Hi guys. I've been telling myself I was going to get this on (first) rgp and (later) pinside since I finished this, but I am sad to say these are really the first good pics I've taken of it since its completion 4 years ago. This was only my second pin after Star Wars, and my dad and I roadtripped to get it. I selected it partially because he'd always talked about it being one of his all time favorites. We had a great trip, the first of several pin-getting day trips.

The pin itself had a good cabinet, a perfect backglass, solid boards, but the reason it was still available... the playfield was very worn. How worn? Well, let's just say I still keep it under my stairway as a conversation piece

We played this for a long while as-is. I mean, why not? It was fun, and it's not like I was going to wear it out...

After a few weeks of searching, I finally found a suitable playfield for a swap. I had never done anything even close to a playfield swap before, and honestly I was kind of out of my league. But I got through it with the help of RGP and local friends. Here are pics from that swap.

You can see in the pics prior to 500 that there were some scratches on the playfield when I bought it, but 3m Finesse 2 made very quick work of those, and in pics 500-502 you see the reflection of the light fixture above.

Fast forwarding to today. Here are pics as I'm moving this into my family room to get it ready for possibly selling it.

Sorry the pics are big, and sorry some folks don't care for dropbox. I put in one pic for those who prefer uploaded pics.

More to come when I get the head on and get it up and running tomorrow. Including backglass pics... My machine was the donor scan for the CPR glass a few years back

Hope you like...

Hi guys. I started back at it bright and early with my EBD. The MPU and Sound boards have both been professionally re-serviced by Chris Munson in TX, so those are no worries. I've always had a minor issue with a couple lamps exhibiting odd behavior, though, so before putting the head back on, time to fix that.

Crazy, I've had this game all these years never noticed a twist connector like the type you use to wire a house outlet. Turns out the ground pins on the lamp board had burned up and they soldered the grounds to the backs of pins. Yikes!

I removed and replaced this entire header. I'm actually glad I waited all these years. My soldering 4 years ago wasn't so good. now, practice makes... maybe not perfect, but pretty good.

When I was working this board I also noticed two ground pins on the replaced chip were cold soldered. Funny, you can tell when they removed that chip they used a dremel and lost control....

Anyway, got it back together and ... success!

Thanks guys. The more I thought about it, the more I decided to go ahead and keep it. Just too fun to live without

I do have a board set coming from jim at mypinballs and very seriously considering doing a rules re-write (but you didn't hear it here)

Why mess with perfection? Well, I guess for fun. I'll be able to easily put the boards back in and go back to stock without any harm done.

I few ideas I have for rules changes...

A skillshot where the ABCD cycle on a timer and you have to get the one that's lit.
A two ball multiball where you get the second ball once you lock the first ball in the eject, perhaps you only get both balls active after you make DELUXE.

Other thoughts/suggestions?

Had another thought overnight. Allow the flippers to advance ABCD once the skillshot is done.

EBD is also able to knock down its own targets, so there is possibility there for a secondary (bonus) skillshot after you hit the initial skillshot. Knock down all the balls and allow the player a bonus shot if they hit the chaser DELUXE target for the secondary skillshot.

Good question. I would need to modify my trough. I did this on my Pinbot 2.0 project and now have a 4 ball trough. Not too tough to do, actually.

Technical part of trough conversion.

Quoted from Captive_Ball:

Very nice work Dan!
I think setting up a two ball similar to Taxi, where you must put a ball in a saucer and then within a given time frame hit another saucer..... to light a jackpot would be a challenging add. Or maybe dropping the eight ball drop target during the multi-ball...hitting a saucer above the roll overs to get the jackpot and the eight ball saucer being the super jackpot.

like these ideas a lot, thanks!
