Tabletop games- are we talking pen & paper RPGs, board (or other fixed set) games, collectible card games, tabletop battlegames, all of the above, or something else entirely?

    #4 8 years ago

I've got a dark tower board game that i loved to play as a kid but the lcd display on the tower is "off". Do you guys talk about how/where to get theae fixed?

    Quoted from Law:

All of the above. Our focus has been on newer games being created in this category, most of which have been card-based, but all are eligible.

    Quoted from vicjw66:

No, we've never covered repairs in any of the categories, and repair is an unlikely topic for us.

    Episode #6 is now available:
    https://eclecticgamerspodcast.wordpress.com/2016/04/10/episode-6-nick-dangerous-interview-ffxv-tabletop-miniatures/

The pinball segment (starts at about 3:55 in) features an interview with Nick Dangerous of the Dallas Makerspace VECTOR Committee. We talk about his EM prototype Freedom (runner-up machine for Best Restoration at TPF 2016), the VECTOR Committee, and what Nick's future plans are regarding pinball in the area.

We're always looking for good pinball topics, so feel free to contact us with suggestions on what you'd like to hear. Facebook tends to work best:

Enjoyed the interview, Dennis! I learned two things:

    1) I need a better microphone than the built-in one in my 2008 Dell laptop.

    2) I need to break up my sentences and let you speak once in awhile.

    Quoted from NicoVolta:

    2) I need to break up my sentences and let you speak once in awhile.

    1) I forgot all about laptop mics until we started recording. They are all pretty rough (they capture so much background sound) compared to headsets. I'm a fan of the Logitech H390 after using it for webinars (under $30 and it works well). I use a desktop condenser at this point, but still use the headset for listening (to prevent my speakers from broadcasting into the mic). Podcasting has been a crash-course on all the challenges that exist in managing sound, that's for sure!

    2) I talk enough already!

Thanks again for participating in the episode!

    Episode #7 is now available:
    https://eclecticgamerspodcast.wordpress.com/2016/04/24/episode-7-slings-foxes-neos-and-cards/

The pinball segment covers both the Ghostbusters Premium/LE magnaslings and The Big Lebowski now shipping (with a focus on talking about the air shipping option). The pinball segment starts at about 11:30.

We do also tackle the Pinball FX2 Alien DLC, but that is in the video game section (the DLC portion starts at about 36:50).

    Episode #8 is now available:
    https://eclecticgamerspodcast.wordpress.com/2016/05/07/episode-8-80s-pinball-homebrew-codbattlefield-rpgs-galore/

The pinball segment has a discussion on homebrew rethemes we would do if we had any talent. Prior to that, we also announce the launch of our 1980s Pinball Machine Mania Tournament, where we pit the manufacturers' games against each other in a March Madness-style contest to determine the best pinball machine of 1980-1989.

Link to Round 1's voting can be found here: http://goo.gl/forms/GXA9Xj5mmM

Pinball segment starts at 10:00. We do also discuss the Dead Flip Twitch stream of Ghostbusters LE, but forgot to hit it during the pinball segment, so that's at the end (you can jump to 75:00 for that part).

Oh, here is a visual version of the 1980s Pinball Machine Mania bracket. Probably requires zooming to be at all legible, but such is the price of quantity.

    Episode #9 is now available:
    https://eclecticgamerspodcast.wordpress.com/2016/05/22/episode-9-2-hosts-2-interviews/

The pinball section starts with our 1980s Pinball Machine Mania Tournament. We go over the results of Round 1 (an image of the bracket will be attached to this post)and the match-ups for Round 2. You can vote in Round 2 at this link (no registration required; takes about 1 minute): http://goo.gl/forms/fZGaUg51J7AGxEhA3

Episode 10 is now available: https://eclecticgamerspodcast.wordpress.com/2016/06/05/episode-10-charities-circuits-strikes-fables-stars-and-planet-busters/

Discussion of the 1980s Pinball Machine Mania Tournament leads off the pinball section. Round 3 voting is now live at: http://goo.gl/forms/bxr7E3OSYvrzCG7H3

We also have two pinball-related interviews. The first is with Project Pinball Charity (with both Amber Streath and Daniel Spolar). We talk about the charity's work, their upcoming July fundraising campaign, and various ways people can participate with the charity.

Our second pinball interview is with Keri Wing. Keri was the winner of the Cactus Jack's Silverball Showdown tournament, a PAPA circuit event. This makes Keri the first woman in PAPA history to win a circuit event. So, we have a chat about what it was like at the tournament, some of the games she played, strategy thoughts, and how to work a classical saxophone theme into pinball.

The rest of the show deals with our other, non-pinball gaming topics. For quick reference, here are the key timestamps:

    Pinball section starts at 16:15.
Project Pinball Charity interview starts at 26:50.
Keri Wing interview starts at 55:30.

Episode #11 is now available: https://eclecticgamerspodcast.wordpress.com/2016/06/19/episode-11-e3-2016/

Due to the major video gaming conference E3 being last week, almost the entire episode is focused on video games. However, results of Round 3 of the 1980s Pinball Machine Mania Tournament are covered at the beginning of the podcast, and match-ups for Round 4 announced. In terms of pinball content, the Round 4 results (spoiler alert, Elvira and the Party Monsters, the top-rated 1980s pinball machine on Pinside at the time the brackets were created, has already been eliminated from the competition!) of the 1980s Pinball Machine Mania Tournament are reviewed, and the final four match-ups for Round 5 are announced. You can vote in Round 5 here: http://goo.gl/forms/pisXnuA2BdxYsgkC2

In addition, Tony and Dennis discuss Spooky's Domino's Pizza pinball machine from what they've been able to see of demoed gameplay and the art/layout.

