eight ball deluxe showing no display or sound during gameplay.

has new mpu , power rectifier board and lamp driver board.
mpu boots with correct number of flashes.
score displays quickly flash then go off after boot.
flippers are working.
squawk and talk board plays sound when sw1 test switch is pressed but no sound during game play.
slingshot coils and bummers are weak.
test button on door does run coil test but only the 7 drop targets on the right then it flashes a light
next to the solenoid expender 3 times.
some lights don't come on.

Solenoid driver board might need some work.

#4 4 years ago

Disconnected connectors J2 and J3 from the MPU board, J4 connector from the lamp driver board and J1 connector from the Auxilliary lamp driver board.
read that might show a change in the displays but no luck.
tried with having only one display in at a time but no luck.
Solenoid driver shows TP5 at 15 volts and TP1 at 5 .2 volts.
tp3 at 5.2 volts.

aux lamp driver board shows only 1 volt at tp1
there seems to been no visible difference in the lights when the aux lamp driver board is unplugged or plugged in.
where does the aux lamp driver get power from?

cleaned the connectors on the on the aux lamp driver board and it works now,
all the lamp it controls come on now.
but whats causing the low solenoid power and no displays?

#6 4 years ago

great news!

after rebuilding some the connections and cleaning them on the board in the backbox
the solenoids now work and the sound works.

so now the only thing left is the display not coming on.
but besides that , it plays just fine.

Check voltage at TP 2 and 4 on the SDB.

#8 4 years ago

TP 2 measures 160 volts

TP 4 measures 250 volts

the voltages on the display boards were

TP 2 = 160 volts

TP 1 = 5 volts

Is your Alltek MPU board configured correctly for the machine it's installed in? In other words, is it set to be an 8 ball deluxe?

#11 4 years ago

yes , it set to be a eight ball deluxe.

the game plays fine , its just the displays that don't come on

the displays flicker on when it boots but displays nothing during game or tests.
it does this in the picture.

and this the J3 connector on the solenoid driver board.
should it have 2 row of holes like that?

looks bad enough to need to rebuild the connector but i don't know what tools i need for that.

You *definitely* want to replace that connector! It looks like they didn't have the correct parts on hand and rigged it up. I think that connector is 0.100 pins and housing, parts available at great plains electronics.
