters

Quoted from Lovef2k:

I just took another look at the pics. If that is a jumper then it could be a repair attempt on the socket. Pull the bulb and ohm out the socket inner tabs to each outer tabs.

Yes it looks like a jumper. I'm not sure if it was a hack or a factory part. By your comment it appears to be a hack and not standard! Thanks. I'll see what happens.
