The Eight Ball Deluxe has a strange issue, when I close the backpanel the lamps 1, 5, 9 etc go out. This must be a cable or connector issue but these lamps are controlled from the main lamp driver board and not the auxiliary board on the backpanel.

Who can explain this?

Probably just the way the cabling flexes when the insert board is closed. Leave the insert board open, and GENTLY flex the wires coming out of the connectors on the LDB. You will likely see the same symptoms as closing the insert board. This is the game telling you the connectors and headers need to be replaced. 35 years is well past their expected life span.

Some Bally pins 1978 on had problems over he years (worked on 300+). My fix is to remove the electrical tape to free up the wires, & sometimes remove the plastic wire holder near the light panel board.

You are correct, I replaced the connectors and now it is working fine!
