Looks like I'm joining the club this week, picking up a nice original. This'll be my first of this era Bally, does the head come off pretty easily?

#1159 7 years ago
Quoted from vec-tor:

The head can come off.
1) remove ground strap: Philips screwdriver
2) remove wiring from the connectors: follow the center harnesses.
3) remove one of the backbox's female hinges while the backbox is down
--- over the bottom cabinet.
4) carefully slide the backbox off the other side hinge.
5) tada!

Cool, good to know. First time moving a pin with this particular vehicle and it might be a bit tight so I wanted to know what my options were. I have another Bally a few years older but the head doesn't fold.

Fit just fine. Did any of these have factory Mylar?

Quoted from Bryan_Kelly:

Has anyone, (or is it even possible) installed the light boards from an 84 version playfield in an 81 version?
I've got an 81 version game I've started to restore and I recently picked up a mostly populated 84 playfield with the light boards. I was originally going to use the 84 playfield harness in my 81 game but it appears the connectors on the end in the head are not the same as the 81.

My '81 appears to have an '84 playfield with the light boards. I can take pictures of anything you might need to see. I'm about to get pretty familiar with it.

I'm getting closer to starting on my playfield swap and beginning to realize how important to me it's going to be to do the best I can on it. I don't suppose anyone has a parts list of the various posts, screws, t-nuts and so forth if I was planning to replace most of the top-side hardware and essentially move as little as possible aside from the major mechanisms, harness and sockets from the underside? Or is that a bad idea? I'd kind of like to get as nice as I can in case I ever get up the nerve to freshening up my cabinet as well. This game will never leave my collection, that's for sure! Mostly fishing for ideas and advice guys, this is my first swap and I'm more than a little intimidated.

Quoted from jj44114:

Picked up an EBD '81 version that has all red ringed posts instead of blue. Doesn't look like they were added in recent years. Anyone ever see this game with red posts?

I have but it was one of the first 400 and also had the solid white pop bumpers. Of course those probably would have been replaced with translucent orange by now. I don't suppose yours has a plastic playfield? There weren't many of those but I think they came with red also.

Pretty cool! My understanding is that they started with S/N 1000 so that would make yours a pretty early one. My ‘81 is like 11xxx I think.

Quoted from Bohdi:

Anyone have one of these custom aprons installed on there EBD? I like it, but I'd really like to see one on the pin itself. If anyone has one on theirs, please post a pic..

I have one but was waiting until I did my playfield swap to install it. I'll see about throwing it on for a quick pic this weekend.

I'm slowly gathering all the parts for my playfield swap. I've currently got a mix of the blue posts, some star and others the concentric ones that I believe were original. Does anyone happen to know how many are in the game and whether they are 1" or 1 1/16" or 1 1/8"? I still need to get a full set of plastics and have my new drop targets clear coated but hoping to get on this thing before long.
