Quoted from slochar:

No reason to hesitate the building will still work. Is there something in the prototype gameplay that got axed in the later production?
The lamp shows are different for sure but iirc the proto lamp show was pretty rudimentary.

Honestly not sure. I had only briefly played an ES once before at a show and it was before I understood rules and stuff. Also the one I played was in rough shape and I couldn’t hear it. This lead to a less than stellar experience.

Quoted from Andypc:

The Pop Bumper lights on my Earthshaker are not lighting up during the attract mode.

Unless your game has super early prototype ROMs, the pop bumper lights will not operate in attract mode. Seems like you simply stumbled on a game that has very early code.

If it bothers you that much, you’d have to track down someone who can burn you that particular rom revision, but it’s not really recommended, since the latest version of code would be the best option, since it would include bug fixes and other refinements.

I'd get one to support the making of them. Actually, maybe 2.

I'll take one! Mine is worn out on the end.

Just finished up a big restore on an Earthshaker. It’s sad the state of some of the repro parts. My machine turned out nice. The silver CPR playfield had splatter in the upper blue lanes, you could see the plywood grain lines running in the playfield. When I talked to them they only suggested getting it cleared. I did it myself, reshooting the upper lanes and re-clear. Now to the plastics, the red it terribly off from original. It’s like they weren’t even trying. The ramps from Starship Fantasy are fantastic. Obviously thicker but no issues. Now to the trash back glass. Just awful, you can see lines going across because they direct print now. And what they call mirror is not mirror, it’s silver ink and you get the reflection from the glass. My original glass is true mirror and it’s a huge difference. While it’s great these companies make the art and parts, but it would be nice for the prices if they were even close to original. Here are some out of order pics and with the old back glass. It’s delaminating I’m running a Stern shaker and this one has the sinking institute

I am lucky as my CPR Earthshaker playfield is really nice, but I have to agree CPR plastics for Earthshaker are really not good with poor colours and they chip/flake really badly. Has anyone been able to order a better quality full plastic set from anywhere?

#1608 1 year ago

They are the only ones making plastics, so wherever you order them they come from CPR

#1609 1 year ago

Making progress on the refresh, all GI has been replaced with LED! Controlled lamps are next. Rubber has been getting replaced as I get to the area and is almost complete. Only rubber not finished is the mini posts that can be easily changed without removing plastics

The plastics are also really blurry compared to the originals. I emailed CPR asking if they were supposed to look like that or if it was a bad batch and was told I'm doing "CSI shit" by taking close-up photos. Not really impressed.

How challenging is the process of replacing cabinet decals on this game (or really any system 11 for that matter)? I’ve done radcals multiple times, but never decals.

#1612 1 year ago
Quoted from mbaumle:

Not that difficult... without Radcals you may want to spend more time smoothing out the cracks and holes in the cabinet, base coat of blue paint and install ... just a pain to remove the side rails, with mine I used velcro to reinstall just incase I ever have to remove them.
Paid $125.00 to have mine made here locally.

Mad props for taking on such a thrashed turd! Nice work!! Are you having any fitment issues with the lockbar? You have a WPC bar on it instead of the proper system 11 bar... they are quite different.

Further down the rabbit hole...
Guessing the previous owner didn't have much love for this game...
2 of 3 flipper bushings completely done.
Minor dirt on the bats
Topside tear down almost done..
The bottom side is next to be removed.

Looks like 5 ES owners are in need of the actuator... After the morning rush at work will confirm the order and have them made ... all those who have PMd me to get one will reach out to you once completed.

#1616 1 year ago

Well crap, I was under the impression I was going to be able to finish this tomorrow when the ramps came in. Unfortunately, I discovered when putting in the lamps that what I assumed was a blown bulb in the red pop bumper was actually a broken socket. Hopefully I find that I have one on hand and can avoid the shipping fee to get a new one

Make sure to check inside the flipper bats too. Usually when they’re that nasty they’re cracked inside.

Actuator... update!

Ordered 10 this morning to cover everyone's needs for this part!
The order should be ready on the 18th of October perhaps sooner .
Once completed will check to ensure it's Identical to the original part.
After that will pm all parties interested and wrap up this side project ....

I concur. I just spent over an hour fighting the spiral ramp to go back in place. Of course it was probably me being stubborn and not wanting to remove the states assembly that made it hard. The Starship fantasy ramps are AMAZING. I still have to do the side ramp, but this looks 10x better than what was there before

Cabinet decals? They’re available. I used them on the one I did for a customer:

Here are pics of a CPR back glass. The first is my original. CPR calls it mirrored, I say silver ink only. You can see the lines where it’s directly printed. At least they are reproduced, but for the price a bit disappointing.

Interesting that the ES backglass looks like that. I have a White Water and TZ CPR mirrored backglass, and I don't notice any lines from the printing process. Have you reached out to them to ask if this was considered normal?

Yes but is your mirroring actually a mirror or just silver? I reached out and sent pics. For the price I’d expect much better.

This one was about a 1-1/2 - 2 years ago. Maybe the new runs are different now?

#1638 1 year ago

Cpr went from silk screening to direct print. Not sure when that happened. I’ve had older back glasses from them and they were nice. This one looks like crap compared to the original.

CPR’s site description says mirrored. Their pics are just silver. I see the are not offering mirrored or non-mirrored anymore. Has anyone reached out to Kevin at CPR? If you look at the ES speaker skin page that is my sample game shown in the pic. Like I said, older run? Disappointing now for sure for all the others.

I did. He didn’t say anything about them changing processes. The short story of what he told me was that the original process is not feasible so they use mirrored ink for the mirror layer.

#1642 1 year ago

When I ordered mine last month the description clearly said mirrored. I had to wait for their move for delivery. Just checked it still says mirrored on the prototype style back glass which is what I ordered

Yep just like mine only silver ink. No mirror

#1645 1 year ago

Ya, really bummed. Looks nice otherwise, but going to return mine as it just looks cheap w/out proper mirroring. Perhaps some day I can find one from an older run w/ proper mirroring.

#1646 1 year ago

Just shine a light through it and you will see all the lines going across

#1647 1 year ago

I didn't need to check further than the mirroring. CPR was kind enough to accept it for a full refund, so I left it sealed in its clear plastic for shipment.

I hope going forward CPR can find the right balance between cost/time/quality for backglasses.

For additional reference, I checked my Earthshaker playfield which I had also left sealed, and that was nice overall. Only knock I had at first glance was the black insert text was a bit translucent in areas when shining a flashlight from behind. But I don't think that will be super noticeable from the player's position (but I would've expected better for "Gold" tier playfields). Certainly will be a marked improvement over my old playfield.
