Ok, I've only been on pinside for less than a year, but I've been absorbing material as fast as I can read. I love learning and really enjoy tinkering and fixing once I've acquired the skills (which can admittedly come slow sometimes). Unfortunately, to date, I've only been learning and tinkering/fixing DMD era machines. I now have a chance to acquire an EM that I know almost nothing about other than it "appears" to be in decent shape on the surface. It's a Gottlieb Picnic 2 player EM from 1958. I was looking for an Addams Family and stumbled across this in a lady's basement. Wasn't interested in the AF for various reasons, but the EM caught my eye. In fact, I was drawn to it so much that it felt like some sort of spell.

First... it's not working as of now, but that's all I know. It's still in her basement, but the offer to purchase it for not much more than a night out of dinner was met with positivity, so I wouldn't be out anything (other than time) if it turned into a turd. I only saw the outside that day, but she later found the key and sent me limited pics (through the coin door only) to show me that it still did have some insides and not a large rodent's nest. Backglass is toast, but already confirmed on the BGrestore site that they have a reproduction I could easily get (after/IF I get it working of course). Playfield looks to be decent and cabinet also. But feel all comments are welcome.

I hate recreating threads that have been run through multiple times, and I will certainly search for a basic EM education in the vast number of threads already on here... but any advice/warnings/education that anyone here can offer would be great. And if any of you are anywhere near close to central MN, I can guarantee plenty of pizza, beer, and/or other bribes if you were willing to give some in person education. Or perhaps tell me to turn the other way and find a working machine for my first EM if that's a better route.

Quoted from AlexF:

Looks like fun. Congrats. I'd start by reading the EM repair sections on pinrepair.com

Thanks. I want to close the deal soon and get this to my garage, so just hearing someone else say it looks like fun helps me know I'm not too crazy. Or at least I have other crazy friends helping me in this journey. I'm on pinrepair.com at this very moment.
