The P-ROC was the original board developed by multimorphic as a replacement for the WPC and early modern stern MPUs. It uses switch matrixes and it interfaces directly with the dmd controller and driver boards and itself is controlled/directed by a computer.

The P3-ROC is indeed used in the P3. It is also a replacement for the P-ROC and far more flexible. It does remove the ability to interface directly with a DMD, so if you needed that ability, the P-ROC is what you need.

It interfaces with boards called SW-16 and PD-16 as well as PD-LED. The SW-16 allows for connection of up to 16 switches (not matrixed), split into two banks. The PD-16 allows connection of up to 16 drivers split across two discrete banks. You can have eight devices at 5V and 8 at 50V for example, or all 16 at 50V. The PD-LED interfaces with both parallel and serial LEDs, servos, and can support a large number of single color or smaller number of rgb LEDs.

Each of these boards can be chained together to support insane numbers of switches, coils, and LEDs.

The P3-ROC is also controlled by a separate computer.

There are many more production and homebrew games that use the P3-ROC vs. the P-ROC because of the expanded capability and extensibility. It's also smaller, so you can mount it where convenient, as well as the addon boards, so you reduce wiring.

The P3 and its modules use the P3-ROC (that's what it was developed for), and when I build a module, I just purchase the number of sw-16, pd-16 and PD-LED boards needed to control the functions on the module. It's really slick because of the in-built extensibility.

I've built traditional homebrew games, and started doing so right as the P3-ROC came out. I've also built P3 modules and am quite comfortable with wiring and so forth for that board set.

Episode 165 - Everything is Weird
    https://soundcloud.com/user-465086826/episode-165

Note: Several recording difficulties this episode. We attempted to balance the audio ahead of time but in actual recording it seems we still haven't optimized the mics to capture just the people closest to them so there is some reverb, particularly on Dennis. Also Windows decided it just had to update and given Easter activities we could not wait longer and had to record while the install was running. Several audio sections failed to record and so edits around some discussions had to happen. Apologies upfront for the quality issues!

Pinball: We talk some about Fathom Revisited and 2022 game releases, have an extended discussion about P3 versus traditional pinball, and FINALLY catch up on Rumor Corner.

Video Games: We prove updates on Wargaming, Lego and Epic partnering, Elden Ring having a new super-fast speedrun, Hello Games planning an ambitious new game, and a slew of Activision updates.

    Quoted from DennisK:

Pinball: Coverage includes Dutch Pinball's consistent output of The Big Lebowski,

The real story is if the original buyers will ever get the games they’re owed. They’ve barely reached 80 for original buyers, and there were likely close to 300. People who paid in 2015 don’t have games. It’s despicable that they keep selling to new buyers without making original buyers whole.

DennisK Episode 175 does not appear on itunes right now?

    #319 1 year ago
    Quoted from Hypercoaster:

DennisK Episode 175 does not appear on itunes right now?

My apologies, I have a support ticket in to Apple as the show appears in the RSS feed so I do not know why it is not appearing there. Forced refresh seems to fail so I need them to look at it. Normally iTunes is automatic so I do not have many control options. Hoping to hear back by tomorrow.

    #320 1 year ago

I *think* iTunes has it listed now. Support indicated they manually forced a refresh on their end. I don't see it in the storefront yet but I do see it listed in the podcast connect tool they provide to podcasters for submissions.

    Nope.

Latest episode coming up for me is 174.

    #322 1 year ago

Okay, thanks for the update. Their responder said it could be 24 hrs for it to push fully public. I will check back tomorrow on the storefront now that I see it on the backend.

    #323 1 year ago

I had an issue that I didn’t see the episode when released on the apple podcast app. I just clicked the link on your Facebook page and listened from there

    #324 1 year ago

The problem is Apple specific. Pulls direct from the RSS work, SoundCloud is up, etc. It does not seem to be something I can fix on my end. Apple support indicated to follow up tomorrow if it is still down. Annoying but I am at a loss to identify why just their system will not refresh it.

    #325 1 year ago

SoundCloud (the host we use for the podcast) has announced there is a problem with the RSS feed impacting some of the podcasts and they are working with Apple to get things functional.

    #326 1 year ago

Thank you. Thought it was odd when I did not receive this week in my podcatcher. Especially after your other podcast Bond reveal show. Lol. I appreciate the status report.

    #327 1 year ago

Okay, I *think* they've got our show back updated with iTunes now. Apologies for the delay. Not sure if it's just refreshed or permanently fixed. I guess we'll find out in a few days when we release the next show.

    https://soundcloud.com/user-465086826/episode-176

Tony temporarily revives the tabletop segment in the introduction to talk about a "new" TSR.

