I picked up an EBD last weekend and wanted to get some other’s opinions on what I should do. I can’t decide.

I knew the cabinet paint had bad touch ups and someone a long time ago painted the front of the head black(which is now falling off) The playfield looked really good from a distance. As you look close at the playfield the areas outside of where the Mylar is crackled. It’s not falling off, but If I was doing a full restore I would replace it. If it’s going to be just a clean up the pin as much as possible and enjoy it as a player then I would leave it.

So my first initial thought was to do a full cabinet sand and repaint. This would be my first attempt at this. I kind of want to do it for the learning experience. But I also hesitate and think maybe I shouldn’t do a full cabinet repaint if I am not going to replace or hardtop the playfield. The playfield is nice enough to keep for an unrestored pin.

Would you do a full cabinet paint and stencil? Leave it as is? Or just sand and paint the front of the head?(I don’t think I could stand looking at the peeling black paint on the head)

Has anyone used a “metallic” color of gold or brass when repainting a cabinet of an 81 EBD? I’m looking at different paints and they seem like it would look good on this machine. I was wondering if someone has any pictures of a cabinet paints with one of these. I guess I could get some paint and test it out on some plywood.
