Quoted from tominator:My question is, what damage (if any) will I do by having a 3 amp fuse instead of a 1 amp fuse for the playfield coil power?
Answer: You will fry a coil and then some. Max fuse is 1 1/4 Amp Slow-Blow ( Stern's Fight 2000 ).
All Bally pinballs are 1 Amp Slow-Blow.
It is better to have one coil go bad than to take out a whole circuit.
e.g. I have a Williams Firepower that I got cheap. Why? because the person prior puts a
20 Amp fuse for the solenoids protection; when in fact a 2 1/2 Amp slow blow is the max
ratings.
Conclusion? All the coils in the game are fried along with the driver board.
Note: I had a boss who would use hardware nails as fuses when something blows up,
------ "theirs the problem!".
------ It caused more problems in repairs than what it is worth, holes burned through the PCB,
------ burned off traces,melted components etc,etc,etc.
