I finished the restoration of my earthshaker recently and thought I’d share my journey.
It was all working but very tired. Cabinet was a little beat up and playfield needed some loving too.
Some start point pictures

I had a spare playfield that was in better condition than the one in it but was still in need of some attention. I restored this first.

Cabinet was next. A few small imperfections but very solid so not a lot of work needed.

My favourite part. Putting the playfield back together. Flippers rebuilt. Everything taken apart and cleaned. Messy wiring tidied up.

As an ES owner (prototype #4) I can completely appreciate your restoration. Nicely done and thanks for sharing.

Thanks guys. This was a very satisfying one to do as it’s one of my all time favourite pins.

Don't forget, I call dibs on that if it ever needs a new caretaker.

Dear lord that’s amazing. How did you do the art on the cabinet? Did you spray it or is that a decal?

Thank you. It is decals. Here’s a pic during the strip down.

Very nice work. I finished mine a few months back. There’s nothing like a glass smooth Earthshaker playfield. Which clear product did you go with?

So how did you get the edges/corners to match up on the front where they wouldn’t peel over time, etc.? Does that make sense? I see how you secured it of course under the side rails.. it the front has me baffled.

I think I know what you mean. I trim the decal just shy of the corner. This picture makes it stand out more than in person. You can see how wide the trim is compared to the side rail.

Awsome restoration, gonna drop mine off for restore, depending on time and price I mite do the cab and pay for playfield swap only but I noticed my cpr playfield has 568? Is 568 standerd number , I guess I'll see when I swap playfields, hopeing to get mine done by mid September, I hope it looks as good as yours does!!! Happy pinballing

Thanks. The 568 is the game number for earthshaker. Like banzai run is 566 and I think F-14 tomcat is 554 from memory.

Very nice!!! I love Earthshaker! Just redid mine a few months back. Removed the mylar on the pf, new ramps, new plastics and got the sinking building mod from basement arcades. Just waiting on my BGresto backglass and it'll be finished.

How did your back glass go GLSP3022?
Would love to see some finished pics.

I actually bought one from CPR as well. The BGresto looks pretty nice. But I went with the mirrored one from CPR even though it has several tiny pinholes.

I still have the BGresto one for sale if anyone is interested.

how come you paint the entire cabinet when the decals cover it all? (ie from factory only the back is painted?) i notice this on alot of restore threads.

I have want to restore the cabinet and put new decals on but am unsure weather the whole thing needs painting? only to be covered by decals.

looks great though are they original alphanumerics or replacement led?

I sealed, filled and under coated the entire cabinet to give a nice flat surface for the decals. The wood grain shows through the decals otherwise.
I only painted the areas that are visible after the decal application. In one of the pictures you can see on the side of the cab I only painted the edges.
Oh and russdx it’s the original display.

I see that makes sense thanks for clearing that up is it ok to just roller on the paint? or has to be sprayed?

#29 3 months ago

I spray. Not sure about rolling as I’ve never tried.
