Documenting this really nice EBD 84 using a CPR playfield. It will be getting full torn down and rebuilt after cleaning. It already has new plastics and a lot of new parts that we will reuse. The plan is to replace any of the old coils with new as many are already new. Any mechs and flippers will be rebuilt. We will use new Titan_Pinball rings in white and some cool white Yoppsicles dyopp21 to finish it off. The GI is CW and will be reusing from ryanwanger Comet.

Wanted to thank phillyfan64 for his huge help getting the parts order together for me and some details needed from when we did his. There's a hole we need to drill off of what CPR marks and some of the lighting sockets need to be the right height. He's been helping me get everything right.

Meanwhile, parts are being cleaned/tumbled...

Have you found a source for the pop bumper plastic base? Seems out of stock everywhere.

#11 2 years ago

Nope, I just tried everywhere today. I’m going to have to reuse these. Thankfully they’re decent.

#12 2 years ago

If you, or anyone else, comes across a source for those new please let me know. Thanks.

You’re welcome. We’ll make you a Bally convert before it’s over haha.

Oh my yes! These Yoppsicles are great and clean things up too. But not having all those new lamp holders is so much nicer.

Bottom side is about ready with lighting.

DOH! Missed a section of ground braid so here it is done. I’m sure there’s more I’ll have to follow back with.

phillyfan64 was a huge help again with the lighting, heights and part numbers.

Posts are about all in. This title, due to some errors in the holes (and with the rails stapled and not screwed), requires getting plastics in place or lined up.

The left rail needs the plastics in place so I can line it up and make holes to screw down.

and the one rear left plastic will need lined up to make the correct hole. More on that soon…

New Titan rings are now on.

Here’s the post hole that’s way off as is. I followed the path I did with like on phillyfan64 where we used a T nut that I had to flush up to the playfield so the mech would sit. Originally it’s a screw stud, but since we are making a hole anyway, and it can take a beating, a through post makes more sense.

They’re out of order because when I sort them on whatever POS IOS beta I’m on crashes it.

More top side corrections. I have the left side rails back on. Set the plastics on the studs and then line things up.

As you can see the ball guide sticks out. I moved it back to match the plastic and made a new hole. The old hole is hidden. More gooder.

I cursed a lot tonight. These bells and the stupid setup are a huge PITA. But the left side is done.

Earned this GM tonight.

Excellent Dave. You got it now. It’s all downhill from here.

Quoted from dmacy:

Umm, I think your new ball guide rail position will cause ball hop onto that upper left flipper. You want to align the rail so ball roll to the flipper is smooth.

She's looking nice!

You’re right. I tested with a flipper bat and no rubber! So back to adjusting the plastic with the original hole. This is one of the worst ones for anything lining up well I’ve done. They all need tweaks but damn.

It’s back and looks better now.

You might not get enough current draw on the LED you have installed in the solenoid expander socket to reliably switch the relay.

Thanks. I was wondering but just recycling what it came with.

Dave,

That shot I think is only one way so it would only be a rollback if it was a weak shot. However you nailed the alignment.

#31 2 years ago

Everything firing great on the LED's. I hope the Yopsicles don't cause a problem. I think you did the Globetrotters in Yops and all was good.

New bases for pop bumpers are really nice. Assembled them along with new wrappers, rebuild, and spoons.

Making some progress underneath. Many switches are lined up. They might as well left off the dimples as they’re in another galaxy. I’m lucky to find one hole line up on anything.

New tubing on switches so they don’t look so trashy.

It probably doesn’t look like it but there was 3 hours of soldering just the one side.

Saucer and single drop mechs installed.

They look 3D printed but nice resolution.

I’m finally back at it. Had a small window to get my Lightning wrapped up and ready for inspection and a test drive resulted in the rear calipers seized up after compressing for new pads/rotors. Anyway, new lines and calipers afforded my first real drive after nearly having it for two months.

Installed the four bank drop target. It’s switches received new clear tubing along with the right side switches.

Most of the right side is now soldered.

I still have the large target bank to rebuild, wait for a Nyloner I missed on one sling, install the left rear plastic, wrap up the flippers and adjust switches. I’m sure I’m missing a few things.

The large top side plastics are tricky. It can be a pain to get all those bell spacers lined up.

#47 2 years ago

Agreed! This is one of the biggest PITA areas. When there were still relatively new and out making money, did Bally sell these plastics as complete with the new bells and all I wonder. I can see a tech saying screw this trying to do it lol.

#48 2 years ago

I’ve used a little hot glue to hold everything together while trying to line them up. Even with that I still can’t get them perfect. It’s just the holes in the playfield don’t match the holes in the plastic perfectly. There’s always one or two that are slightly off.

#49 2 years ago

Soldering is finally done. Flippers are all done and adjusted. Drop target assembly is torn down and being cleaned.

Top left plastic is installed with limited cursing.

And thanks to phillyfan64 again as he confirmed two lamps wiring. Apparently there are some differences in the manual from the original to these later runs. Not surprisingly.
