Documenting an IPB playfield swap on a 1984 Eight Ball Deluxe

It will get new rails from @ibis, rebuilt pops, and LED’s. Anything we find will get rebuilt or replaced. Plastics will mostly be reused as they’re newer.

Quoted from slochar:

The old PF looks pretty decent until I zoomed in and saw what looks to be touchup (maybe by MK in 2005??) and planking.
The IPB was the best repro IMO, that's what I have in mine after I had CaptainNeo touchup and clear it. It was a second I got from Gene at Allentown, looked perfect until you shined a light through the back several balls' blacklines were not as black as they should have been.

How did you attach the rails on the IPB? I'm planning to drill holes since I don't want to staple like the originals.

Good call on the M&M. Didn't use that on the others I did for people. Can't comment on the cabinet stuff because it's not my machine.

#8 11 months ago

Perfect and thanks. Yes, same story with oak.

#10 11 months ago

Progress from tonight. Top side mostly stripped.

Bottom is being torn down.

Rails are removed and in route to ibis

Supervisor Karolina performing inspections.

Many holes aren’t drilled. So going old school with contact paper again. It’s no big deal but just takes more time to get things right and lined up perfectly.

Marking, drilling, kruzman kit, install and repeat!

It’s coming along slowly, but got on a good rhythm today.

The bottom 1/4 is done. So far things are lining up. The supervisor is 15 today and despite cancer, she’s supervising and checking the progress just fine. We love her and so happy she’s been able to do all the quality control for me.

Pop bumpers rebuilt with new parts and coils.

Ball trough kicker rebuilt and installed after adding missing hold down holes.

ibis nailed out another sexy set of rails and including the back/rear one. These took a bit of work to get lined up because, again, there’s no holes! But this allowed lining everything up perfectly.

Placed a few plastics so I can get a better idea of lamp holders.

Back at it. 3/4 of the playfield top side is done. Just the left side to go.

Used new lane guides as these old ones are in good shape but done match the posts as well.

Top is finally wrapped up.

IMG_6344 (resized).jpegIMG_6344 (resized).jpeg

#22 10 months ago

On the back end now. New lamp holders getting installed with Comet LED’s.

IMG_6360 (resized).jpegIMG_6360 (resized).jpeg
#23 10 months ago

The rest of the bulb holders came in so they got added. Added the 4 bank drop target and added the extra right rear GI bulb. If not wanted the bulb can be removed. All the GI and braid work is done.

Starting to look more complete…

For anyone that converts the lamp holders to bayonet at the clear plastics, these are the ones that fit.

Rebuilt the big drop assembly.

Installed new pop bumper spoons.

Harness is laid in after getting the big drop assembly installed. Was reminded that it needs an incandescent bulb for the expander so put that in.

Pop bumpers are installed using new blue skirts instead of white. They look great! I have new ones from Marco that are great but didn’t need to use them.

These are all new parts so hopefully not.

I'll post in the EBD thread, but figured if anyone here may know: where can I get the correct pin to replace the carriage bolt?

The soldering has begun! And seems like it’s taking forever lol!

Quoted from phillyfan64:

Oh yes, those lamp sockets! Like the blue skirts. Looks great.

You’d think I would have wrote that down by now!

#34 10 months ago

New clear tubing. Which if you need any, Bryan_Kelly is who to reach. Really finishes off any playfield swap.

Bottom side is 99% done. I have to tidy up and finish pop bumper lighting.

IMG_6534 (resized).jpegIMG_6534 (resized).jpeg
#36 10 months ago

We have GI lights! Well some of them. Still need to do some insert testing and wrap up the GI testing.

Got the GI sorted out.

Inserts testing good too. Just about ready to come off the rotisserie and install the top plastic and metal trim.

Some random insert pics:

Off the rotisserie and other than some double checking, this one is done.

Your install kit makes life easy. And as much as your playfields are the preferred, the install kit works on any playfield that has clear. Even a new one.

Yes I wonder what template they choose depending on the light board? Obviously if we send to you we tell you.
