Question:is upper flipper necessary or am I talking out my azz?

To answer your question: Yes and Yes

I replaced all of my lights with Pinball Life's Ablaze Premium Ghost Buster 1-SMD-LEDs with frosted dome (warm white). Are they too bright for an 8 Ball Deluxe? Or, am I just too old?

lol

Seriously though, I haven't found any LEDs yet that I like as much as the good old fashioned incandescents for playfield GI in classic pins like EBD. Underneath pop caps and back box illumination not so bad.

I did pretty much the same thing. Mine are Comets 1SMD frosted warm white. I think it looks great. I did color match most of the inserts. I also did leave incandescents behind the top portion of the backglass just to tone down the words Eight Ball Deluxe.

#1755 2 years ago

You must, must, must stay with incandescent on playfield GI. But color matched and warm white SMD's under the playfield look incredible!

I like Cointaker warm white frosted. They also help with the warping of the plastics since they give off much less heat than the 555's

What are Eight Ball Deluxe's going for these days? I am going to look at one that is from the original run (not an LE) with a backglass that swings out. Backglass and playfield are nice, new displays and new drop targets, works 100%. Cabinet is good to fair, black powdercoating on rails and coin door.

Sounds like a 1984 run and not the 1981. Make sure the cabinet isn't water damaged or otherwise in rough shape.

A nice example for this version should be $1800 to $2800. This one sounds like a $2500 EBD to me, give or take.

If you pick it up, post some pics. Curious what an EBD looks like with Black side rails and coin door. Definitely would look better on a '84 version vs the '81 Original.

Keep in mind that the '84 run have cabinebts that are made of particle board, not plywood.

And it's not stenciled. Don't think you can find decals for the '84 either. I've never seen them available anyways

I wish someone would make stencils for the EBD LE

Jeff has had these for a long time, more than 10 years.

His quality and attention to detail has always been questionable. He keeps being backed with the licensing needed to produce his products.
They might be better than making your own and probably will need to be modified. Some people aren't picky and would be happy to have anything. The poster said he wished someone would make these. He didn't say anything about a quality item!

#1768 2 years ago

If you're looking for quality stencils contact Pinball Pimp. He has the standard stencils for EBD, maybe he would make the LE.

He is asking 3k for it, not sure if I will buy it. I'm going to look at it tomorrow so we will see. Thank you all for the information!

Can someone please take a picture of the switch wiring under the rollover button on the top left of playfield? I have a switch matrix issue and need to make sure I have the wiring correct and diode attached properly.

Thanks!

This playfield is a cpr or an original ? The details and colors from the guns look wrong.
There's some kind of strange shadow around 50,000 and special on the pool table.
Here's mine i restored a year ago. I also modified a little this playfield and use skin color for the back of the girl, the original design look weird

It's hard to tell from a picture like this. It has the appearance of being a repop but it could be the flash or photo-shopping. If you show the entire playfield though with the area at the bottom it becomes easy to tell.

Does anyone know where to get the inlane ball return plastics? I know cliffy makes metal ones but I was hoping to keep it close to the original with clear plastics. The ones I have are from Bay Area amusements but clearly they were not strong enough. Look what a wild airball did to mine.

Still searching for this plastic. Does anyone have some spare ones to sell?

Sure. I have a few spare sets. I had them lasercut from PETG, based on my original yellowed plastics, and they are a perfect fit. I can email you the file and you can have them lasercut yourself. Or I can send you a set.

#1785 2 years ago

Can someone take a picture of there board settings I can't get my game to give an extra ball. Here are my setting. If you see something wrong please point it out.

Yes I would love a set. Sent you a PM.

Thanks.

Quoted from Nate:

Hi Bryan,
I had the same problem with my EBD. I used two strips of 1/2" self-adhesive wood veneer which I placed under the drop targets ends for the length of the sheet metal Bally assembly (started with one, then went to two). That solved the problem for the next 30-40 years.
All I had to do was to raise the drop targets ~1/16th of and inch and the balls would never settle there again.
-Nate

Do you have a picture of that solution? I might have to do something similar because it really bothers me to get the ball stuck there every time.

I am now a member of the club. The legs, lockdown bar, coin door, and rails were powder coated black. Just need to add the player 4 display.

I'm jumping in as a member! Haven't played mine yet. Needs a total restoration. Anyone recommend someone to do this for me? Please forward me all good candidates for this. Also, can anyone give me a guess on what this might cost to have it restored by another person? I don't have the time to do this one. I did my Phantom of the Opera myself.

The PF looks decent for an EBD. How many flashes are you getting on the mpu when turning on power?

#1792 2 years ago

My EBD playfield had similar damage in the same spots. It's a lot of work to bring it back, but it can be done. Good luck!

The power transformer is so hacked and chopped that I can't power it on. I did once and it had a current running through it and shocked me when I touched the flipper buttons.

That's a bummer. You probably need to find another transformer since the wiring on these cannot be replaced. A Xenon or Flash Gordon will work. Actually most Bally games that have the transformer in the cab will work. Some may have a few add ons like GI flashers or florescent lamp transformers. I will look for one at Pinfest next month.

Or, if you have the manual, you can trace the wires and get it back to where you can atleast power it up. Right now it seems that the 115V is touching ground since the side rails are part of the ground causing you to get zapped. I wouldn't be too optimistic though, since house current probably hit the ground sides of the boards as well.

Pictures? Everything is fixable with a little work. There's only one way to wire it up right and obviously yours is ungrounded.

Could someone please tell me what diodes to use for the tilt mechanisms in the cabinet? They're so old I can't identify them.
