Hmmm, the cure for covid?

and now Eddie Van Halen. Really sad how many artists from the early MTV days have passed away recently.
1894, ha 1984 was the first record I ever bought. The album had been out a month or so, and a kid in my sixth grade class knew I loved VH, and offered to sell me his cassette copy.
I saved my lunch money for two days, then handed over $3.50 to Mike, and I had my first VH.
I listened to it every night two or three times, until I fell asleep, for a year.
A month or so later Mike offhandedly told me, oh yeah, I stole it from my older brother.
Now his brother was a wanna be 50's greaser who was scary as hell. Two years ahead of our class. So every time I saw him that year, and later in high school, I walked the other way. Thankfully by sophomore year I was 6' 2" and he was still just a skinny waistoid.
Still got the cassette.
Long live VAN HALEN, the soundtract of my, and so many others live's.

Damn how old is this guy !!!

So sad. My 1st concert was Van Halen leading off for Ozzy on their 1st tour at the Spectrum in Philly. It was general admission and I remember fans chanting "1, 2, 3, 4 OPEN UP THE Fucking DOOR!". The mob pushed so hard a window broke and cops rushed in on horses. Being from the suburbs and just 18, I was scared to death. Great concert though.
Quoted from CrazyLevi:Damn how old is this guy !!!
Ha! I saw that, but we know. It explains how Eddie was so good. He played guitar for over 200 years
I remember buying the first album when it came out. Then I drew the logo on the back of my jean jacket. Saw them live on the Women and Children First tour in 1980 and it was amazing. Saw them in Buffalo NY in 2013 but that was a horrible concert.
RIP EVH. You will be missed.
Smoking and drinking is bad. Lucky Keith Richards just quit.
Very sad news. EVH is a legend.
VH would be an epic pin. 1984 on side of cabinet. Fair Warning album anywhere would be great along with the classic stripes. I would just not it be over done with the stripes. Jack Daniels bass somewhere as a toy.
No Van Hagar, only DLH. 1984 would be the final wizard mode as that is when thy peaked - in my opinion of course.
RIP Eddie. I was fortunate to see them a few years ago at the Hollywood bowl. Great show Eddie and Van Halen will be missed!! 2020 sucks!!!!!

OU812?
I think I played my drums for six hours straight to learn Hot for Teacher when I was 14 or 15.
Then I tried it on the guitar, until I realized he was hammering from the 3rd to the 12th fret with just his left hand.

Hot for Teacher on drums is no easy feat. I would be done just on the double bass intro.
It still amazes me that Eddie was a drummer and Alex was playing guitar. They got into an argument so Eddie took to guitar and Alex drums.

Amongst best debut albums of all time!
I built a "hockey stick" Kramer in his honor, wish I still had it. He did some of his best playing on a Kramer.
Was he still married to Valerie Bertanelli? We thought she was so hot and he was so lucky.
Eddie kind of idolized Dime Bag Darrell, guess it was mutual. I feel like that guitar will be retrieved one day.
Took the long way home from work today just jamming to Eddie in my car. Pulled into my driveway mid way thru Fair Warning and just couldn’t turn it off. Neighbors be damned but they got to enjoy side 2 of that master work as I just sat there until the album finished. It was the best 20 minutes of 2020. Thanks Ed.
Quoted from tomdrum:Saw Van Halen 4 times, I remember 2 of them......
You were there for only 2 then. The ones you can’t remember of course
Yeah this really sucks. People always talked about his tone and finger tapping etc....but for me his rhythm playing was out of this world. He and Townshend are tops for me, so unique.
Quoted from Edster:It still amazes me that Eddie was a drummer and Alex was playing guitar. They got into an argument so Eddie took to guitar and Alex drums.
Same thing with Dime and Vinnie. Now only Alex is left
also can we get a van halen pinball already? I had to help make one with the help from Hugh Spahr openpinballproj
Some of the funniest stories I have ever heard were told about Eddie by Thomas Dolby. I worked for Dolby for a few years during the dot-com boom times and he would hold monthly poker nights for a bunch of the guys. RIP E.V.H.
Their debut album changed my life and was never equalled by them or anyone else, IMHO. However, Unchained remains my favorite song by them.
One break, comin' up!
Quoted from gonzo73:Day on the green festival, Oakland Coliseum 1978, Blowing everyone else off stage, everyone in the crowd says, Who the hell are these guys!
[quoted image]
I was at that show! Somewhere up top. Also saw them in Dallas 1986 or 87. And the last time at Red Rocks in 2015.
RIP