Pinball: We discuss Stern Pinball's delayed reveal of James Bond, Homepin's reveal of Spinal Tap, a bit about American Pinball, and of course Rumor Corner.

Video Games: This segment covers Overwatch 2, the Sims 4, and a bunch of information out of Nintendo Direct.

    Another great episode gentlemen.

I do wonder about the Bond delays though-while I agree that the license-holder could be all or partly to blame for the delay, I don't see how it could have anything to do with the photos leaking.

The licensor all ready approved the art package and licensed the product, why would they care that photos of the game were shown on Sep. 12th instead of Sep. 13th? I don't see what difference it would make to them. I mean theoretically, Stern picked the date of release anyway. I could see leaked photos causing issues if the product wasn't fully licensed yet, or if they were pre-production art photos that hadn't yet been approved. But I just can't see why the Bond license holder would care about a few photos coming out a day early. Seems like small-potatoes stuff, and I can't find any angle why it would matter to the license holder.

    I'm unsure. Two main options:

    1) We're wrong, it isn't an issue.
    2) The license holder is purportedly EXTREMELY sensitive. Whatever that means. So, if anything deviates at all, coupled with the Queen and issues around that, perhaps a straw that broke?

Tony and I have, after over six years, decided to launch an optional Patreon for the podcast. For those interested in providing general support for the content. The show will remain publicly available as before. We've started with three tier options (as low as $1/month if I set it up right). Anyway, just wanted to get that announced here.

I never have. Between EGP and TPS, you're providing me with hours of entertainment during my sometimes boring walks.

EGP has turned me on to alot of video game stuff I never knew about. Hoping for an update on the whole Intelivision debacle.

Have you considered doing a bonus show once in awhile to entice more patrons?

Tony and I will need to discuss that. We'd only loosely discussed Patreon and not really *how* to do it, and so while I set it up this week we've not gotten together to really review what the platform allows and doesn't allow.

But a bonus show is an idea. Or maybe a... video show? We did one once, years ago. Or maybe something tabletop specific (a formerly recurring segment).

Go easy on the video show idea. Zach will immediately want to know why you're cool with doing a video show with Tony and not him.

But yeah.....More people will subscribe if they get a bonus show now and then. I know you're both busy but throwing a bonus show out there will boost your numbers. People like to pay for exclusivity.

Good point, we don't want Zach to be disappointed.

Making a bonus show could work. But wouldn't it be easier to just move, say, Rumor Corner behind the wall?

Hey Dennis....Are you sure the Patreon is set up correctly?

Since it's the first of the month, I got charged for other shows I subscribe to but not EGP.

Ours is configured to bill a month after your last charge.

EDIT: Yeah, Patreon has a few billing options. We use what is called subscription billing. People will just pay every month from their start date (so if someone joins on the 10th their bill is always on the 10th, if the 15th then on the 15th, etc.). It was the recommended method if not needing to control a limit on monthly benefits. But it is working as intended.

I wanted to thank you guys for the great content so I’ve signed up via patreon. $5 is clearly worth it a month.

Dennis - thank you for keeping The Pinball Show (TPN) tolerable and avoiding it from being a distributor podcast to sell pinball machines. I’m happy to financially contribute to your own show/ EGP which continues to call it like it is and Tony does a great job complementing the pinball content with video game news which I’m also interested in. Tony also keeps it very real which I appreciate.

Pinside - if you appreciate a podcast that isn’t in the bag with these companies or constantly reminding you to buy a pinball machine and where to buy it from, support these guys if you can.

That is very kind of you, Tony and I appreciate the support. I'll plan to thank new Patreons at the start of each episode (first name/handle only to not make anyone uncomfortable). We're still discussing (and polling patrons) on things to do that they might want while we keep the podcast available as usual.

Separate from all that, I know Tony is looking at putting together some YouTube gameplay videos on the video game side. He's still looking into format ideas (he's not leaning to livestream; he plays some very long-structured games and thinks edited content would be more enjoyable).

    https://soundcloud.com/user-465086826/episode-181

Pinball: We talk about Stern Pinball shipping Bond Pro models and soon ending their Home edition runs of Jurassic Park and Star Wars. We discuss CGC's CCrLE finally shipping. We spend a brief about of time on the TWIPYs,and then we talk about the new third-party game Drained for the P3. We spend a lot of time answering a listener email on whether we'd pick the Pro or the Premium model of various in-production Stern games. We conclude with Rumor Corner.

Video Games: This segment covers some insider trading arrests tied to Square Enix, Blizzard partially reversing course on their SMS verification rules, Pokémon fallout, and impressive sales for
    God of War Ragnarök.

Note: The virtual mixing board lost connection to Tony's microphone during the TWIPY discussion and so he will be quiet during that part (as you can only hear what Dennis's mic picked up from him).
