To me, I can not think of a more iconic or influential musician from that era of music. The music world lost one of the all time greats. I seriously doubt that someone will be able to come along now and revolutionize a particular instrument like he did.
I always wanted to play guitar but I was never all that good at it. I did however learn how to play "Aint Talkin bout love," and I was so proud of myself to be able to play an EVH song from beginning to end. I know that it was one of his easier songs to play, but to me it was a big deal just because of who he was. There were other songs that I wanted to learn of his that I just couldn't. I whined to my guitar teacher that "It sounds so easy, so I should be able to play it." He replied, "It is easy. To Eddie. Because he is that good."
It still has not really hit me yet. I remember buying their debut album on cassette, and I still think it is one of the best debut albums by any artist since I have been listening to music. Some music I have outgrown, and I can't stand to listen to it anymore. Some music sounds so dated to me, Van Halen though is timeless to me. Eddie definitely left his mark on this planet. I am glad that he was around for as long as he was. Thanks for the music.
