Quoted from mrm_4:

I soldered a resistor on each of the controlled light sockets to combat that.
However thats back when i was over motivated and had a lust for soldering, now that thought makes me sick hahaha

Yeah we definitely won’t be doing that. Haha!

Wiring harness is laid out and starting to solder what seems like a million things.

The bulb was added to the big hole in the back to add light.

All switches are installed and slowly going through adding new clear tubing to replace the old yellowed tubing.

Spent about 6 hours getting about 1/2 through the soldering. Wow, looking at these pics it’s looks like I didn’t do much.

I’m working around perimeter and now getting to what seems like an infinite amount of inserts in the middle.

Wow, that’s a lot of soldering.

#105 3 years ago

Believe everything is soldered! I missed the one single drop switch clear tubing so will get that tomorrow when testing lights and adjusting switches.

Put a dent in the roll of solder!

I can't believe I missed this thread! As always, excellent work dmacy. I'm the lucky owner of a Bad Cats that dmacy completely redid (cabinet, new playfield, etc), an Avatar that got the entire top side gutted and half the bottom rebuilt. Oh, and a Demolition man he did as well.

You do excellent work!

Thanks! I feel worthless with the Big Butt Hunter. I think I put in LED’s.

Inserts all working too! Some pics of random inserts in testing. Pink LED’s in DELUXE targets. They look great in person. Photos don’t really show them off well.

Finally getting back to it after vacation. Plastics are all in. We ended up using the original plastics for the two back larger plastics as the clear parts were really bad. They had bad streaks and looked way worse than the originals. Pretty disappointing and seeing this more and more. I hope they make things right.

Used dabs of hot glue to hold the metal spacers. This title is a pain lining them all up. I did adjust the flippers finally.

What’s left? Pulling it off the rotisserie and getting the front areas ready to is all the apron.

Thanks TaylorVA for the new rails. They look fantastic! We had a rocky road with them disappearing for most of the week but came safe and sound. That was the last little detail we were waiting for. This is about wrapped up!

dmacy is there a specific reason you switched out the wedge lamp sockets for the bayonets? Would you do it again? Or would you recommend I just stick with the existing wedge style? The reason I ask is I'm putting together my shopping list and the lamp sockets are a little spendy compared to other items. I'm not afraid of all the soldering and time spent, just wanted your opinion on if you thought it was necessary.

Thanks!

phillyfan64 would be best to answer this question. He knew what he wanted so I’m pretty sure we did it at his request. If not, I don’t recall why I had!

I will say that the new bayonet I’m putting in this Harlem Globetrotters On Tour currently has me considering a wedge style. They seem to be weak on the bottom where they touch the “ball” of the lamp. I can see that being an issue with the arm losing strength.

#123 2 years ago

You can’t get the original type wedge sockets. So many folks put bayonets in if they are going with new. Nothing wrong with keeping the old wedge ones if they are in good condition.

#124 2 years ago

I think if you’re doing a complete swap, it’s worth changing the sockets. There were a few broken wedge sockets. They still worked, but part of the plastic was broken off. Also, those old Bally wedge sockets are brutal if you’re trying to install LEDs. In many cases the LEDs are way too tight. LEDs install much easier in the bayonet style. It was a lot of extra work but in my opinion it was worth it. The new sockets will be much more reliable in the long run. Thanks Dave.

#125 2 years ago

Thanks for the replies. All of my current wedges work, but as you pointed out phillyfan64 I noticed that LEDs are super tight. I just replaced a single light with an LED in this machine and had to trim some of the plastic.

I'll think about getting the new sockets. I'm not here to make money, what's a few extra bucks...

Thanks!

#126 2 years ago

you really cleaned all the mech's underneath!
That look's terrific...congrats!

Be aware of the different sizes if you’re replacing the sockets. Only certain sockets will be the correct height. EBD has two levels of plastics. If you install the wrong sockets the bulbs will hit the lower level plastic. We learned this the hard way. There’s more details in this thread about this issue and also in the EBD club thread. Feel free to PM me if you need more info.
