I was working on a friend's game for him, and lately have had to replace a bulb on 1 of the pop bumpers after only having been in the game for a short time. Can anyone explain how 1 of the pop bumper lamps can be perhaps maybe be getting higher voltage or something else that would drastically shorten lamp life?

Dumb question, but did you test the voltage with a meter to see what it is?

You should be getting 7VAC +/- a bit.

The game is at a friends house, going back soon (with meter) and will check.

Bally lamp sockets are crap. Even if you have proper voltage under the PF at the leads, you won't at the socket points. Clean all 3, stick a warm white LED in each and problem solved.

Incandescent bulbs? Typical behavior in pop bumpers. Have a Centaur that would eat incandescent bulbs for lunch. Put a brand new one in, 5 minutes of play the lamp would get bright due to the filament being damaged from vibration. Then 5 minutes later it wouldn't work. I Put LEDs in and never looked back.

Nothing to do with higher voltage. Just cheap bulbs and vibration ruining the filament causing the bulb to get brighter and hotter.