Episode #14 is now available: https://eclecticgamerspodcast.wordpress.com/2016/07/31/episode-14-80s-pinball-nintendo-and-kantcon-2016/

The pinball segment reveals the final result of the long-running 1980s Pinball Machine Mania Tournament. The hosts give their thoughts on the winning title. In addition, they respond to a two-part question (what pin currently in the Pinside Top 50 would they most like to own, and which one do they think is the most overrated).

    #21 7 years ago

Since Episode 14 has been public over 24 hours now, I figured I'd drop the final bracket to show the full results of the 1980s Pinball Machine Mania Tournament. Pinbot was the ultimate winner.

Episode #15 is now available: https://eclecticgamerspodcast.wordpress.com/2016/08/14/episode-15-don-discusses-divergent-distractions/

Don (co-host of The Pinball Podcast) joins the EGP crew as a guest host this episode. Pinball segment includes Pabst and Slayer rumors in terms of news (or news"ish") topics. General pinball discussion includes music pin ideas, wanted/overrated Pinside Top 50, and games considered "bad" that each host would most want to own.

As usual, tons of content on video games and tabletop, but I won't highlight those here.

    #23 7 years ago

SoundCloud is now the host for EGP audio: https://soundcloud.com/user-465086826

Our original audio host was discontinuing their service, so I had the joy of migrating everything over to SoundCloud today. On the plus side, it is yet another way to access the audio. Contact me if there are any issues, thanks!

    Soundcloud link: https://soundcloud.com/user-465086826/episode-16

Jack Danger (Deadflip; TILT THRU) joins as guest host. The pinball segment focuses on best/worst tournament formats, the Cactus Canyon remake, and WatchMojo's Top 10 Pinball Machines list.

    #25 7 years ago

Is the Cactus Canyon remake official? You discuss it in this episode like it is but I can't find any other info about it.

    #26 7 years ago

We went off an announcement from the Pinheadz Pinball podcast's Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/pinheadzpinball/ post dated August 25th) which was derived from this post: https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/next-remake-has-to-be-cactus-canyon#post-3307270

So, I don't know about it being official (we did not see a press release or a formal announcement, and as the cited post indicates it might not actually be the very next one), but anyway, that's the basis for the discussion and the sourcing we used.

Episode #17 is now available: https://eclecticgamerspodcast.wordpress.com/2016/09/11/episode-17-dennis-coup-detat/

Tony took this episode off. Pinball discussion is twofold: a very brief segment on the Stern clearcoat ("ghosting") issue, and then Batman 66. Most of the episode is video games this time.

    #28 7 years ago

Here's a link to the EGP T-shirt contest mentioned in episode #17: https://goo.gl/forms/ikFV9qLBYzXVck7F2

U.S. residents only. Just leave a rating/review at iTunes (link to it is at the above address) and fill out the form. We're drawing for a Large shirt and an Extra Large. Given the logo design incorporates pinball, I figured I should get it announced here. Color is similar but not exact to the image (it's a blue shirt with white art).

We'll draw in just over a week. Thanks!

Episode #18 is now available: https://eclecticgamerspodcast.wordpress.com/2016/09/25/episode-18-american-pinball/

The pinball segment features the latest about what we know (or think we know) about American Pinball. We also talk about the Batman 66 pricing and SLE application (that info hit just after our last episode aired), and a bit about Spooky's game #3 as well.

    #30 7 years ago

Oh, for those wondering, the American Pinball segment starts 7:30 in (and ends at 36:00), not that it has any major revelations that haven't been discussed on this site (but it seems to be what most people want to hear about, so I'm adding these specifics to help save time). I'd like to think the whole show is good (though I be biased!). The entire pinball section ends at about 1:25:00, incidentally.

    #31 7 years ago

AP at this stage is reminiscent of a B-movie (D-movie?) version of "Exit Through The Gift Shop". I vote bogus. But regardless of the truth EGP is always a win... keep 'em rolling!

    #32 7 years ago

Yeah, it was a challenge to even work them in (we sort of draft the show ahead of time and that was obviously a last-minute addition given when all this information started to drop). Had to eliminate a "fun" pinball topic we'd had planned because it took 30 minutes just to hit all the AP speculation we had and with the other news and items we were worried about going over two hours. Oh well, first world podcasting problems.

Pinball topics are the set-up for our final round in the 2017 Modern Widebody Tournament (final voting happening here: https://goo.gl/forms/laVwA51PnaGbu8L03). Then it is on to Alien gameplay and finally my regression analysis of Pinside ratings (thread created here a few days ago on that, thanks again to robin for allowing me access to the data).

In the intro I do talk about a pinball project I completed as a gift, so if you want to hear a bit about Space Gambler feel free to listen to that as well (show notes do have a link to a gameplay video I took of it before I let it leave).

Next episode will be roughly one day late because Tony and I will be at TPF and we head back during our normal record day. Feel free to say "hi" if you see us at the show!

    #46 7 years ago

Oh, both Tony and I will be at TPF this year. We got some magnets made up for the show, and if you want one just ask us when you see us around (we have shirts with the same image and we'll be sure to wear them on one of the show days so we're relatively easy to identify). Feel free to say "hi", give us criticisms, etc. We just do this for fun, and are looking forward to heading back to Texas for a gaming good time!

Most of the episode is our trip report on the 2017 Texas Pinball Festival. At the start we do announce the conclusion of the 2017 Modern Widebody Tournament.

Nice to meet all of you at Texas that came up and talked with us. It was a lot of fun!

    #50 7 years ago

DennisK Thanks for the show, great trip report!

One minor complaint: No mention of the P3? Did you guys play it? I was looking forward to hearing your thoughts on some of the new games for the system especially the first Internet-connected head-to-head game. Hope that this was just an oversight and you will fill us in on the next episode.
